  1. I got cold and tired so I didn't get all my pictures taken.. this is about half of them... I've been a little more quiet on here the last month or so.. because I'm building up inventory on the sold out ornaments from last year and adding these new ones.. I made 25 of each style on in stock and of these new ornaments.. I got a long ways to go.. before getting all the "NEW" ornaments stocked up and once I want to add to the site etc before the holiday shopping gets into full swing.. Anyway, Enjoy these few "new" ornaments I made last week.. Hope to have about 200 different styles of ornaments on the website in the next couple weeks.. Not sure I'll make it.. I think I've got about 165 right now..

    Optical illusions

Another Sam Custodio pattern (look him up on FB, he's got a lot of patterns). 1" whiteboard from Lowes, Pegas #3mg blade. Make sure you get the updated version of this one, the original had two islands, which are simple to fix once you know they're there (the middle/base of the "cones" at the top and bottom). Overall, a fun cut with lots of easy curves.

    The Rifleman Duo

The Rifleman (Dual Pose) Portrait Pattern I've had several requests for more Rifleman projects, so here is another one, a dual portrait of Lucas and Mark McCain from the TV show. This TV series was (and still is in syndication) a very popular western. It starred Chuck Connor and Johnny Crawford as the main characters. The show ran from September (remember when TV shows always started in September), 1958 to April 1963. I made this pattern with as few cuts as possible and most of it is two large areas. I cut mine from 1/4" birch ply and painted black a backing board of same wood and glued them together. I cut the words out from cherry wood, but you can leave it without the title if you like. Download the free pattern from my Free Page:http://baggetta.com/pebooks/puzzle_patterns.htm

    Drawing an ellipse

I made a "do Nothing machine" or trammel of Archimedes about a year ago for a project that needed an ellipse. There are several plans on the web. The narrow width is about 4". I made the groves with a router but there several ways to hold the sliding blocks in place. I hold it down with 2 sided tape and a rubber grommet to hold the pencil. If you decide to make one and you need a smaller ellipse, draw out the smallest one you can on card stock and then use a compass and then trace out a smaller dimension and cut out with a scissor and use as a template.

there is a technique for drawing an ellipse, using two nails and a piece of string. Look on Youtube for videos on how to do it.

  13. Yeah I figured nobody wanted to see my info.... Just a hobby for most of you including me.. but I'm going to be paid for having fun.. Nothing wrong with either scenario.. I just never understood why people think if it's fun they shouldn't charge because it wasn't work it was just fun and playing around. I just hope that these folks that think this way didn't work their entire career doing crap they hated to make money so they could live.. because if it would have been fun they would've done it for free.. I'm looking to hire someone that will work for free because it's fun if you know of anyone Then again.. Nothing wrong with giving away stuff either. I do so all the time to family, friends or just some kids wanting something cool from the campgrounds etc.. just to make their day and see someone smile.. Just gave my niece this sign, dog portrait and the baby portrait for her friend who is expecting. so i'm not all and always about money because it is also fun.. These would have been nearly $250 had I charged her.. The sign was my second piece I've made with my CNC Router.. was going to post it here a few weeks ago but folks here don't like seeing the CNC router or laser stuff so I didn't.. So I do give a lot of stuff away too.. especially to friends or family.. The stipulation to them when they ask for something is.. you can pay X amount if you need it now.. or if you can wait until I have time to " just play around " then it's free or in some cases much cheaper.. This way I don't get overrun by everyone expecting me to "give " them whatever they want.. Most times they forget or change their plans.. During the slow season it's not usually and issue.. But when I'm busy it seems like everyone wants that last minute gift for someone and think I'm going to give it to them they have another thing coming then.. I make it that way for a understanding to them as to why I charge for one thing but give the next away, LOL

  14. I have been wanting a more portable saw to take to shows and demonstrations. Through a series of events a 16" Excalibur with the Pegas clamps already installed came to my attention. For $275 I had to buy it. The saw was manufactured in Taiwan and with the exception of some table coating wear is in pristine condition. For those that know me know that I am a loyal proponent of Hawk having my G4 26 since 2005. The Hawk has paid for almost all of my tools in the workshop. Modified an old Delta SS350 stand with a piece of 3/4 ply and some left over Formica. The Ex is bolted to the plywood and I have three fixed studs on the stand to hold the plywood using Wing nuts for easy disassembly and transport. 1, Clamps I never liked the EX clamps, I am heavy handed and the probability of stripping the threads and or spreading the clamp arms on the stock Ex clamps was a real concern. The Pegas clamp upgrade is a significant improvement. Putting the blade in and clamping it is a breeze no fiddling. I do like the removable clamps that the Hawk uses. I usually have several pre-loaded when working on a project. 2. Table Vs blade tilt. This is the reason for me wanting an EX type of saw as a second saw. The fact that the table stays level while the arm / blade angle changes, makes inlays and any bevel cutting, scroll saw bowls come to mind, much more controllable. No fighting the tendency to push your wood downhill. 3. Front -back blade movement. The Hawk has the ability to adjust this to almost perfectly vertical, crucial for my fine fretwork. This EX has been adjusted to almost zero front back motion. I am not sure if that was from the factory or the prior owner. 4. Vibration, All saws have some in different speed areas. My Hawk has these massive long arms going up and down so there is some minimal vibration. This EX sitting on the same concrete floor has none worth mentioning. 5. Reliability, Time will tell, hard to beat the Hawk in that area. 6. Blade tension. Simple up front cam and you can tweak it at the back if needed. 7. Guards. I removed the bottom guard as it was in the way of the bottom blade clamp. 8. Dust collection. It does have the membrane and a 2 inch hose connection for a shop vac. That is not going to work for me way too noisy. I will probably set something up like what I have on my Hawk connected to the Festool vac. (much quieter) The only con I see is that the Hawk has a huge amount of room under the arm just behind the blade. I put my finger there when cutting 3d Compound cut work. The EX does not have that much room so for compound cuts I will have to change how I work. Overall impression. I am very pleased with what I have experienced so far. I am kicking into my Christmas ornament season so that will really show me the saws capability. I will also be cutting for two straight days at our clubs woodworking show Nov 9-10. This may be a bit premature but If I were in the market for a new saw, and based on Hawks current delivery delays I would probably buy the Pegas 21 inch saw. Why Pegas over the other similarly designed saws. The clamps, full 45 deg both left and right, rack and pinion adjustment with pinned main angles, and silly me I love the color. These are my opinions,

  16. Everyone here has seen Steve Goods novel toilet paper holder. I made six for gag gifts for my family for Christmas. A friend of my wife's saw them and wanted to buy four. I told he they were so expensive that she could not afford them so you will just have to accept them as a gift. She insisted on a price which she never got. I've shown pictures of them and there is excellent response. They are different for sure. Now I am making four more to replace the ones I gave away. I also made two for my shop. Very handy. That makes 12 I'm making. Out of curiosity I am wondering what these could sell for at a craft fair or such. At 80 I have neither the energy or desire to get into sales. I am just curious.

    Drawing an ellipse

here ya go Ray, wrap your head around this one What is the equation for an ellipse? Use the standard form (x−h)2a2+(y−k)2b2=1 ( x − h ) 2 a 2 + ( y − k ) 2 b 2 = 1 . If the x-coordinates of the given vertices and foci are the same, then the major axis is parallel to the y-axis. Use the standard form (x−h)2b2+(y−k)2a2=1 ( x − h ) 2 b 2 + ( y − k ) 2 a 2 = 1 . ROFLMAO Seems easier to me to use the circle widget in inkscape, draw out an ellipse (default drawing) and on the tool bar set the width and height

  21. Kevin, I am very much flattered when someone is helped or uses any of my ideas. That is what these forums are about, I have learned a great deal from many of you. It would have been nice to have this access when I first started scrolling. For me to duplicate what I had on the Hawk for the Ex did not make sense to me and would not be cheap. I would be switching the vac back and forth anyway and moving the manifold literally takes a few seconds now. It takes me longer to plug the vacuum in. If there is a cheaper source I , I never found it. We have a raffle at each of our meetings and lucky for us we have member with a tool supply business. So he supplies the prizes and gets reimbursed, the left over money goes into the clubs kitty. A win for all. The club members also get a 10% discount from him. A mag switch was one of the choices at one meeting so I got it for $5, I liked it so much that I bought another for this project. They are very well made!

    Koala help needed.

Well I have cut my 'fussy' friends ruddy Koala, however the top layer of plywood seems to be a little 'yucky'. Not sure if it's the wood or perhaps I sanded it a tad too much. What would you suggest to make it look better ? I was thinking about a stain but I've heard that plywood doesn't take stains very well.

  28. It's been 2 years since I was last at this show and it's about a 1.5 hr drive to get there. It was well worth the trip. There are a lot of demos and vendors but especially some great scrollers. I had a chance to talk with several scrollers but especially enjoyed talking with Steve Good. What a great and open guy. A nice experience. Spent some money with Rich at richardscraftwood.com booth. Good pricing. Interesting guy. Emigrated from Rhodesia. Definitely a well organized and interesting show to visit.

    Drawing an ellipse

Got into ellipses here recently and if you have done these before you will know that there really are no tools to draw the things like there is a compass for circles. Sure, you can draw one of you have an engineering degree and two compasses, a slide rule and some other stuff but man its confusing. I am just relegating myself to using one of those green plastic things, taking a pic of it, emailing it to myself then fiddling with it, There really should just be a $20 tool for this.

  30. The $15 one only has one hole in it to fasten to a jig, not sure what you would do with the ring that is on it. I now have a couple of hours on the saw. Cutting Alex Fox Christmas tree that reduced to 50% from 10" to 5". A very delicate cut in a few places. A stack of 2 1/8 BB and am using a 2/0 Pegas 28 TPI blade. No reverse teeth, I ordered the wrong ones. I never broke a blade just dulled one. The saw has a bit of vibration. But over all I am very pleased.

    Drawing an ellipse

I cheat and use AutoCAD when I substitute at the local Vocational School and use the plotter to print it at 1:1 scale. The string method and the homemade device works great too. When I taught drafting precad we use the major and minor axis to draw them with a compass.

    Another first!

This is the first project that I decided what I wanted on it...designed the pattern from scratch and printed it out, cut and finished it. I used 1/2" Oak and finished with a couple of coats of Helmsman Spar Urethane. Now I need HELP!!! My wife put pictures on Facebook and by time we finished dinner 2 or 3 friends wanted her to get a price for me making signs! OMG...what do I do now?? I need help pricing these fast...please! From what they sent her already the signs will be similar to this one...a name or two, maybe a word and a name, etc. Randi, who lives in OR, wanted to see if I could also put a pine tree on hers. She said her mother, who is in her 90s, may want several to give as Christmas gifts! Or should I find out what each one wants first, then do a rough workup to make sure it will fly, then show them a workup and the price? I don't know as I didn't think it would come this quick! Thanks everyone!!

  48. Hello All Sorry if this is not the correct forum but I am too excited and wanted to share.....well she finally did something right after 23yrs of marriage!! And I am kidding as she gave me two beautiful daughters. She surprised me with a new Dewalt DW788 and LED Magnifying light for my birthday. I have been using my 20+yo Delta 16in and really had no issues and I had mentioned a year or so that this was my dream scrollsaw to have....raising two girls is expensive and I can't believe she was even listening to me I just finished setting it up and need to get used to it but any tips or tricks would be appreciated.....I am wondering why she bought me the LED Magnifying light? I guess she is telling me something HAHA Thank you all....hope you have been well! Ed

  50. I made this welcome sign for my mother recently. I made her a fall one and she hinted about needing one for spring. I found an image on the internet that I used to draw the bird and branch, then added the words below. I did put it on a backer, but couldn't find that photo. Mom loved it, and what could be better than that.
