new cutting and pattern removal
TripleJScroller and 10 others reacted to penquin for a topic
Got a new one done, pattern by Botas Helder cut on live edge wood with a pegas #3R flat. Really like this pattern and had to cut it just for fun. Item 2 is same pattern removed from the wood in one piece. I get it this way by using 3M spray 77 and when done cutting I brush mineral spirits on the wood and let it soak for a bit and in most cases the pattern comes away in one piece.11 points -

Didn't know where to post this. I did this Sue Mey designed dragon for SSWWC magazine. I did one with just the Dragon using Baltic birch ply and Alcohol dyes. They then asked If I could do one with a shield. I made that one with natural wood except for the Shield and backer which is 1/2 BB ply stained with Minwax Ebony. When the photographed it they had a sword (not mine). When I got it back I decided to make a sword. It is a combination of turning , carving, shaping and some painting. I am reasonably pleased with the end result for a "down and dirty " project. The blade was some scrap plywood from a crate painted with gold leaf.8 points

Cake Topper

I have a daughter getting married in January. They've been a couple for 16 years and have lived together for a decade. They have a mortgage, car payments, 2 cats and a dog. I guess that's "commitment" in the 21st century. Anyway I tried to make a pattern with Inkscape, without success, and found this on Pinterest . I snagged a copy and enlarged a lot. Replaced the date and gave it a go. It's not perfect, you can see it doesn't 'flow'. This was my first attempt at this type of project. The stock is 7/16" cherry finished with mineral oil. But all things considered I'm pretty happy with it. And over the moon about the wedding. Maybe I'll get to be a granddad yet - who knows??? Thanks for looking. Comments welcome.8 points -
Craft show
TripleJScroller and 4 others reacted to edward for a topic
Had a great day at the show yesterday, pulled in $377 which tops last year, sold a lot of $5 ornaments those small items really add up, now I have to go and buy more wood and replenish what I sold, looks like I will be putting in a lot of overtime, and still have a couple orders to fill. The traffic was very good and they did a good job on advertising, which the last show I did they didn't advertise, only put it in the school bulletin.5 points -
Welcome to the village.. I used to have a 162VS.. not too bad of a little saw.. I don't think it's a "too aggressive issue unless something is wrong with the saw.. Make sure you have your blade in so the teeth are pointing down.. I suspect maybe the blade is in wrong side up... Also a real dull blade may do this as well.. Maybe some more information as to what your trying to cut.. and what blade you're using could give us a better idea of what's going on..5 points

It's been a long time since I've posted any scroll work and even longer since I've made jigsaw puzzles. This is my amateur radio confirmation card (QSL). It is two-sided, attached to 1/8" BB ply, coated with 3 light coats of Rust-oleum Triple Thick Glaze. I did this just for fun and see what I can improve on. Photography is one thing I can improve on.3 points

Judy Peterson Puzzle
Iguanadon and 2 others reacted to Sycamore67 for a topic
I cut the Baby Elephant from Judy Peterson's new book called "Baby Animals". It is another one of her great puzzle books. One really great thing about the book is that she has a lot or good information for people new at cutting her puzzles. I cut the Baby Elephant puzzles using a #5 FD Polar blade from 3/4" cherry. The puzzle pieces were sanded lightly using a Mac Mop. It removes any fuzzies and rounds the edges slightly to make putting the puzzle together easier. The puzzle was finished with Danish Oil and then a finishing wax and buffed. I also make a puzzle tray to put it together in. The tray is made of a 1/2" BB with a cut out of the puzzle and a 1/4" BB backing. The tray was finished with shellac. I also made another version of the puzzle which is easier and made for younger children. I used the outline of the Baby Elelphant and then drew in easier pieces and keys., Judy Peterson covers doing this in her book.3 points -
I did it !!

I did write a post about this and was pleased with myself.....then somehow I deleted it !!!! I'm not writing this to go ''Bragging'' about a piece that I've cut but more about the fact that I've put some photo's on my ''Gallery'' all by myself !!! No kids - No grandkids - No husband was involved. I've only been in the Village since -------August 2018 !!! and I've finally worked it out !! Looking back at my first attempts with Silhouettes and the work I do now, I feel kinda pleased at my progression. A long ways to go but I feel I've definitely improved. Couldn't have done it without the support all the Village have given me.. Thank You.3 points -
Jerry, I have to laugh at the expression peace time. The cold war was indeed a war, the public has no idea how close we were, nor how many times we were close to an all out war, and the other side blinked. Thanks for writing that check payable to the United States, for the amount of, "my life if needed" and thank god it was not cashed Army 1969-19893 points

Dad was wounded in WWI. I'm the youngest of 3 sons. At different times, we were all volunteer Army. Oldest brother is deceased. He was wounded in Korea. Other brother & I served in peace time. I spent one year between the Artic Circle & the North Pole, at Camp Tuto Greenland (Google it). Army administration. After that stationed at Fifth Army Headquarters in Chicago working with classified documents. jerry3 points

I have been reviewing new saws ( as some may remembered from my posts) and had decided on the Pegas scroll saw. I had contacted Denny Knappen (member here) from ArtCrafters and ordered the saw from him. I got a very good price from him and also the saw was at my door with in just a couple of business days. Talk about fast service. Can’t wait to get it out of the box and trying it. Unfortunately it will have to wait for the weekend, but either way its in my shop so that’s a plus. This is one of my cuts I start as a filler to work on while taking a break from other projects. Only problem is I just kept cutting once I started... I saw the pattern and thought of a young girl, the daughter of a friend of my daughter, that is a big horse fan. I mean she can tell you all about them... Her folks recently got her into a horse jumping class.. she is doing great. Was in her first competition recently. I hope to give this to her, I think she would like it but I want to get her parents okay first. I like it, if they say no, it will fit on my wall!! Actually I stack cut two, I will have one anyway. I am a horse fan also... This is a Charles Dearing pattern. I had to decided between three of his patterns. I pondered a while then selected this one. When I put it in my horse folder, I noticed I already had the other 2!! Does someone have just two many patterns????2 points

Downloading Fonts
amazingkevin and one other reacted to don in brooklin on for a topic
the PDF is just a list on fonts I have. Most come from the system or dafont. If not PM me and I will send. As Jim says when you down load a zip file make sure you save it on your system just don't open it and install. Once on your font is on you system click and then click install for all users. That makes it available for all programs including Inkscape. If install for all users does not come up you have either not save to disk or you are running as admin only.2 points -
I don't believe they can be downloaded from a pdf file. You will have to search for the fonts in a downloadable format. Type in the name of the font in a search engine and see what comes up. Good luck Tom2 points

Respects to all my fellow vets It is the soldier, not the reporter, Who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, Who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. Not exactly sure what you mean by "bumps back at me". If you are not holding the piece of wood down it will sometimes bounce as the blade catches. It takes a bit of practice to get the right amount of pressure to stop the bounce but light enough to be easy on the hands. If you have a large blade you will usually have more of the bounce.1 point

Not sure about your saw set up. But on my EX21 you can adjust how aggressive it cuts. If real aggressive the blade will bounce the wood. I adjusted mine to were you place a piece of wood up to it and there isn’t any bounce.1 point
