    Proud To Be (almost)

Customer wanted custom gifts for family. Instead of saying proud to be along the top I put what it is with there names on bottom. Also another customer just wanted the EMS logo. So I took it from a proud to be EMS sign. All of these are from Sue Mey.

  2. If you do craft shows, let me suggest you grab this pattern. It is available for every state. I LITERALLY cannot keep them on hand. I sell them for $30.00 and sell every one I carry to a show with me....plus I sell a bunch on facebook marketplace. Get your state pattern and give it a try. Available at scrolleronline.com

    G is for Grant

Every year i design a Christmas ornament, which this year is a stocking...anyway....one of my customers asked if i could incorporate the letter "G" in to the stocking design, in place of the christmas tree for his nephew, Grant, who is 3..... the stocking is cut from 1/2" baltic birch plywood...sanded, painted and glittered......the paper quilling is 1/4"...of course i had to add some Swarovski bling for Christmas....enjoy.... bob

  6. When I first saw this pattern I knew I had to give it a try. I struggled with the joints and the finish but over all I like it. I struggle with understanding how to put a good finish on my project which takes away from what it could be like in the end. Maybe I need to take some lessons from Scrappile when I go see him again later this month. I can always learn something from him. We usually just sit and chat when I visit with him but this time I may pick his brain and try to come home with some much needed knowledge Dick heppnerguy

  7. I added 7 more Miniature Birdhouse Ornaments to my display at ArtCrafters. There are now 17 on the display with room for 7 more. A great way to display these Miniature Birdhouse Ornaments.

  8. @octoolguy I still bottom feed too Ray. I tried doing the top feeding, but just kept on bending blades. I find that 90% of the time I don't have to look where the hole is.

  9. You have to have a saw that is top feeding capable. Top feeding is feeding the blade from the the top instead of feeding the blade from below the the work piece. I started scrolling on a saw that was bottom feeding only. When I upgraded to a DeWALT saw, I immediately started feeding from the top. It made it so much easier and faster. What makes a saw a top feeding capable saw? The top arm lifts allowing the blade to feed from the top. Top feeders are the DeWALT and current Delta saws, the EX and clones like the Pegas and King saw and all the European saws that are EX clones.

  11. I've tried both I find bottom feeding to be the easiest. For me, when the blade is in the top clamp and you start bringing down the arm to top feed, the blade end is actually moving in an arc, I found that to be harder to get the blade down through the piece and into the hole in the table. I bottom feed all the time. That said, I top feed when putting a new blade, clamp it to the upper arm, lower the arm and tighten the bottom clamp.

  12. I've done both but actually prefer bottom feeding.. Maybe just because that is the way I started out on the scroll saw... I've had top feed capable saws for 13 years.. can do it both ways.. but always gravitate to bottom feeding. It's just habit and in order to top feed I have to make a mental note in my brain to do it.. There is way to many mental notes in there so this slows down the processor... Probably need more memory, ram, and a faster processor in order to be efficient with the mental notes.. Every time I tell my self I'm going to top feed on a project.. I do so on the first hole... maybe the second one.. then the 3rd one I have it already fed and ready to hit that foot switch when the light bulb goes off that I just bottom fed.. Not taking the blade out now to do a redo.. and that's how it all goes down.. Born a bottom feeder I guess..LOL What made me decide to just stick with bottom feeding was the day I kept getting mixed up and lost several new blades.. You see.. I got all confused about what I was doing and unclamp the lower clamp and then instead of raising up the arm to switch to the next spot I reach up and unhook the top blade from the clamp.. the blade falls on the floor with several hundred of other broken or dull blades around my saw.. after a dozen blades.. I realize that I'm wasting new blades with only getting one or two spots cut per blade..

  15. I am also a bottom feeder, even though my saw can top feed. My first saw was a bottom only and it is a habit I just can not break.

  29. I grew up and live in farm country and raised in the city. Worked a little on a farm when I was very young, and enjoyed it very much. My dad grew up and was raised on an orchard farm in Norway which I managed to visit many years ago. I feel the ones who were raised on a farm are much all around better people. Pattern of portrait attached is by Alex Fox done on ⅛” BB ply 11 x 14 placed within a 16 x 20 frame (stack cut 3).

    HORSE

This is one of my cuts I start as a filler to work on while taking a break from other projects. Only problem is I just kept cutting once I started... I saw the pattern and thought of a young girl, the daughter of a friend of my daughter, that is a big horse fan. I mean she can tell you all about them... Her folks recently got her into a horse jumping class.. she is doing great. Was in her first competition recently. I hope to give this to her, I think she would like it but I want to get her parents okay first. I like it, if they say no, it will fit on my wall!! Actually I stack cut two, I will have one anyway. I am a horse fan also... This is a Charles Dearing pattern. I had to decided between three of his patterns. I pondered a while then selected this one. When I put it in my horse folder, I noticed I already had the other 2!! Does someone have just two many patterns????

    Dragon sword and Shield

Didn't know where to post this. I did this Sue Mey designed dragon for SSWWC magazine. I did one with just the Dragon using Baltic birch ply and Alcohol dyes. They then asked If I could do one with a shield. I made that one with natural wood except for the Shield and backer which is 1/2 BB ply stained with Minwax Ebony. When the photographed it they had a sword (not mine). When I got it back I decided to make a sword. It is a combination of turning , carving, shaping and some painting. I am reasonably pleased with the end result for a "down and dirty " project. The blade was some scrap plywood from a crate painted with gold leaf.

  33. Well Gary, I am a top feeder. I started on a DeWalt and then to the EX21. I prefer top feeding, but it is a matter of preference. Your new saw works both ways.

  34. Thanks Dan! So it's actually the SAW... not the Pegas blade chuck that allows you to "top feed". I have a King now (love it...the WEN sold Tuesday) so I could top feed. Think I'll try it today, if I can get the shop warmed up. The WEN was a bottom feeder and when I got the King last month I didn't know you could do it different. That's OK...I've been called a "Bottom Feeder" before...

  40. Thank you, Chuck, I absolutely knew I had seen some of those designs before and I should still have a copy of that book on my shelves but, hunted for about 1/2 an hour and still haven't located it. Your excellent projects have made me decide I want to find those patterns again. Thanks and God Bless! Spirithorse

    My birthday present arrived

Congrats and happy birthday, beautiful machine. I am one of those Kevin ( @kmmcrafts) was talking about, I bought a roll of magnetic sheet material off amazon and my table (ex-21) is covered with it, Not only does it cover up those pesky holes, but it allows me to make a zero clearance hole for the blade, it is also very smooth and slippery

  48. A selection from my toy making days. I used to see yellow, my hair would be yellow, my clothes everything was yellow when I made the ducks. Besides the ull alongs like in the photo I used to make flappers that had a handle that you'd push and their feet, made out of vinyl would flap on the ground. I'd do dozens at a time as I just couldn't keep up with them. From memory they sold for about $20 each. All the googly eyes are recessed and superglued in place

  49. Thank you for all the good info. I have never even heard of this wood before now. Easy to see why it sold. You did a fabulous job on it. I still view it with a lot of 'awe'. I will check out the site you posted for this wood. You sure had me shaking my head with disbelief when I saw this one Dick heppnerguy
