My version of Steve’s Santa truck. My wife has really gotten into the Christmas truck thing. She has all kinds from paintings to scale models to pillows and on and on. When I saw this pattern, I had to cut it and she loves it! Cut from 1/2” Maple with a 1/4” backer painted red. The base is 3/4” Maple.11 points

Puzzle Trays
OzarkSawdust and 4 others reacted to Sycamore67 for a topic
I recently posted a project of a Baby Elephant Puzzle by Judy Peterson and received nice compliments. Several people commented on the puzzle tray that I had made. I have made a lot of her puzzles for my Grandkids and make these puzzle trays for each of them. It makes it much better to keep things picked up and not lose any pieces. I decided to put together some pictures showing how I make the trays. They are made from a piece of ½” and ¼” plywood. I make an outline of the puzzle as a pattern and cut it out on the ½” plywood. I typically sand the cut out on the ½’ piece using a sanding mop. The ½” and ¼” piece are glued together, the assembly is recut to have clean edges and edges sanded or routed to have a nice round over. I like to mark these on the back with my name and a year. I have used a varied of methods but recently bought a very cheap laser engraver. Now, I take 1” diameter plywood disks and engrave my name and year on to them. I drill a 1" shallow hole and push the disk into them. I finish the trays normally with shellac. I put the first coat on with a 1” foam brush which lets me get into the smaller areas. I will sand lightly after that and then use 2 coats of spray can shellac.5 points -

I finally finished the Renaissance Keepsake Box from the Creating Wooden Boxes book. I had actually done this box a few years ago when I still had my old Craftsman Scroll saw. That had taken me a month and I used Padauk wood. Bottom feeding with this fine pattern and using hex nuts to tighten the blades was a pain. Love my EX. I found some nice 1/4" board Bubinga at the Klingspor expo last month and wanted to use a wood that didn't darken like the Padauk. I really like the deep color and luster of the Bubinga. It was a lot easier top feeding with my EX-16 but it still took a while to cut over 600 holes and broke a whole lot of .02 blades. One of the included pictures is the darker Padauk box.3 points

I took my Christmas trees to the craft show and my pictures. I sold out of the trees the first half hour. I took 10 thinking if they don’t sell they make great gifts haha. I sold 15 pictures. I was surprised. I wasn’t going to take anything, my hubby sells pens so I go along to help him but he encouraged me to take my stuff. He says I’m better then I think. I made $400. .2 points -
Pegas Blade clamps
OzarkSawdust and one other reacted to JimErn for a topic
Bill I think it is the material its made from, the ex clamps are cast aluminum and the jaws can stretch apart pretty easily over time, pegas is machined aluminum, I forget the type of aluminum, but far sturdier than cast aluminum2 points -

I just got my copy of Judy’s pattern book today. Will be using your idea of the trays for the puzzles. Some very nice an easy projects. PS: would you mind telling about your engraver? How easy to use, cost, buy it were? Thanks2 points -
Where did you find those cute yellow funnels? Your photos are very interesting. I think your using larger diameter hoses and nozzles makes sense.2 points

Interesting as my Dremel will work with as small as #80 drill bits.2 points

Blade size? What to use.
Rolf and one other reacted to Bill WIlson for a topic
As has been mentioned on the forum a few times, it may depend more on what saw you are using. The more aggressive a saw cuts, you may want to use a less aggressive blade. I have an EX-21 and I'd probably use an FD-UR #1 for up to a 3 layer stack of 1/8" thick BB ply. Those bridges in the letters look pretty small, so that's is why I would tend to go with a smaller blade, for more control. Otherwise, I'd probably use an Olson #3 Mach blade.2 points -

A new topic/question to discuss
NC Scroller reacted to Scrappile for a topic
I have a Bosch 1617EVS mounted in a cabinet that I made from castoff kitchen cabinet. I've had it a long time, has served me very will. It has the Incra router plate with the magnetic inserts. The top is hinged and I have to raise it to adjust the router height. Lately I have used this set up more as I make picture frames so now I am wanting a router lift. Haven't decided whether to build one I have the plans for or buy the JessEm one. Years ago, I helped a friend build this little bench top one. It was the second project we did together after he asked me to teach him some about wood working. The first thing we built was a folding workbench. This little router table work well for him for many years. By the way, it was only a couple years after he ask me to help him, he had a bigger, better workshop than I will ever have. There was no stopping him. https://www.woodstore.net/Benchtop-Router-Table-p/gr-00151.htm?Click=465061 point -
They are the best. If all of the suppliers were as diligent as QTE is, we'd be in tall cotton.1 point

Beautiful, and I expect heavy based on the thickness of the back piece. What wood is the back piece?1 point -
Simplified mechanism, no nylon screw to wear out. Just a better design and much more compact. JMHO.1 point

Pegas Blade clamps
OzarkSawdust reacted to OCtoolguy for a topic
Your question has been talked about quite a bit here Gary. But, the long and short of it is, most of us who have changed over to the Pegas clamps have sung the accolades. A couple of folks have had negative experiences but not enough to say "don't buy them". I put them on my EX21 and what little bit of vibration I had, went away. And they are far superior to the factory clamping/tensioning mechanism. I bought mine from QTE.com in So. Cal.1 point -

I printed that a little bit ago myself. I didn't care for the red backer on Steve's site. But now that I have seen yours, the red looks good. I plan on using Maple for the truck like you did but will probably also cut one out of Walnut. Very nice nice cutting by the way!1 point -

Getting back to the original question for a moment regarding VAC noise. Using a Radio Shack DB meter I measured the noise from my Festool MIDI VAC running at low speed while extracting the dust from my SS. It runs at about 66 Peak. Not too bad. I will measure my shop VAC just for giggles.1 point

This is a 230VAC motor, but it is a 3 stage and a universal type motor. I'm not sure the shipping charges from this shop, but its not a horrible price. https://www.surpluscenter.com/Air-Pneumatics/Air-Compressors-Vacuum-Pumps/Vacuum-Motors/230-Volt-AC-Ametek-3-Stage-Vacuum-Blower-16-1552.axd1 point -

Holy Moly, that thing is expensive! Just like any tool, if you can afford it than go for it, but not for me. I have a full size dust Collector that I have connected to my saw as well as all my other tools. It cost less than half of that thing!1 point

I purchased several glue sticks and none of them worked for me. I wanted to use them for real small patterns but it was no go. Do you have a garage that you could use spray adhesive in? I use it in my garage and even in the coldest weather the garage is warmer.1 point
