This year I joined in on a Christmas gift exchange on another wood working forum. I think I am the only scroller on the forum so I told then whom ever received my gift had to realize it will be scrolled...We were only able to use a 1 foot 2" x 4" piece of wood to make the gift. After some thought, I came up with making another 3D cut Nutcracker. I have made 2 before, last year. These things are really fun to make. I am not very good at the painting and each year I get shakier, so it gets harder, but, I did my best. That is all I can do. There is no end to the ways they can be painted and decorated. I have a turner friend that told me the other day that he and his wife use to do a new one each year and the fun part was painting a decorating them. He said they had 10 before she past away. He hasn't done anymore. So here it is. The my 2019 Nutcracker. (last years are in my album on here). The pattern to make these is available, really cheap, from Jeplans.com. I have been communicating with the plan maker, trying to convince to make plans for a santa and maybe an elf. He is thinking about it. P.S. This was made out of a scrap redwood 2 x 4 from some deck repairs I did several yeas ago.... never throw away wood....15 points

Layered Ornament
Dave Monk and 6 others reacted to Sycamore67 for a topic
I made several of the Steve Good layered manger ornaments as presents. His pattern was for a 4" diameter but I found this too large and made some 3", 2-1/2" and 2" The small one was getting difficult for me to cut but made it through. I stack cut these 4 at a time from 1/8" Baltic Birch ply. The finish was Watco Danish Oil and then either shellac or lacquer.7 points -

Santa's Truck
Dave Monk and 3 others reacted to OzarkSawdust for a topic
I finished up Santa's Truck by Steve Good this morning. Had to laugh when I saw Dan put the same thing up yesterday...mine was in the shop letting the backer paint dry before I glued it up! I used 1/4" Maple and 1/4" Birch ply painted red but put it on an Oak base. I veined it with a Pegas #5 and followed with a 2/0 spiral. Following the #5 it was better behaved...but still tried to get wild a couple of times...lol. This method may be my only use for spirals, for now. I took it up to Red Barn to put in my booth and the owner really liked it. When I signed the bottom of the base I dated it and wrote "#1 of 10"...lol. Maybe people will think it's a limited edition...limited by how many I want to make...lol And she wants me to design a tissue box for the store! Cool!4 points -

Oh how I know that feeling. Between keeping stock for my weekly beach show and a few requests/orders we are staying busy. Thank goodness the wife cuts just as much as me if not more so it goes faster with 2. We've got 9 more shows to go before Christmas. I also sent in application for a 4 day show/festival in middle of January which has attendance of 60-80k over the 4 days so no slowing down here until February possibly.4 points -

I have an old, very old Ryobi table saw that works for me, and it came with a router mount in the sliding side panel of the table. I know they sell a router table leaf extension for a lot of saws, something like what you see in these pics, or build the add on https://www.pinterest.com/pin/775252523325611588/ edit found one, https://www.amazon.com/Grizzly-T10222-Router-Extension-Table/dp/B006SJEG5W I have to agree with @oldhudson that B&W workmate is one of the most versatile, handiest things to have in any shop2 points -
It is going to be busy, but make time to rest, don't want to fall asleep at the shows . I hope it's as busy for everyone else as it's been for me.. I've already sold out of a lot of my inventory that I built up over the summer.. but custom orders keep coming in and have hardly any time to "try" to restock some things.. It's not even my busiest time yet..2 points

Pegas Blade clamps
OCtoolguy and one other reacted to scrollingforsanity for a topic
I just ordered my second set of Pegas blade clamps from QTE yesterday. I have a set on my Seyco and will be putting these on my EX. Love them.I also ordered a couple gross #3 modified geometry blades and a couple sets of swivel ends for the thumb screws. Richard said that Pegas is discontinuing the swivel ends. You will now have to buy the thumb screw if you need a new swivel end. Richard said that Pegas thought that people were not getting the swivel ends in the thumb screw correctly and damaging the small O-ring therefore it would not work correctly and cause hockey sticks on the blades or other problems. Swivel end $2.95 new thumb screw $6.95. I have used the Seyco swivel ends in the Pegas thumb screw and they fit just fine for me. QTE I love ordering from them. Richard likes to visit and no sales pressure. Quick service.2 points -
I doubt this will be of much use to you unless you just do small things like I do. I just use it to round off small thing I cut on the scroll saw. 15 inches wide, mounted to the edge of a bench and chea... er inexpensive. I think under $150 including the little router which whips through 1/2" oak just fine.2 points

I consider the router only second to the table saw in it's usefulness in the shop. (I used it this week to make a beading element on a shadow box project.) I had a shop built router table in the 80's. I got plans from Woodsmith Magazine. It had a Craftsman router with 1.5 hp. My shop was pretty small and I made it so that it would be mounted on a B&D Workmate. Thus I could hang the table and Workmate on the wall when not in use. I purchased a Rockler router table in the late 80's and upgraded to a Kreg router table when they came out with theirs. Maybe around 2000? (I might have kept the Rockler but in an attempt to make some modifications I really screwed it up.) Anyway I kept adapting the tables to be held in the Workmate, so I can have that floor space when not in use. At the same time I purchased the Kreg table I purchased a Bosch 1617EVS. I like the Bosch router pretty much but I've had the switch go on it twice already. Here are a couple of pics. Note in the first (old) pic , my old Rockler table on the shelf. Also note, I've modified the Kreg/Bosch set-up with an auxiliary shut-off switch. There are two big disadvantages to my system. 1) You need to set it up each time and then take it apart. 2) dust collection isn't nearly as good when the unit isn't installed in a cabinet. 3) a less important issue is you need to store bits/tools somewhere else - But if you don't have the floor space - this works. One final note that B&D Workmate is one of the best tools I've ever purchased.2 points

That is a great price for a set of bits. My bits are either Freud or Whiteside and a single but is more than your set. For not heavy use, the less expensive bits are fine. I had a recent project where I ran 400 feet of Red Oak thru a bit and the but shows little wear.1 point -

If you are only planning to do a simple round over or an occasional chamfer almost any router with a 1/4" chuck will work. If you are trying to make fancy frames and cut daddos you will need a router which can handle a 1 /2" bit.1 point -
There are apps for your phone if you're doing everything from your phone.. I have no experience with editing videos.. you get the raw cut and even sometimes actual live video depending on where the person is following me from, LOL My one son does editing but he downloads the video to the computer and then edits.. he also compresses it to upload fast.. since we have slower DSL internet.. My other son does it right from his phone with one of the free apps from the app store.. I downloaded an app to do it.. just can't get time to figure out how to edit, LOL1 point

Bill, I am not sure what the stock clamps are made of I suspect some cast aluminum alloy. I never liked the so I never even considered any saw with that style of clamp. Being on multiple forums two of the most frequent complaints I have seen about the stock clamps is 1. the threads get stripped out and 2. the jaws spread and you get chronic blade slippage. The Pegas clamps are machined out of a high quality piece of aluminum. I have only had an EX style saw for a few weeks that I bought used with the Pegas clamps already installed. It takes a minimal effort and tension to clamp the blade and even being a bit heavy handed I don't foresee me stripping the threads and certainly not being able to spread the jaws. I would love to be able to have the old and the new side by side and do actual measurements. I wonder what issues the folks that were unhappy with Pegas clamps had.1 point

I have this table and like it very much. It has a lot of nice features. I used a cheap Craftsman table for many years which was very limited in what I could do with it. I always intended to build my own someday, but kept putting it off. Finally I saw this on clearance one day, at Lowes and made an impulse buy. I've been very happy with it.1 point -

I have a Bosch 1617EVS mounted in a cabinet that I made from castoff kitchen cabinet. I've had it a long time, has served me very will. It has the Incra router plate with the magnetic inserts. The top is hinged and I have to raise it to adjust the router height. Lately I have used this set up more as I make picture frames so now I am wanting a router lift. Haven't decided whether to build one I have the plans for or buy the JessEm one. Years ago, I helped a friend build this little bench top one. It was the second project we did together after he asked me to teach him some about wood working. The first thing we built was a folding workbench. This little router table work well for him for many years. By the way, it was only a couple years after he ask me to help him, he had a bigger, better workshop than I will ever have. There was no stopping him. https://www.woodstore.net/Benchtop-Router-Table-p/gr-00151.htm?Click=465061 point -
