  1. Well all is well but lots of meds to take now.i had no idea what was wrong but the pain was excruciating to say the least. Do I drove to the hospital knowing something big was going on,never thought it was a stroke.i had to rotate my shoulders as much as I could just to endure the pain while driving to the hospital. They put a stent in my heart via a vein in my thigh in minutes once the x-ray or ultra sound came back.BUT the good thing is I was surrounded with females all the time I was in the hospital. I didn't,take names as I,m behind already making names. About a week before this happened I slowed down to just about a stop scrolling. Yep the heart attack was building up.no damage that they know of! Glad to be back!!! Thanks for all the well wishing friends .God never left me!!!! The pharmacist got his name when I fill my meds. Can,t keep a scroller down long!!! He,s vietnames. The font is rage.

  2. Can't put this in Bragging Rights because this was just a practice, but I liked how it turned out. I did it in cedar and it is very fragile, and about the size of the mini bird houses, about 3" top to bottom. Now that I know I can make one I will try it in some Mahogany and Cocobolo I have. I think I will also increase the size a little. This is one of Steve Goods recent patterns.

  5. I decided to try a portrait. So I found Steve Good's "Easy Elvis" and cut it yesterday. It's going up for sale at The Rustic Barn so I just stuck it in a cheap frame. It's 1/4" BB ply done with a Pegas MG #3 and finished with spray lacquer.

    Gordon's advise

  7. I don't want to beat an old horse to death but here goes. I purchased a 5X mag light for my saw. Too strong. Put in on my metal lathe bench. Bought a 1.5X mag lamp on ebay foe $25, a very nice lamp for the price. Worked quite well but it kept my nose to close to the table. I bought this 3X lamp on Amazon for $50. Wow, perfect viewing distance for me. What is unique is the lens. The lens is plastic but the quality of the viewing is great! It is unusual due to it's shape. It is like not looking through a lamp because there is no distracting outside frame. The led's are mounted underneath and just ahead of the lens. The led's are 24 volt . It is a unique looking lamp but works beautifully just wearing my reading glasses.

    Santa's Truck

I finished up Santa's Truck by Steve Good this morning. Had to laugh when I saw Dan put the same thing up yesterday...mine was in the shop letting the backer paint dry before I glued it up! I used 1/4" Maple and 1/4" Birch ply painted red but put it on an Oak base. I veined it with a Pegas #5 and followed with a 2/0 spiral. Following the #5 it was better behaved...but still tried to get wild a couple of times...lol. This method may be my only use for spirals, for now. I took it up to Red Barn to put in my booth and the owner really liked it. When I signed the bottom of the base I dated it and wrote "#1 of 10"...lol. Maybe people will think it's a limited edition...limited by how many I want to make...lol And she wants me to design a tissue box for the store! Cool!

  9. First I did one for my wife. That developed into 4 more! One for each girl. Here are The oldest, the middle, and one of the twins. They will all be in Kansas City for Turkey Day. I have to get some more 1/2" x 6" Oak for the other twin and send it to Florida.

    #3

This year I joined in on a Christmas gift exchange on another wood working forum. I think I am the only scroller on the forum so I told then whom ever received my gift had to realize it will be scrolled...We were only able to use a 1 foot 2" x 4" piece of wood to make the gift. After some thought, I came up with making another 3D cut Nutcracker. I have made 2 before, last year. These things are really fun to make. I am not very good at the painting and each year I get shakier, so it gets harder, but, I did my best. That is all I can do. There is no end to the ways they can be painted and decorated. I have a turner friend that told me the other day that he and his wife use to do a new one each year and the fun part was painting a decorating them. He said they had 10 before she past away. He hasn't done anymore. So here it is. The my 2019 Nutcracker. (last years are in my album on here). The pattern to make these is available, really cheap, from Jeplans.com. I have been communicating with the plan maker, trying to convince to make plans for a santa and maybe an elf. He is thinking about it. P.S. This was made out of a scrap redwood 2 x 4 from some deck repairs I did several yeas ago.... never throw away wood....

    Layered Ornament

I made several of the Steve Good layered manger ornaments as presents. His pattern was for a 4" diameter but I found this too large and made some 3", 2-1/2" and 2" The small one was getting difficult for me to cut but made it through. I stack cut these 4 at a time from 1/8" Baltic Birch ply. The finish was Watco Danish Oil and then either shellac or lacquer.

  14. Each year we do an item for Christmas diner place setting. (19 coming for dinner this year) This year is an Elf on a Shelf. Modified Sue Mey pattern. Feet my design. Before you ask the shelf was a last minute design change as they are top heavy and would not sit up.

    2.5 weeks, 600+ holes

I finally finished the Renaissance Keepsake Box from the Creating Wooden Boxes book. I had actually done this box a few years ago when I still had my old Craftsman Scroll saw. That had taken me a month and I used Padauk wood. Bottom feeding with this fine pattern and using hex nuts to tighten the blades was a pain. Love my EX. I found some nice 1/4" board Bubinga at the Klingspor expo last month and wanted to use a wood that didn't darken like the Padauk. I really like the deep color and luster of the Bubinga. It was a lot easier top feeding with my EX-16 but it still took a while to cut over 600 holes and broke a whole lot of .02 blades. One of the included pictures is the darker Padauk box.

    Steve Goods Santa truck

My version of Steve’s Santa truck. My wife has really gotten into the Christmas truck thing. She has all kinds from paintings to scale models to pillows and on and on. When I saw this pattern, I had to cut it and she loves it! Cut from 1/2” Maple with a 1/4” backer painted red. The base is 3/4” Maple.

  24. Been busy cutting stuff destined to be Christmas gifts (four for my daughter's teachers, various friends and family, etc). Haven't posted much because I didn't want any of them stumbling across one of my posts, remote as that possibility might be, but this weekend I finished up two little projects that were less Christmasy. The first is a stand for my daughter's iPad, her protective case had a stand built in but that snapped off at some point. I used the scroll saw to round off the corners since I got rid of the old works-half-the-time-and-couldnt-cut-a-straight-line-to-save-its-life bandsaw. Second is in 1/2" scrap ply I had laying around, my boss wanted the sign for his office, seems that its fitting for our little IT department. **looks innocent** No idea where he gets that idea from.... Font is "stencil", I think. Nothing fancy, just official and governmenty-looking.

Nice work Frank. I won't let my dog see it - she seems to love to chase the squirrels that seem to have recently invaded our yard. We were recently camping and she went with us, lots of squirrels around that she loved to "tree" - so much so, that we were staying a couple of days at Disney's campground and I got a coffee mug from the movie where the dog is always distracted by the squirrel!

  40. Hi Travis: Your message is a funny one, but what's not funny is that we are short of the goal by ONE C'mon Villagers, NEED at least one more to step up to plate Believe me, if you participate, you will get this nice warm feeling, just like when you peed your pants as a kid, (or maybe just yesterday, I don't really wanna know) WHO WILL IT BE? 49. My Brother & I, plus the 2 wives had an Agri-business Corp. in NE Iowa for most of my working years. When Dad was living, he also had a sawmill. People would bring logs & we sawed them. In his wisdom, he realized that if we worked darn hard all day & ended up with a lot of sawdust in our eyes, we were glad to quit for the day, & not go out and raise h____. Powered the mill with a John Deere 820, and also farmed with it. jerry

I have sort of found the fix for this problem. I take pics of each stage along the way so that when something is done, I have a pictorial history of each piece. The fact that we can take quick pics with our phones had added that ability.
