  1. My holiday market crush has begun... 4 Saturdays in a row. #1 was today and was solid, beating my best day at this event out of 3 years. I had a new display rack for my key/leash holders and it was a huge success. My location was excellent and everyone saw it as they were walking by. I took orders for 10 leash holders before I sold my first puzzle. LOL Final tally 26 puzzles and 21 key/leash holders. I have a lot of cutting to do this week to fill the leash holder orders and to prepare for events, 2, 3 & 4 in case they're as good as today was. Photos of my booth setup today and my view.

  6. I like this Steve Good pattern. It’s hanging on a pallet wood piece I made a couple of years ago.

  7. 14 the hard way! They were going to be bird houses and wanted the best side on front. But to do that I,d have to make the perch and nest holes by eye.so that means taking them out of there shell and find a good side.well my friend says to just keep it simple and make them ornaments! That saves a lot of time so I did!!! I could cut about 3" and my arms were dead.still more resting I guess

  8. The bad thing about having a busy craft show. Time to get stocked up for the next craft show coming up the first weekend of December. I have 40 puzzles to get cut and a few videos to get ready also. I hope I don't give out. Jim

  10. Interesting, I have had the quick clamp for quite a few years and never a problem with slippage. I do not clean or sand the ends of my blades.

I've been a customer for a few years.. It's sad to see them close up shop.. but I also understand that running a small business on your property is not easily sold and transferable.. Then finding the right person that would take it over and run it like they'd want it run is far and few.. I'm doubtful that it's a huge profitable type business that rakes in the money that most people want for the amount of work at hand.. much like my small craft business.. Most people would not do it the way I do it.. as it is a lot of work for the money made.. You have to "love" doing it.. I have often thought about starting a business much like they run... to help with more income and use both craft sales and craft supplies to build a better income.. The problem I have is having the money for the inventory for all the clock styles and other things I'd offer.. I do sell clocks inserts now.. sales are far and few and then I have the ones that always ask if I'm going to be offering any other styles.. they like my prices but want different clock faces or sizes.. The issue is.. they may only want 1-10 inserts.. I have to buy a minimum of 100pcs.. and if I only order 100 the pricing changes drastically.. then I can't offer it at the cost I offer my clocks I use now.. I buy those because that's what I use.. Buy 500 at a time for the pricing.. One day.. I may start a supplies business as such.. but it'll be a slow going process to gradually build upon that business.. But for the time being.. I love what I do..

  14. The fine line between "being busy" and "I don't have time for all of this!!!" LOL... Fortunately I'm off from the day job this week and can try to get ahead of things... which translates trying to guess what people are going to want aside from the usual popular items.

  15. Maybe I'm the oddball but I like being busy.. I like making that special custom ordered ornament or clock at the last minute to fulfill someones last minute gift.. Yes it's busy.. but that is what keeps me going.. Some people stress about it.. then again.. I don't take on more work than I can handle either.. I stop offering custom made items by Dec. 1st.. many times before that.. just depends upon how busy I actually am.. It's only crazy busy for about 3-4 months of the year for me.. Maybe the difference is I do it all at home.. no crazy packing / setup / take down / unpacking etc for me.. I just pack up orders and hand them to the mailman every day.. For me.. I love the process of running business.. It's not about the money .. or scroll sawing for the money.. the money is the side effect of the process as a whole..

  17. I used to do 2 shows in November. Both big shows with GREAT sales. I backed off to only one this year. This is a hobby for me. Sure it is nice to have a few extra $$$ to buy more wood, tools and other such toys but stressing over orders and restocking quickly took the fun out of it.

  18. I hear your Iggy. My first show everyone said my prices were too high. Then my next show at a different place, same pieces and prices and I couldn't keep the puzzles on the tables. And now people are asking me about dog puzzles. So I've picked up two more 4'x12" poplar board and filled them up with assorted dog puzzles. And now I have less that two weeks to get these all done. It sucks being kind of successful.

  19. Hey Gary, thanks. The leash holders are actually new in the past month. I was exclusively animal puzzles for the first 3 years and been doing just fine but decided to try the leash holders and they're a nice addition to my mix, using the same animals/patterns basically.

  21. I like the natural Danish Oil. I very rarely use anything other than oil, or clear semi-gloss, or satin lacquer. Fantastic job! Dearing’s patterns can be challenging, but also very satisfying when finished! I am doing one now that is the most difficult portrait that I have ever attempted. I hope to get it finished sometime in the next week.

  23. I just soaked mine in alcohol for just a few seconds, put a drop of light oil behind the touch pad being careful to wipe it off the face of the touch. Really not much to go wrong. I don't clean or and my blades either.

  24. Very nice, Charlie, I thought it would be hanging on a Pallet Wood Christmas tree. The pallet wood project looks great! Of course, so does the Christmas pattern! Thanks for sharing and God Bless! Spirithorse

Hi Marg, Here are the 3 trees I have made. The one with the hole in the middle I cut last night without the hole to add to a winter scene on my shelf. It's not finished and I think it looks good so far. Hope the patterns work for you. I think I did it right, if you can't get them let me know. TammiChristmas-Tree001.pdfTree1.pdfLeaningTree.pdf

  36. Is this what they call ''Resting'' in the US ? I'm pretty sure that the doctors didn't prescribe scrolling till your arms went dead !!!! If you don't rest up you will be away from your saw for a very long time !!!!!! Take care of yourself

    2.5 weeks, 600+ holes

I finally finished the Renaissance Keepsake Box from the Creating Wooden Boxes book. I had actually done this box a few years ago when I still had my old Craftsman Scroll saw. That had taken me a month and I used Padauk wood. Bottom feeding with this fine pattern and using hex nuts to tighten the blades was a pain. Love my EX. I found some nice 1/4" board Bubinga at the Klingspor expo last month and wanted to use a wood that didn't darken like the Padauk. I really like the deep color and luster of the Bubinga. It was a lot easier top feeding with my EX-16 but it still took a while to cut over 600 holes and broke a whole lot of .02 blades. One of the included pictures is the darker Padauk box.

  39. Oh how I know that feeling. Between keeping stock for my weekly beach show and a few requests/orders we are staying busy. Thank goodness the wife cuts just as much as me if not more so it goes faster with 2. We've got 9 more shows to go before Christmas. I also sent in application for a 4 day show/festival in middle of January which has attendance of 60-80k over the 4 days so no slowing down here until February possibly.

I have been a customer for a very long time. they will be missed! I talked to Rhonda a couple of weeks ago when I ordered a bunch of blades. And she mentioned that her husband was going in for major surgery and I know she has also had some issues over the years. From what I saw they ran the business form an out building on their property so not such not some thing you could just sell. I wish them the best in their retirement. Sorry I never got to meet them.
