I have neuropathy and arthritis in my hand so when I am using the mouse on the computer I have difficulty controlling the pointer I have the pointer turned sown as slow as can be but still my mouse slides around my desk so easily that I still have trouble. I have found a solution that works for me. Rubber shelf liner. It slows the mouse and therefore slows the pointer giving me better control.10 points

Moto Puzzle
amazingkevin and 6 others reacted to Ivan Nikolaev for a topic
It was the most difficult and most interesting project. It all started with my friend’s request to make his motorcycle out of wood. When I did not find examples of the Internet, I decided to make a toy in the form of a puzzle. The material took a glued pine shield 37 mm thick. It turned out that such a blank does not fit into my scroll saw. After a little alteration of the mounts, everything worked out. At first I just wanted to cut out the fragments and round out the sharp edges a little. I spent one day, but I did not like the result, so I decided to give the puzzle more realistic shapes. I have little experience with woodcarving, so I was very afraid to spoil the model with one careless movement. All the work took about three weeks. Sometimes the work was done quickly, and on some days I just sat and looked at the individual parts and tried to imagine its future form. Of course I didn’t show my friend the whole process of work, but when he saw a photograph of the finished puzzle, he said only one phrase: “Shut up and take my money.”7 points -

Feedback Wanted - Personalized Ornament Kit
OzarkSawdust and 2 others reacted to Travis for a topic
Hi All. I've been toying around with an idea I'd like to get your thoughts on. I made a customizable ornament kit that allows you to personalize Holiday ornaments. Basically, this is a Inkscape (svg) file that allows you to personalize ornaments with names (or dates). I would provide the SVG file, along with instructions and some promo pics you can post to social media. This is basically a mini business-in-a-box where you can earn a little extra cash this Holiday season. Here's what would be included in the kit: SVG Ornament File - Inkscape SVG file that you can use to customize ornaments. (US Letter & A4 size) Step by Step Instructions - How to use the Inkscape file, and how to export PDFs and PNGs from Inkscape. Promotion Banners - Pre-made images you can post to social media that advertise your ornaments. (5 pricepoints in $ & £) GIMP Promotion Banner Template - GIMP file that allows you to customize your promotion banner with your name and picture. Note: This ornament kit is meant for folks who have a working knowledge of Inkscape. You don't have to be an advanced user, but you should have the basics down. If you'd like to learn more about Inkscape, you can find my free online course here. Here's an overview on how the kit works: With this kit, you can either sell finished patterns to fellow scrollers or crafters. Or you can sell finished ornaments. Here are some selling ideas: Custom patterns for fellow scrollers & crafters. (suggested price: $1-2 per custom pattern) Post to your Facebook (or other social media) that you make custom ornaments. Friends and family would jump at the chance to have a custom ornament designed and cut by you. (suggested price: $10-15 each). Take orders at a craft show, church bizarre or event. Or even scroll on-site. (suggested price: $10-15 each). Sell on Etsy or similar online handmade marketplaces. Just give yourself time to make and ship the items. (suggested price: $12-20 each) Fundraiser for youth group, school, or sports team. (suggested price: $12-20 each) Or maybe, they’re just unique gifts for friends and family (suggested price: $0 each) OK. Here's where I'd like to get your help: What do you think of the idea? Is it something you'd find useful? Do you think it would be too difficult to use? What would you think is a fair price for this business-in-a-box kit (take into account all that is included, including source files). Any other feedback?3 points -

Help For Arthritic Hands
OCtoolguy and one other reacted to Sycamore67 for a topic
Finding a good mouse or mouse pad can be a huge help with arthritis. But, this should also carry over to the rest of our work. I found that holding on to work pieces when I scroll saw can cause my hands to hurt. I sometimes glue small knobs temporarily into a work piece to make it easier on my hands. Also, remind yourself to relax your grip on a work piece. I guess I am very sensitive to this topic as I have had serious surgery on both hands. The hands are a precious resources and we need to protect them. I constantly try to find ways of doing things in my workshop that are easier on my hands.2 points -

14 birdhouses turned ornaments
Dave Monk reacted to amazingkevin for a topic
14 the hard way! They were going to be bird houses and wanted the best side on front. But to do that I,d have to make the perch and nest holes by eye.so that means taking them out of there shell and find a good side.well my friend says to just keep it simple and make them ornaments! That saves a lot of time so I did!!! I could cut about 3" and my arms were dead.still more resting I guess1 point -

This time...my first puzzle! A big thank you to Scott for the guidance down the path to Puzzle Zombie land...lol. Love his show setup. Clean, well organized, and very productive! The Poplar got a dip in mineral oil after being worked over by a Pegas #3 blade. It was a fun cut...I can see how it could become an obsession.1 point -

And why would try to ruin Thanksgiving? Happy Thanksgiving to all.1 point -
Never had any luck without a mouse pad. I have found a mouse pad that has a gel pad sewn into the wrist area of the pad to help with sleepy hands. It tends to keep the wrist level with the palm of the hand. Due to an injury when I was young my right index finger tends to go numb very quickly when using a mouse, the solution for me is to have the mouse settings set for left hand use and I then use my right middle finger on the right mouse button. The index finger is just used to right click or in my case left click. This solved the numbing issue but drives everyone crazy when they use my computer.1 point

Today's the last day to get your ornament patterns in for this year's Ornaments For Charity eBook! @Travis, I'm looking at you! I'll be working on the book this evening and tomorrow morning. I'm hoping to have it published by tomorrow afternoon. To my American friends, I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving turkey and hopefully sharing with those you love. For the rest of you, enjoy your Thursday.1 point

Help For Arthritic Hands
OCtoolguy reacted to teachnlearn for a topic
When I was in college going thru engineering one department was bioengineering. They had a program to search for and design adaptions for the disabled. They continually communicated with all the engineering department professors for help from the other engineering fields. We had many projects from them. There are many adaptions and programs that help the disabled adapt. Here is one link of many that can be searched. We don't have them in my area.. I'm curious what will happen to their supposed handmade selling venue they just started online this year.. By the looks of the site... it has little traffic.. This was a big deal and talked about launch of it in the handmade community but once they opened up the website... hardly anyone talked about it, LOL1 point

The way I do it is. Print my photo Spray a coat of clear lacquer on the photo Spray contact adhesive onto the back of the photo and onto the board you are going to fix it to. allow the contact to become dry (tacky) Carefully place the photo in position on the backer and press down from one edge. Roll or hammer (With a piece of timber between the hammer and photo) the photo down hard. cut you puzzle assemble the puzzle and give it another coat of gloss lacquer.1 point -

With every new item I buy there is always a shake down period as there is with this lamp. I've been cutting with it for about 10 hours now and I find it wonderful. The only down side is the lamp head is very light because it does not have the heavy light ring. As a result the lamp will all of a sudden lift due to the light weight of the lens and lamp. The problem was solved by placing a weight on the upper arm just behind the lens. The arms are very robust and work fine for the standard lamps with the light ring. Other than that the lamp and lens work very well. There has been lots of discussion on diopters. It appears that 3X is an all around choice for scrolling. Several here have purchased 3X lanterns that were recommended during a intarsia course. I do not mount lamps directly on the saw. The slightest vibration of the magnifier is disturbing to me. I mount the lamp on a bench next to the saw. I place no faith in the mounting clamps so I cut off the disk on the screw. I want the screw to bite into the bench. Then I drill a hole on the top of the mount and drive in a 1" sheet rock screw.1 point
