    My First Sale!!!

Hi all... not to brag but... I sold two of my creations today!!! I'm feeling pretty proud considering that I'm technically a three week newb. I know that I didn't even make near enough to cover my time and material costs, but hey... it's worth the feeling I got from the fact that someone actually thinks it's good enough to pay me for it. These are the two pieces I sold... they are both Steve's patterns.

  2. This Charles Dearing Gandalf pattern took a while. I cut it out of 1/2” African Rosewood, backed in cherry. The Rosewood is all natural color wise, but I did darken the cherry behind the wizard. I also didn’t like all of the space over his staff so I did an Eagle inlay to break it up a little. This will probably be my last major scrolling on my Dewalt 788 as I got my new Pegas in a couple of days ago.

    Do Not Disturb

Well, looks like it's going to be busy time in the ol' shed for a couple of weeks. I think I'll just ask the War Office to bring my tea down there each night. Did very well at the markets this morning. They ran from 9am - 1pm and I left about $600 better of then when I came. Now to re-stock for last one of the year, in a fortnight's time.

  4. I just finished cutting Sam Costodio's pattern. I love his patterns. There has been a discussion on the accuracy between the Dremel vs Seyco drills. You may notice on my cutting the little fingernail on the man's hand is missing. I is because of the Dremel's slight inaccuracy. I can overcome this by being more careful but with the Seyco I might've avoided this. However, if I were serious I would purchase the StewMac plunge router. Regularly $299 on sale for $160 including a tilt attachment. Dremel or other not included. A very expensive piece of equipment but so precise. Made for stringed instrument makers. I'm going to live with my Dremel system but were I a bit younger I would make the plunge. Sorry for the pun!

  5. I was looking a Christmas patterns I have stored and came across a 3D cut of Mr and Mrs Claus, by Diana Thompson. Looked like it would be a fun project because I enjoy doing the 3D cuts. I did modify Mr. Clause some because he was a pretty skinny santa with a short beard. I modified the pattern to try to give him more beard and more belly. Not very successful with the beard, but it you squint your eyes and cross your toes, you might be able to picture it. I had to modify the patten for the arms a little also, following the pattern I could not get the hand coming out the middle of the sleeve. Finally figured out what to change after four tries. So I cut 8 arm to get the four I needed. I had my fun, it was a bit of a challenge and painting something like this is a real challenge for shaky hands me, but well not worth the effort and I would not do them again....

    Tiny Horse Herd

Made from shop scrap wood mainly. Some pine and some unknown species. These were partly stack cut and partly individually cut pieces to fit the available wood pieces better. The size is about 4 inches by 4 inches by -3-1/3 inches wide. They are left unfinished, so they can be made more personal. ' The design is a T & E special, that seems to change fairly often too. Sometimes to adapt to the resources on hand. Construction uses toothpicks as nails after the glue has cured. Just to add to the playability of them.

Heck, the man holding the bunnies is a woodworker. I'm a woodworker, I have at least one black fingernail at all times and a few bandaids also.... badge of honor....

  20. https://forum.scrollsawer.com/forum/scroll-saw/tools-and-blades/42671-excalibur-21-repair General forum above. Call or email the Seyco. Having designed and help trouble shoot electronic equipment for my profession I never had a problem with any call to help out. Calls are valuable to the people making the equipment as much as yourself. If something is happening, it helps to be contacted and look into whats going on to correct a problem and redesign on the next model. Your problem multiples is a mgrs. quality control headache and their reputation suffers if it gets around there are defects. RJF https://www.seyco.com/

  21. Bill, I bought some on your suggestion. I decided I would try the natural. Used a round over bit this morning on a cherry project and the end grain tore out just a bit. I mixed a drop of cherry stain in with it and it worked great. Thanks for your suggestion.

    My First Sale!!!

ONYA Oscar. Put all your cash from sales in jar, mate and then use it to get blades, timber finishes etc, and maybe a new tool every now and again, and it will be a great hobby, wont cost you a thing. BTW, they are both very nice pieces.

  26. I learned one thing cutting these little figures. I have always thought a jig to hold them while cutting was unnecessary. Cutting the little arms, one these, was killing me, I was beating my fingers to death, breaking blades because I could not always hold and it the little pieces were getting away from me. So I took a hour or so and made a jig. Made all the difference in the world. Wish I had done it a long time ago. This is fashioned after the jig Steve Good had on his blog.

Very nice cutting on both especially the Christmas Greetings one. Letters are very unforgiving. Mistakes stand out. Three weeks it sure doesn’t look like it.

  35. The rheostat... I think is what they end up having to change.. whatever it is.. it's on the circuit board.. as Ray sells you a whole new board.. It's a different set up than my Hawk.. I replaced a $4 rheostat in the one saw I have... not because it was bad... but because I broke it when doing something else to the saw... Hawk wanted $150 for a whole new controller box.. I ordered a new rheostat and my son soldered it on for me...

  37. And so have I seen many people change the circuit boards on DeWalts .I was one of them along with all the knocking noise adjustments and bad switch's and other issues to keep my Dewalt working before I sold it for 100 bucks. It would not surprise me one bit if the Excellsior has the very same circuit board as the DeWalt .

    Small Shop Heating

Leshko, in the U.S., many many families have gardens where they grow multitudes of vegetables and fruits. There maybe some rules in some "rich" neighborhoods, but I have never heard of any in the communities where I have lived. I've had a garden at every house I've ever lived in. That said, I have always lived in the Central States, in medium sized to small towns. There there may be some weird laws in some large cities, and in the far East or far West, I'm not sure. Gardens in U.S. towns are usually in the back yard, so there may be restrictions in some places that restrict front yard gardens that detract from the neighborhood aesthetics. I have heard of some town rules that restrict livestock (chickens and such). Even in large cities, where there isn't land for individual gardens, some places have community gardens.
