I finally completed these yesterday. These are a Sheila Landry design. Easy to cut, lots of sanding and most difficult of all for me was getting them attached to the rockers. They are made of cherry and there is a very small gluing area (just at the small hooves). I use Titebond, nope, epoxy, nope, Clear Gorilla glue nope and CA glue. What finally worked was the combination of Gorilla Glue and CA glue. A second problem with the gluing there was no way to clamp them with the clamps I have. I had to dream up ways to use weights. The one with the held up leg, I had to use pins along with gluing. May have to go back and add pins to the other, they are fragile. They are around 6" long and 6" high.7 points -
And not a moment too soon... I'm beat... I'm fried... I'm DONE! My last event today was mediocre which kind of summed up the year. Sales $$$ were down 12% this year compared to last year. 2019 - 943 puzzles sold at 24 events 2018 - 1072 puzzles sold at 20 events I started hearing more and more at events "We bought 2 of your puzzles last year and we love them!" Great to hear, but no additional sale. That's why I started doing the key/leash holders and I look forward to really showcasing them next year after test marketing them the past month. I'll stockpile puzzles over the winter as usual and will also make a decent quantity of the popular dog breeds as leash holders to have on hand at events. Anyway, a solid year for a "hobby" business. I have some final orders to cut the next couple of days, then I'm DONE DONE! Merry Christmas to all. Especially my puzzle zombies out there.7 points

I did this one from a piece of cherry my brother gave me. I'm gonna give it to him for Christmas. I showed him a little at Thanksgiving on my scroll saw, he's bought a used saw and gonna give it a try. If I counted right there is 120 cuts on the outside and 54 on the inside. Total time was probably 4 hours. I finished it with 321. It's about 3/8" thick and I cut it with a # 1 FD. Thanks for looking.5 points -

Many times the subject has come up here and on other forums/groups regarding the "hockey stick" problems with saw blades. There have been lots of explanations offered but to someone who has very little knowledge of things mechanical or scroll saws I thought this might help. I just ran across this picture in the Excalibur owner's manual. It pretty well shows the problem and how to correct it.3 points

That's one dull looking blade.. Sorry.. I just couldn't help myself with that comment.. I had a blade issue where the blade looked like this and it was in fact the set screw had moved inwards like those pictures show though.. and I have no idea how you would get this because of that.. maybe it was a combo user error too I don't know.. but the [problem solved once I adjusted the set screw3 points

Ornament Exchange Tree
frankorona and one other reacted to dgman for a topic
Every year I exchange hand made Scrollsawn Christmas ornaments with others. This year I exchanged ornaments with two members, one from the U.K. and one from Australia. I like to set up a small tree on a shelf on the landing of our staircase. I decorate it with all the exchange ornaments I have received over the years. This is this year’s rendition.2 points -
Not scroll saw work but wanted to brag a bit. Customer asked if I could make him some cutting boards using wooden wine crates that he had collected. Cut and put them together in a puzzle style. He didn't want them to actually cut on them but more to hold limes, and glasses and such. More as a serving tray I suppose. He asked for just clear coat but I was worried the lime juice would eat right through normal poly so I recessed the wine box boards about a quarter inch and filled it in with food safe resin. The backsides are usable as cutting boards. One is straight oak the other is oak and cherry alternating. All of the wood was reclaimed. Sizes are 18 by 24 and 14 by 18. The 18 by 24 is HEAVY!2 points

I know how you feel. I have a router lift that was suppose to arrive at my post office yesterday. Delivered by UPS SurePost. I received a message late in the afternoon "Unfortunately, UPS SurePost couldn’t complete your delivery because no one was available to sign for it". Ya right, the main post office in our area and no body around in the middle of the afternoon..... This is the second time this has happened. They need to work this out. It is a bogus message, really telling me they are behind on deliveries and skipping this one will help catch up... That I understand, but I hate to be lied to.2 points

I actually had a situation with my new DW788 that I just received where it was bending the end of the blade and the set screw was exactly where it should have been, BUT it was turning when tightening with the thumbscrew. I tried blue locktite a couple of times but it wouldn't hold. I finally put a dab of wood glue on the set screw and it's holding now. I likely won't ever need to move it so I don't care if it's glued in solid.2 points

I'm more concerned about the spinal injection I hope it goes well. Hope the saw comes soon too,.1 point -
Sorry to hear your Saw was not delivered. I know how excited you were waiting for it, and how disappointed it was to not get it as expected. Almost like expecting Santa and then him not showing. Hopefully it will indeed show up Monday so you can be ready to go on a Tuesday. Look at it this way - at least your injection is scheduled for the morning rather than the late afternoon - that way you aren’t blowing two days. Hope the spinal injection goes well and helps with your issues.1 point

Congratulations to those of you that do shows and online sales. I am glad that woodworking is just a hobby for me. I occasionally make things for charity silent auctions and friends so l admire you guys for your ambition. I might have to start selling my things my wife says their is no more shelf space for the boxes or bowls that I make. I told her I will just make more display shelf space. She didn't like that idea.1 point -

Rubber bands have been my go to a lot. I need more CA,gel glue with spray accelerator. That has fixed things so fast to just keep on scrolling like it never happened. I knew you could improvise with all your expertise. Super glue and backing soda makes a quick bullet proof weld Ajax can't get off, Google it! great looking crafts you hand made!!!1 point -

Very, very nice, Paul, You really made the deer look proud and elegant. I usually just resort to using masking tape to hold intricate pieces until the glue sets. Simple but, effective. God Bless! Spirithorse1 point -
I can tell you about me. I'm in the hospital waiting to have a defibulator implanted Monday. Have not been scrolling much as my energy level is zero. Doctor says that will change quickly. Hope to be scrolling real soon. Merry Christmas and seasons greetings to all and to all a good night. ŹŹZZZZZZ1 point

King Arthur's Guinevere Sanding Motor

Searched and found this which is about 20 amps at 120 volts. Hand held tach meter will take care of dialing in the speed you want on a rotating shop tool. RJF1 point -
Dave, when I was first wanting to start with Intarsia I went ahead and purchased this one from Guinevere. It spins way too fast and cannot be slowed down since it does not have variable speed. After taking some of JGR’s classes, and using the Foredom in her studio, I purchased one of these with the adaptors and things needed from her shop: https://intarsia.com/collections/hardware/products/foredom-variable-speed-bench-lathe I prefer it to the Guinevere system since it is variable speed. She and I use it when sanding vary small pieces. For sanding larger pieces, she uses a Sand-rite pneumatic drum sander. However, given their price, she has her student stations set up with the flexible drum sanders that she sells on her site. I bought a variable speed grinder at HD or Lowe’s and add the flex drum sanders with the adapters from Judy’s site https://intarsia.com/collections/hardware/Sander and which are the same as Ray sells at Seyco. So if interested, you could get faster delivery given your location from Seyco. they do not sell the Foredom setup though it doesn’t look like. I have that system set up in the shop with the sander on one side and one of Judy’s wonder wheels on the other. I really covet the Sand-rite pneumatic sanders she has but just have not been willing to pull the trigger on that yet. I Haven’t figured out how to sneak it into the shop or explain the “need” for it yet to DH. I can’t remember what sizes she has on it, I think one is 8 or 9” and the other side is like 5 or 6” I think. She lets students use it while in class. It sands faster I think then the flex drum sanders (takes more off). Plus, the flex drum sanders eventually give out since their core is a hard foam and need to be replaced. They are both also on variable speed grinders. You could put the sanding mop on one side easily enough.Having the variable speed is very Important in my opinion. You can see the Sand-Rite system here: https://www.sand-rite.com/store/DUO-DLX-All-Purpose-Contour-Finishing-Sander-c35962737 anyway, my 2 cents.1 point
