Back a couple years or so ago, @Rolf and @NC Scroller Scott had shared about getting some copies of the German scroll saw magazine, Feinscnitt, and doing some patterns from them. I liked several of the designs from a couple of editions and ordered two different ones with Christmas designs in them. Knowing no German, I was going to have to go on pictures alone. I have looked at them from time to time, bit hadn't tried to make any of them until now. There are still several I want to try but I did get around to cutting these out of 1/4" BB ply and then using the Unicorn Spit stains on them that I bought a while back. (Yes, I am a gotta have it and then procrastinate type person.) LOL Here is what I finally got done. Several others I want to try from them too. Wish they had a "translated version" of the magazine, or that they could work with SSWC to put some of their articles in SSWC as they have some really beautiful things in their magazine - maybe I just need to learn German. I hear my husband's family's surname is maybe of German origin. (Have also heard not too though.) This is the magazine's home location: https://www.feinschnitt-kreativ.de - everything is as should be expected in German but with the help of Google translator and a bit of time, I was able to order the copies I did. There are more from the two I want to do, we will see if I get anymore done from them this year. I have been playing "clean up" on several projects I had started and have had laying around as well as cutting a few new ones like these this past week so I will try to post a few more photos of some other items this week maybe.7 points

GrandPa Fiddle Pattern
frankorona and 6 others reacted to baggetta for a topic
Had a customer recently who has a GrandPa who plays fiddle and she wanted something different as a gift for him. So I came up with this little piece, which see enjoyed receiving. I cut the sign from cherry and the base, as usual, was cut from the off cut of the sign. Rounded over the edges and glued it to a darker piece of teak to make a nice display. Not sure if any of you can use it, but here it is.7 points -

Tree of Life

I did this one from a piece of cherry my brother gave me. I'm gonna give it to him for Christmas. I showed him a little at Thanksgiving on my scroll saw, he's bought a used saw and gonna give it a try. If I counted right there is 120 cuts on the outside and 54 on the inside. Total time was probably 4 hours. I finished it with 321. It's about 3/8" thick and I cut it with a # 1 FD. Thanks for looking.5 points -
Just finished my final Christmas gift for this year. My nephew and his wife are visiting the weekend after Christmas and decided to do a portrait of them. as usual the design took longer than the actual cutting. 3 days to clean up the photo and one day to cut. 1/8 BBPW on 1/4" backer. Picture frame material from Lowes. Hope they like it.5 points

Ornament Exchange Tree
frankorona and 3 others reacted to dgman for a topic
Every year I exchange hand made Scrollsawn Christmas ornaments with others. This year I exchanged ornaments with two members, one from the U.K. and one from Australia. I like to set up a small tree on a shelf on the landing of our staircase. I decorate it with all the exchange ornaments I have received over the years. This is this year’s rendition.4 points -

Definitely not for the bragging section, but I needed a quick project for a great grandson almost five. The pattern is by Sarah Lyn Chamberlain and found in SWC Fall 2019. I used 3/4" Pine and cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw with MGT #5 blades. The finish is dipped in Shellac diluted 50% with alcohol. Comments welcome.4 points -

Santa for us and the Jeep ornament for some friends. Thanks to Birchbark for the pattern! Two others made patterns that I will also cut out in a few days, Gordon and multitom. I appreciated them all! I should have painted the tires black. Actually, I shouldn't have painted it all at, but the friends like all of their vehicles red.4 points -
The Ice Princess Pattern
Phantom Scroller and 2 others reacted to baggetta for a topic
All the kids are agog about the Ice Princess in "Frozen" so I though a nice little plaque for a child's room would be right in order. I used 1/4" birch ply to cut out the sign and then sprayed it with white paint and covered it with shiny dust to make it look like a cold snowy object. I then painted a backboard arch which I improvised. The sign part was glued to the board using a couple of 1/4" pieces of ply to give it a 3D effect. You could put one of those sawtooth picture hooks on the back to make this a wall plaque, but I chose to put it on a plate stand. I got the plate stand from Steve Good's site, if you are interested in this method. Might make a nice gift for a little one in your life . Pattern available free on my Free Pattern Page3 points -

Had a great season even though we had one show cancel at the last minute. We did 4 Crafts Fairs and brought in a little over five thousand for the season. Our best yet even being one short. Still working on some special order but soon I will be able to take a break and then back to work for next year.3 points -

I finally completed these yesterday. These are a Sheila Landry design. Easy to cut, lots of sanding and most difficult of all for me was getting them attached to the rockers. They are made of cherry and there is a very small gluing area (just at the small hooves). I use Titebond, nope, epoxy, nope, Clear Gorilla glue nope and CA glue. What finally worked was the combination of Gorilla Glue and CA glue. A second problem with the gluing there was no way to clamp them with the clamps I have. I had to dream up ways to use weights. The one with the held up leg, I had to use pins along with gluing. May have to go back and add pins to the other, they are fragile. They are around 6" long and 6" high.3 points -

I Saw the Light and Have Converted. Puppy Love!
GPscroller and one other reacted to Old Joe for a topic
I just finished this Mike Williams design, with a few liberties taken. This is my second cutting on my new Pegas saw and the entire project was done with #1 and 2/0 Pegas Spiral blades. I am new to using spirals, but I am now officially sold on them. Folks often ask me “How long did that take you?” and I honestly had never kept track, but I did with this one. From taping and gluing the pattern, to drilling and cutting a ton of holes, to sanding and oiling the cartoon and staining the backboard, cutting a keyhole slot and imbedding a signature coin, and doing the glue up, I had just over 21 hours of actual work time. It is approximately 8” x 11,” a bit smaller than Mike’s suggested 11” x 14.” I have found that making many of the patterns a bit smaller has an allure to many people. Hope you all enjoy!2 points -

Take a look at the brushes on the motor. They may be worn down or you may have to just stretch the spring some to add pressure to them. Sounds like a dead spot on the motor.2 points -

Is RBI Hawk still in business?
SCROLLSAW703 and one other reacted to kmmcrafts for a topic
Probably selling the saw is your best bet since you're not happy with how high it is on the stand.. Maybe sell it and get another EX or Hegner.. I hated my Hawk for the first year I had it... then I told myself that I'm not ever going to get used to it if I always go do my cutting on the DW.. So that one winter after the holiday rush.. I told myself I'm using the saw for full year and not touching the DW.. Got me to actually love the saw.. I thought about buying another new 20" saw this year.. and sell off the old 20" saw.. Parts aren't a big deal with enough family and friends that are machinist.. and have machining tools in their hobby garages / shops.. always happy to make something.. Hawks are all solid machined parts. nothing cast on them.. newer ones that is.. some of the old ones had some castings... Edit to add: I wouldn't want the business... they've run it into the ground enough that'd it'd be quite hard to dig out of the hole and make it a profitable business..2 points -
Maybe a bunch of us Hawk owners should all pitch some money in and buy the business. I'm sure that collectively we could run it better. It's great that they have kept the name and the business going but to run it the way they do is really sad. If this is the way they are going to continue, I might be tempted to sell my Hawk and move toward a brand that is better represented.2 points

Nice cutting Justin. First of all, thanks for purchasing the patterns from my site, Harvey Byler appreciates it. As far as blade, I use #3 Pegas Modified Geometry. Before that, I used #3 Olson Mach Speed. I always cut 3/4" poplar. Yes, speed needs to be cranked up. I keep mine around 7 1/2 out of 8 on my DeWalt. If you find the puzzle pieces aren't sliding in and out smoothly from both sides, adjust the tilt of your table making test cuts until you find the "sweet spot". Don't count on using the tilt gauge or a 90 degree angle on your blade, it's best to just tweak things til you find it. Keep up the good work and have fun with them. Let me know if you have any questions. If you haven't already watched my videos, I have a couple where I cut a sea turtle and another cutting a dragon, just search You Tube for my name Scott Seifer1 point -

And not a moment too soon... I'm beat... I'm fried... I'm DONE! My last event today was mediocre which kind of summed up the year. Sales $$$ were down 12% this year compared to last year. 2019 - 943 puzzles sold at 24 events 2018 - 1072 puzzles sold at 20 events I started hearing more and more at events "We bought 2 of your puzzles last year and we love them!" Great to hear, but no additional sale. That's why I started doing the key/leash holders and I look forward to really showcasing them next year after test marketing them the past month. I'll stockpile puzzles over the winter as usual and will also make a decent quantity of the popular dog breeds as leash holders to have on hand at events. Anyway, a solid year for a "hobby" business. I have some final orders to cut the next couple of days, then I'm DONE DONE! Merry Christmas to all. Especially my puzzle zombies out there.1 point

Hi Joe and welcome back. I am sure your daughter and her husband appreciate All you do for them and your grandson. Glad you are finding time to work with your Saw. There is a subforum here in the Villagecalled “Pattern Requests” specifically for making pattern requests. Most folks who help out there only ask for a thanks and a photo of your finished piece. You can find it here:https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/forum/30-pattern-requests/ Also check out the pattern library here for lots of free patterns. It can be found here: https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/gallery/category/2-pattern-library/ Then there is the “Resources “ section of the Village with different resources including one with links to other pattern designers sites. It can be found here: https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/pattern-shops/ some of those provide free patterns and ones for sale. Also, you might check out Steve Good’s blog if you aren’t familiar already with it. He posts a free pattern almost everyday and has done so for years so lots to choose from there too. His blog is here: http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/ and his searchable pattern catalog can be found here: https://www.stevedgood.com/catalog/index.php1 point
