  2. This pattern is by Mahendra. He did an amazing job with a very complicated pattern. Thank you so much @multitom. I tweeked a couple of bits but not much. It was NOT an easy pattern to cut and I certainly will not be cutting it again. I used 2.5mm Bamboo and it measures 11.7" x 16.5", for the Aussies out there it's an A3 size. Marg

  5. Thank you, your post makes me very happy. I am glad that they are active. I hope those Christmas orders are saws. ! Randy I am 71+ and yes that 54 lbs is still heavy and awkward to carry. But it is only one a year.

  6. My husband drew the pattern and had it cut at his work out of tread plate. He helped me make the frame and I stained it. My co-worker loved it.

Love this pattern by Sue Mey. I'll probably cut one of these every year. I'm giving this one away on my Facebook page to who ever guesses the closest # from 1-500. It's cut in 1/2" Walnut.

Black poplar burl slab, 21 X 22 inches, Charles Dearing pattern. The pattern for precious was so creepy, had to cut it. 11 X 15 inches, stack cut three 1/8 BB ply, pattern by Jon Marshall. Jeff

    Oldie but goodie

I cut this about ten years ago. It’s a pattern by the late great Dirk Bolemen. It comes out every Christmas season. I made six that year. Stack cut 1/8 Baltic birch plywood. Back then I would of used Olson #2 and 2/0 Reverse tooth blades. If you look behind Mrs Claus, there is a wall clock. Dirk designed a real clock of that. I cut that clock. It comes out every holiday season too.

  11. I have my saw set VERY high, different reasons. I bought a drafting stool from Office Depot. It is padded like an office chair, swivels, has 5 casters and a back. The casters are locking, which is good because I have to ‘hop’ up to the seat! I love it.

  15. Getting my equipment unpacked for my “winter shop”. I was presently surprised that I have more room than I thought! Off to the right of the picture are a full size washer and dryer for the wife, and a frig. for the beer...lol. Still about 5-6 ft from the saw to the double door, and several plugins! Even an A/C...as it’ll be 80* on Christmas Day! Chair/stool shopping tomorrow and I’ll start cutting! Probably going to do several puzzles as they go quickly and there are a bunch of craft shows down here.

  21. Lets not make this rocket science here. You can tell by looking at a blade just about what size it is. Now weather it is a skip tooth double skip tooth or even a PG blade. It gets you in the area and if you are accustomed to run those type blades it is just sinful to throw them out because you are too lazy to look. Now the difference between a #2 or #3 or blades that are close to each other in size would be difficult to tell apart. I never could understand people who move up or down one size in blades and makes that big of a difference. I have been scrolling for over 35 years and if changing blade size it will be a substantial change in size. Many charts out there that show side views of blades and should not be too hard to get in the ball park. We are not building and cutting diamonds.

  22. For me the cost of the blades are not worth the time and effort. My advise is to come up with a system that works for you for storing blades and then go buy new ones. Then give the mixed up bunch to someone else and let them fret (pun intended) worry about them.

  23. On occasion, I've used a blade minimally to make a cut and then removed it and threw into my test tube marked spares rather than where it actually came from in the new blade test tubes. Well to tell the truth, never grabbed the spares because I don't want to waste the time trying to figure it out what it is or screw up a project. Overall, blades are cheap and life is too short.

  29. Yesterday I was in the shop. I'm not do any scrolling so I was putting away a gross of blades I had just purchased. I had just sorted three dozen #1 PGM blades to make sure the lower end of the blade went into the tube first. I only check one blade per package assuming all other blades are the same. I was about to place the last of the three dozen blades in the tube when I picked it upside down. Three dozen blades hit the floor. Since I'n not do do anything but sit around and wilt I gathered them with my magnetic picker upper and checked each blade for bottom orientation. At least it did pass some time for me.

    Is it just me??

I updated the software the other day (I don't remember which day). A lot of times, when the software updates, it has to re-cache and re-index the site, which slows down the response time. I'll keep an eye on it. Let me know if it is getting worse or not.

  34. I'm a bit younger than you I think, but that 54 lbs of awkward weight, though lighter than your Hawk, is still putting my back at risk everytime I move it. Right now, it is my best option, so I'm dealing with it. I do like that weight though, when I'm actually using it, and need the weight to stifle the vibration. ------Randy

    last min project

As I prepare to tuck myself in bed last night, my wonderful wife mentions her secret Santa gift exchange at work today. Oh yea no gift or time to hit to store. wife: Can you do me a favor? So here it is, 1 hour, putting my slippers on to taking them off. That was fun. Obviously not my best but pulled it off minus the finish.

  36. I think the point here, Dutchscroller, is to not over think this. Everyone has their own individual comfort level when it comes to cutting speed (both blade speed and feed rate). It may vary, depending on the material, blade, saw and pattern, but you will quickly find yours. I tend to change my blade speed as conditions change, but some run at one speed all the time. I rarely run the saw wide open, but that may be the norm for others. It's all about control and comfort level and we all have different requirements in those areas.

  37. Man, readin all this chatter about the Hawk saws is like listenin to the news 'bout Trump!:( I'm lookin' to buy a 20" Hawk. I just called'em on the phone & got all the information about the saw I needed. They ain't a huge outfit like yer dewalts & such. They's a family owned & operated business. This time of year, they're busier'n a couple a tomcats in a gunny sack on accounta Christmas orders. Try callin of a mornin before noon o'clock central time & talk to Miss Nikki. Scrollsaw 703
