Not a Project
amazingkevin and 9 others reacted to JTTHECLOCKMAN for a topic
This is not a thread about a project I made but about projects you all make and show here. It does not get said enough here if at all that the work being shown here is some top rated work seen on any forums. Now many times people will post a project and it does not get alot of comments but may get alot of likes or vice versa. It must be said those things do not indicate that one project is liked better than another. It maybe not as many viewers per week or per day. I know myself I look at most projects when I come here and maybe do not comment or hit the like button but still love to see the work. So my point is here is a LIKE to all who show their work here. It is a pleasure to see such talent in one place and you should all be very proud to show us your work and it does not go unnoticed. Please keep them coming and happy scrolling to all.10 points -

Last project for Christmas
barb.j.enders and 7 others reacted to Hudson River Rick for a topic
I just wanted to share this newest project of the Nativity that I completed today. The pattern is by Steve Good and I jacked it up a little for a special customer. The frame is made from Poplar scraps I get from a local cabinet shop, the Mary and Joseph image and the base are cut fron 5/8 inch Cherry and I also used Cherry for the corner splines on the frame. The tiny LED fairy lights are sewn to a dark blue fabric to simulate the night time journey. Our customer LOVES it. Thanks for looking.MERRY CHRISTMAS to all.8 points -

My future son in law requested a family gift, Christmas ornament. Since all the "crafters" around here have discovered laser cutters, I wanted something different, so I stepped outside my comfort zone and tried compound cut ornaments. A big hit. Now I need to talk to my lawyer friend to see how to set this up. I want to hire someone to store a brunch (50) of ornaments and after I pass, mail them to my daughter every year, just before Christmas. here are some of the ornaments I've cut so far: the small one is birch ( local source for 1" x 1" square dowel, birch) the rest are from pine 2x2. the ornament patterns are Steve Good. The reindeer is a test pattern off the internet.6 points

Ever since the big kafuffle about one of the candidates having a big wine wing-ding in a rather extravagant wine cave of some millionaire lots of people have revealed that they have their own wine caves. It might only be a couple of bottles kept in the cellar or a large basement wine storage. In any event here's a sign that you can use to point the way to your wine cave, should you have one. I cut mine from two pieces of MDF. The top is 1/4" and the backboard is 1/2". I painted the top a brown color and the backboard a nice purple, like some of the wine. Finishing Baltic Birch

Thanks for all the suggestions. It's just a hobby. I can't shoot archery anymore and fishing here is terrible so this is what I do. Been doing it 20+ years. I sell enough to replenish my supplies and give many away and have several leftovers each year. As long as I can make enough money to buy all the wood, blades and everything else I need I'm happy. I don't count the cost of my saw itself as I would spend more than that on archery and fishing goodies.4 points -
Got these done in time. The sign is for my cousin, and is walnut letters on a pine backer. The finish is sprayed on polyurethane. The plaque is for my son, and is for the department he worked in on the USS John F. Kennedy aircraft carrier. It is cut from 3mm and 6mm baltic birch, painted with spray paint and craft lacquer. It has a top coat of spray shellac. This was copied from the department's patch.4 points

We went up the street last night to a little open house that our dear friends hosted. I made one of my votive candle holders for her a while back and she proudly displayed it in her home. I had to take a picture to share with you all so you can see what it is that I work on. I hope you like it as much as she does. And as much as I do making them. I can't take credit for the wall sconce. She had that. But, now I'm looking for a pattern to make some of them. I'm going to try to design something but if any of you have a pattern that is similar, please forward it to me. If I have to pay for it, so be it. If it's the right pattern, I'll gladly buy it. Thanks.3 points

These are the ornaments that I made to go OS. Two of the Gingerbread people went to Cornwall in the UK, the other two went to Scotland. The other ornaments went to Dan, @dgman in the US. I cut them so long ago I can't remember what the woods are. Some of the patterns I got form the Ornaments For Charity book. Marg2 points

@JustLarry posted the method I use in Inkscape. I also make use of other free conversion programmes online such as https://svgtopng.com/ I prefer to have my files in png, jpg etc so I can drop them into MSWORD or Publisher and print out on the required paper size eg. A4 or A3 or multiple sheets.2 points

I will agree with the others. I use 1/4" maple with 1/4" walnut quite a bit. No problems at all. Which is really cool, because we all know how beautiful of a contrast they are when used together.2 points

Great looking puzzles! I cut them from 3/4" pine and it works great.2 points

I think this is a good spot to close down this discussion. I think the original question was answered, and folks got to speak their piece about quality of service and expectations. I think it's time to get back to making some sawdust and enjoying the Holidays! Thanks All.2 points

Finishing Baltic Birch
Sycamore67 and one other reacted to Bill WIlson for a topic
If you want to stay more in the range of natural earth tone colors, you could go with shellac. Shellac (the flake variety) comes in a multitude of tones that start with an almost clear, very faint amber tint all the way up to a very deep reddish brown. The shellac could then be both colorant and finish. You could also mix alcohol based dyes with the shellac to expand the pallet of colors available, even more.2 points -

I'm fairly new to Scrolling
Phantom Scroller reacted to cashew22 for a topic
Hey there -- I'm fairly new to scrolling -- been at it just shy of a year now but it's done well enough that my Ryobi bought me a Pegas for Christmas. Before this it was a year with a Dremel and that's about it for my experience with woodwork. I'll try to throw a few pics up to show some of what I've accomplished so far. The first (ornaments you should recognize - patterns are from here) are my first cuts with the Pegas - everything else was with the Ryobi. I know the S's are upside down on the 1* plaque but it was just a prototype. The other plaques have some Dremel work in segmenting the center piece. These are pretty much my most recent.1 point -

This is an issue I had with my EX-21 .. Here is the topic I posted with my fix method.. I have run over 100 hours since I fixed it and it hasn't moved one bit.. other than when I intentionally move it.. Somewhere there is another discussion about this and the fix was just wrapping a rubber band around it.. Probably a much easier / quicker method.. I just like doing everything the hard way.. Makes my life more interesting.. Merry Christmas1 point

The nice thing about puzzles is that it really doesn't really matter if you stay on the line. I use a sanding mop to break the edges on mine.1 point

I use Inkscape. Bring pattern to Inkscape. After size is what you want, select "save as" from File menu. Select file to save to. Name pattern, then from "Save as type" scroll down to "portable document format (*pdf)" and select save. Larry1 point

I work with 1/4 Walnut for ornaments and such and it works great. No problems at all.1 point

It was fun trying something different that I had to figure out on the fly. One thing I found is, even on the large cut out pieces, instead of 1 entry hole at the easiest place to start a cut, it would've been better to have multiple holes for the other side of the cut. Scrappile had the best suggestion. Spiral blades are ideal for something like this.1 point

I had the animal ones last year sold like mad so I made another 20 and sole 5 this year. I sold them for $5 each and the cost wass about $0.25 each so I guess I about broke even. IKE1 point
