  1. Russell generously made me another portrait pattern of my Pop at the beginning of the year, I did two stack cuts of 4 and made up my own frames. I also laser cut the back of each frame and gifted them to my family for Christmas.

    tape dispenser

I needed a way to use the 2 inch wide packing tape on a bench top. Nothing was available locally. So, I bought a tape gun that had a bolt on handle, removed the handle and clamped it to the bench with a pair of vice grips. Now I can tear off small strips of tape when I am working with patterns and stacked assemblies. This is (for me) much easier than using it as a tape gun.

  5. Valentine's Day is a great day for giving gifts, any day is a great day for giving puzzles as gifts. So here's a simple 12 piece heart puzzle that might make a nice gift on V day or maybe just about any day. I cut mine from 1/4" birch ply and lightly painted it pink on the front. The butterfly is a tattoo a friend of mine has. I took a picture made it she don’t have a clue she’s going to freak. It’s really special to her.

  8. HI All Brand new to scroll sawing. Don't even have a scroll saw yet. Me and my 15 yo make wooden/Azek fishing lures. We have been cutting them out on the band saw. Well I have been doing all the cutting. My 15 yo is high functioning autistic and I'm afraid to let him use the band saw. I am more comfortable with a scroll saw, which I think he can handle. He's a tad clumsy and doesn't always think ahead so I need to pick and choose the power tools he uses. He can use the oscillating spindle sander, small disk sander, and the small drill press with no issues. The scroll saw is a little slower and less aggressive so with a little supervision he should be fine. Just need to find a good used Scroll Saw now. Oh, I just discovered Intrasia. A Steelhead would be a nice project for us. BD

That seems to be a dilemma that many of us suffer from. I'd like to relocate. My wife says she's perfectly happy where we are and keeps throwing it in my face that we are 76 years old and have no business moving. I might be 76 but I refuse to believe it. I am wanting to move somewhere that has a much lower cost of living so we could afford to do some things before we perish. But, like you said,............

    Oldie but goodie

I cut this about ten years ago. It’s a pattern by the late great Dirk Bolemen. It comes out every Christmas season. I made six that year. Stack cut 1/8 Baltic birch plywood. Back then I would of used Olson #2 and 2/0 Reverse tooth blades. If you look behind Mrs Claus, there is a wall clock. Dirk designed a real clock of that. I cut that clock. It comes out every holiday season too.

    Special order

This was a special order from a customer. I had about a week to cut, finish and send it across the country. The original pattern had a guitar on it, but the customer didn’t want it. 1/4” Red Oak with a Walnut backer, also 1/4”. 5” wide 6” long

  22. Hey there -- I'm fairly new to scrolling -- been at it just shy of a year now but it's done well enough that my Ryobi bought me a Pegas for Christmas. Before this it was a year with a Dremel and that's about it for my experience with woodwork. I'll try to throw a few pics up to show some of what I've accomplished so far. The first (ornaments you should recognize - patterns are from here) are my first cuts with the Pegas - everything else was with the Ryobi. I know the S's are upside down on the 1* plaque but it was just a prototype. The other plaques have some Dremel work in segmenting the center piece. These are pretty much my most recent.

    What to make?

The wife got me a couple boards for Christmas. 1 purple heart and 1 zebra. Both are 1/2" thick and 4"x4'. She meant to get me 1/4" boards and I suppose I could find someone to resaw them for me - I don't have a bandsaw, but I was thinking maybe I can just make something nice for her out of what I have. Any thoughts from the peanut gallery?

    What to make?

1/2" whatever you make is going to have some weight to it. Purpleheart burns very easily when cut. Take a look through Steve Good's patterns. I am sure you can find something there. I am partial to clocks so that is my suggestion. Do you have other woods also and maybe mix things up. Zebrawood looks good with maple and or walnut or even red oak. That is a combination I use alot. Purpleheart to me is an accent wood. It darkens over time and will not hold its purple color. I would use either of those woods at that thickness as a base. I dip zebra wood in Danish oil and then polish it up to a high shine with a buffing system.

@Birchbark, Many thanks Russell for that wonderful pattern. I may make another this year and follow your design a bit more closely, also a bit closer to the pictures that started it all. I took it to the Childrens Hospice and they loved it, I also took some of the toys and ornaments left from the Christmas Fayre we had at the Mens Shed and left them to be distributed among the kids. Thanks Again. @meflick, Thanks for the link I will probably make another this year if the members of the 'Shed' feel they can find somewhere that would appreciate it, maybe an old folks home ?? Thanks again to everyone that commented, and a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year to you All. Don W

    A gift for a friend

We went up the street last night to a little open house that our dear friends hosted. I made one of my votive candle holders for her a while back and she proudly displayed it in her home. I had to take a picture to share with you all so you can see what it is that I work on. I hope you like it as much as she does. And as much as I do making them. I can't take credit for the wall sconce. She had that. But, now I'm looking for a pattern to make some of them. I'm going to try to design something but if any of you have a pattern that is similar, please forward it to me. If I have to pay for it, so be it. If it's the right pattern, I'll gladly buy it. Thanks.

  30. I was thinking of cutting a bunch of wood portraits of myself, but all I could do is donate them to the military torture units. I'm sure your family will love your gifts. Its becoming rare that a gift is thought about and made, just grab a tv gadget and they will mail and gift wrap it. RJF

  31. Have him clamp the wood in a wood clamp on either the scrollsaw or band saw. If they over cut or make a mistake they cut the wood clamp and not themselves. By using a wood clamp, rather than a metal C clamp the blade hits wood, not metal. RJF

  33. Adding a couple pictures you requested. These are unfinished, just got through cutting them. The truck is Steve Goods pattern scaled down, the pig and Walleye are Sheila Landry and the Merry Christmas is Boob's Scroller pattern. I am not a very good photographer. These are the ornaments I was going to try the Danish oil on.

Russell - thank you for all the work you did to craft this pattern. I watched its development last year as you all progressed through it. I know it has taken a lot of time and effort on your part to create the pattern and for Don to cut and create one. He did a fabulous job with your pattern. I've added a clickable link to the discussion and pattern info. that Russell provided above: https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/31960-looking-for-christmas-reindeer-pattern/#comments

Just in case anyone else might be interested in this pattern, here is the original pattern request and the pattern i made to help. https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/31960-looking-for-christmas-reindeer-pattern/#comments It was a lot of work, if anyone wants the pattern, PM me. Not a Project

This is not a thread about a project I made but about projects you all make and show here. It does not get said enough here if at all that the work being shown here is some top rated work seen on any forums. Now many times people will post a project and it does not get alot of comments but may get alot of likes or vice versa. It must be said those things do not indicate that one project is liked better than another. It maybe not as many viewers per week or per day. I know myself I look at most projects when I come here and maybe do not comment or hit the like button but still love to see the work. So my point is here is a LIKE to all who show their work here. It is a pleasure to see such talent in one place and you should all be very proud to show us your work and it does not go unnoticed. Please keep them coming and happy scrolling to all.

  45. Here are some of the patterns I have. I hope this helps. To make the bookmark blanks, I cut a block of wood so one face is about 1.5" by 6". Then I use a bandsaw with a 1/4" , 14tpi blade to slice the blanks to about 1/16" thin. Then to the belt sander they go. I made a jig to hold them. I start with 40 grit to get the bandsaw marks off then sand to 120 grit. This generally takes them to 1/32". After cutting on the scroll saw I hand sand to 320. Sometimes I add two coats of poly sometimes I leave them with no finish. It depends on my mood. Bookmarks 1.pdf Bookmarks2.pdf Bookmarks3.pdf
