  1. Robin Williams was a gift to people who like to laugh. As a fellow struggler with depression I feel a connection with him. Love this pattern by Charles Dearing. Cut in 1/2" red oak. I reduced the size to around 7" X 9".

    Wedding

A couple of friends of ours got married close to the end of last year and it was a blast! A couple of months before they asked me if I would do a couple of cuttings for them. They wanted a guestbook and also a couple of signs; one for the hall and one for the guestbook itself. Am attaching a couple of photos for your viewing and any criticism you feel is necessary. I really appreciate constructive criticism. Oh the white Mr & Mrs on the table we not my doing. Thanks and have a good one folks. Tony

  4. As I stated in my introduction, I try to incorporate scroll work into my overall projects as much as possible. Here are some of my recent ones: Bookends using Steve Good's patterns Bookends 800ISO by Scott Baker, on Flickr The back side of a clock with the door using pattern I found in a book I bought as well as Navy Senior and Master Chief Petty Officer insignia; my Uncle's last name and the years he and his wife have been together are at the top (1981 to 2019) Uncle Fred Clock Back by Scott Baker, on Flickr

    Oak Cross

This is another piece my brother gave me. I thought it was a nice piece of oak. It's about 8x14 1/2" thick. It was a very hard piece of wood, not sure why. I used a FD #3. Semi poly for the finish. Thanks for looking.

  9. Yep... works very well for sure. My ritual when I go into the shop now, in this order is: Turn on the lights, turn on the dust infiltrator, turn on the radio, sit for an hour with 2 big cups of coffee and decide what I'm going to do on that day. /Oscar

    Plexiglas anyone?

I cut plexi and acrylic mirrors and colored sheets many times. There is different types of so called Plexiglass which is a brand name. Some are harder than others and crack easier. Need to be careful there. Again MY opinion.

    got a new chair

That's how I had my foot switch on my DeWalt.. Though the way I mounted mine I didn't need to drill any holes it had molded tabs on each end where you could drill a hole to mount it.. I used the tap as a clamp so to speak and just wrapped the zip ties around the stand.. Held in place nice but every now and then it'd slip forward and I'd have to wiggle it back... I had a HF on / off foot switch for that saw and it had the wires coming out the same end..

  14. I buy mine from http://stockroomsupply.ca/shop/sanding-mops.html They are in Canada but ship to the USA a lot as they are real close to the border. I have both the Max Mop and the Sanding mop. I have the Sanding Mops in a few grits but the Max Mop is a spindle at 180. They are not cheap but I use the Max Mop a lot and have had a long time. In USA available at https://www.woodworkingshop.com/search.aspx?q=max+mop The sanding mop is https://www.woodworkingshop.com/search.aspx?q=sandin+mops

  17. Thanks Scott for the reply. Mine is “full wattage” on all the time as best I can tell. I cannot recall if I tried poplar or not. I was surprised it did not burn the maple hardly at all even when I had it go over it like 20 times. I need to try the laser on the CNC machine which I think is 7 watts and see how well it burns. I was looking for something small and easy versus setting up the CNC, which would require more setup time and effort. The good news is that trying it with the little one first makes me more comfortable in trying it on the cnc machine. (Before I was concerned about burning something i didn’t mean to burn. )

  18. Hey Melanie, The one I have is the model 3500, then it goes to the 7W and the 20W... so I think mine is literally half the strength of the 7W. I'm running it at only 25% intensity and it burns nicely into poplar, so should not be any trouble at all with harder woods if you turn it up a little. If not, go with the 7W which isn't a whole lot more money.

This one is from a pattern by H.Botas Size is 11" x 16" & was cut mainly with Silver Reverse 2/0 Blades & a 3/0 spiral blade in a few places. Made a few mistakes but think it came out ok in the end. I stack cut 2 of them and both are sold already to my very good customer & one of his workmen.

    Imagine...Take 2

I finished this last night. It’s from a Charles Dearing design. This is the 2nd one of this one that I cut. The first one I foolishly cut out of 1/4” Cherry and proceeded to break it when peeling the tape. This one is BB and it was still very fragile until it was glued down. I won’t do this one again.

  23. Steve posted this little wine rack today. I thought it was simple and cool so I made it to pass on to someone. Not sure how sturdy it will be, don’t have any wine bottles to try it out. I’m more into the square bottle stuff!

    Plexiglas anyone?

You can use Plexiglas as a back drop to a stack of cuttings that form a 3-d picture, and then an led or two at the base lights it up nicely. You will get all kinds of tips on Plexiglas, I find a fine tooth blade at a slow to moderate speed will cut it and not have it melt back together behind the blade. Some use a torch to smooth the edges, but I find it way easier to wrap a thin paperback book with sheet sandpaper, and the book will curve over the edge as you sand. I do this on Harley windshields when I cut them down, and the end result is great.

  27. I looked not long ago The Festool runs 62db on low.. and the Fein is 66db.. Not bad I guess.. I measured the sound on my shop vac with a db app on my phone.. Showed me 78db.. For what it's worth.. I found a muffler / defuser thing at Ace hardware for my shop vac.. Honestly don't think it made a difference whatsoever.. I should run a test on it to see for sure.. but sure doesn't seem like it made any difference.

    got a new chair

Thanks for that great explanation. Pics are always helpful. By the way, I posted a long while back on how to reroute the wire coming out of the side of that foot switch so that both wires come up the same place. It really helps to keep both wires in the same orientation. I hated that wire coming out of the side. It was always getting in the way. I will have to check our Costco for the chair. Thanks again.

    got a new chair

The setup I'm using is a hybrid; bottom of the chair is a HF chair that came with a motorcycle seat the top is a tractor seat from a chair I bought at Tractor Supply Co., the platform is 1/2" ply 2x4ft with a hole to fit the post in the chair, the hole is offset front to back to allow room for the foot switch. Maybe this will give you some ideas.

  32. Now you will have more custom pieces and more mailings as opposed to select and carry at least that is the way I see it. That is one reason I stayed away from name customizing. Yes a few more $$$ but more work in the end. Definitely do not want to do that at a show and then goes your handmade theme right out the door. people would not understand the difference now and they really would not understand the difference of adding names. You could have been doing that all along except scrolling the names in in stead of burning now. Good luck with the new toy.

  34. One thing I have found on these Mac Mops, the grids sand much finer other sanding media of the same grids. I have 120, 180 and the 240 grids. I use, the 120 most often because it seem like is give a finish equivalent to around 200 grid. I do love these Mac Mop.

That's a very nice chair. Can you offer up any info on it? Also, do you use a foot switch? If so, how? I have a shop stool that I have been using for my Hawk but I haven't come up with a suitable place to mount my foot switch. Any ideas?

  48. Music is always fun to work with either in the music room or in the wood shop. Here's a little sign I put together using an inlay outline of a guitar placed in the word. I cut mine from teak and then attached it to an off cut from the same pattern. Available on my Free Pattern Page
