Here’s a couple I been doing. Tom Taylor has been helping me to learn to paint. I’m loving kicking it up a gear. Long way to go but here they are

    Steve Good box

Steve Good's "Hummingbird" box. Apparently my hummingbird got some bad pollen, it seems to have grown bigger. And angrier. 1/4" BB ply, used #3 (for the dragon) and #7 FDUR blades. Stack cut enough for two boxes, but only put the inner lining in one of them (daughter was fine with an open box).

    Plexiglas anyone?

Unfortunately, this topic has changed from WHAT CAN new2woodwrk do with what he has to where to purchase, etc. I think the plexi would be useful for projects like lanterns that have 4 panels with lighting inside. Small nightlights with the C30 type bulb can also be made with the plexi. Perhaps some Christmas ornaments or monogram necklaces. God Bless! Spirithorse

    Wedding

A couple of friends of ours got married close to the end of last year and it was a blast! A couple of months before they asked me if I would do a couple of cuttings for them. They wanted a guestbook and also a couple of signs; one for the hall and one for the guestbook itself. Am attaching a couple of photos for your viewing and any criticism you feel is necessary. I really appreciate constructive criticism. Oh the white Mr & Mrs on the table we not my doing. Thanks and have a good one folks. Tony

  10. It's not finished yet, but I was so excited I actually got to cut something after 14 months of down time. What blade do you all use for these things - I used a Pegas Reverse Skip #3 Hopefully get it sanded, stained and coated today as well Thanks for looking

  11. Soccer has become quite the popular sport and is admired by many rabid fans. So it is fitting that we have an unusual table sign that soccer lovers can enjoy. Usually I put the figures on top of or aside of the word, but I tried something a little different this time, injecting the action into the word itself. I cut mine from 1/4" cherry wood and mounted it on the off cut of the same type of wood adding an improvised swirl to the base. Free pattern can be downloaded from my Free Pattern Page: http://baggetta.com/pebooks/puzzle_patterns.htm

    Cutting question

Agree with above. As a way of proving things take a block of wood about 1" thick or better and just make a line up and down. Make sure it is 90 degrees to edge of wood so use a square. Now cut on that line. If the cut is straight and blades are true then it should cut straight. To prove this take that block of wood and now try to insert the blade from the back side. It should slide right in with no deflection. You can also lay a square along side your blade and operate by hand the motion of the saw and watch the blade against the square. It should travel straight up and down. If not you need to look at table to blade and also the setscrews being equal in your clamps. Not much more to it. If all is good then you are pushing to hard and not allowing the blade to cut. I use a #5 FD blade for just about all my cuts. It is a nice middle of the pack size blade.

    Cutting question

I agree with Fred. If the saw and blade are square (90 degrees) then you are pushing vs straight feeding more then you think.

    Cutting question

90 deg exactly for blade to table or side pressure nost likely. Excess front to back blade aggressiveness can also cause it.

  17. I can't let this go. I have 2 HD and Lowe's 15 minutes each side of me. Both are great. HD has the panel saw and cuts my 4X8 plywood into quarters for no charge. OK, I can relax now.

  18. I'm really sorry to hear that. Where I live, and many of the places I've been, I've had nothing but great experiences with one or both of these stores. My closest friend worked in a couple of H/D stores and related many heartwarming stories that he experienced. It has to have something to do with your location and the shortage of good well intentioned people to manage those stores. Bad attitudes are very difficult to overcome and our country has become home to some of the worst. I'm truly sad to hear what you said. A sad sign of the times we live in.

  20. Still getting plenty of custom ornament orders in. Cut these out today. Made the CB radio with the handle name in the banner. That’s a popular custom / personalized order I get plenty of each year. The Camaro ornament was personalized with “ Cammy” The other ornament is a company that I always send a gazillion ornaments to every year for their Christmas party and was an extra (broke) one but seen it laying there so thought I’d show it. Cammy is cut from cherry, others are BBply Still have more ornaments to cut yet before getting caught up. Then a personalized wedding angel which is a Sue Mey pattern but will be adding the wedding date.

    Oak Cross

This is another piece my brother gave me. I thought it was a nice piece of oak. It's about 8x14 1/2" thick. It was a very hard piece of wood, not sure why. I used a FD #3. Semi poly for the finish. Thanks for looking.

  23. Working out the kinks to my process and trying to remember how I did things last year LOL I cut out a bunch of puzzles in some poplar we bought at Lowes - $20 for 8"x6' board - got 9 patterns out of it. Originally had 11, but after gluing them, somehow the layout didn't work the 2nd time LOL I rough cut them all, drilled the holes for the inner pieces on all of them, stacked them for cutting and was able to put out 2 cuts today: Not sure where I got this pattern so if it belongs to someone here thank you: Pattern Removed This one I cut, but it's too small - the tabs for a few were too small and don't stay in so I'm going to use it as a sample, and cut a larger one Paper not removed on this one yet - The pattern came of the woodimals book for this one Both will get finished tomorrow hopefully. Thanks as always for reading

  48. Hi to all. I have always loved the challenge that portraits provide when cutting with my saw. Over time I have managed to refine my technique regards pattern making and try as much as possible to get a true likeness of the subject that I am cutting. Apart from my patterns being better I feel that my cutting has also gotten better but feel that I still have a lot to learn. The first pic, (which I have already posted here), is of my wife's daughter, the first ever portrait that I cut and the second is of one of the Maltese villages Patron Saints. It is of Christ the King of the village Poala which I cut last summer. Thanks a mil Tony
