    Festus, again

I cut this pattern by @wild bill a little over a year ago. When I showed it to a widow woman who lives on my street she hugged it and said she loved Festus so I no longer have it. I cut it again today and added a few details around the nose and forehead. This will be going back on my shop wall to replace the other one. No western loving widow women allowed to view it.

    Drop it!

My sense of humor has always been a little....quirky. "Off", as my wife (and several HR departments) would call it. One of the first patterns I ever created, using Publisher of all things: the F-bomb. An order done and drying. 1" "whiteboard" from Lowes, used a couple of #7 FDUR blades (they cut, but I'm more of a fan of Pegas, so I'm trying to burn through my FD blades. Don't judge me!), one set stained Minwax Espresso, one with Minwax Ipswich Pine. Stack cut them two at a time. I'm sure The Clash would approve...."The Shareef don't like it...drop the f-bomb, drop the f-bomb..." Oh....wait....they were singin' about "rock the Casbah". Eh, close enough.

  6. I'm working on a series of small pocket size toy cars. Here is the latest toy car. I made this by enlarging the pattern to fit the wheels. The original pattern is here. https://toymakingplans.com/itty-bitty-scroll-saw-surprises/

    Tree of Life

When I saw a youtube video of someone who did a scroll saw tutorial on the tree of life....it convinced me to get into the hobby. So I bought a scroll saw and made this my first project. I decided to attach a photo as well for the background. Also added a white backing so the light would show through a bit. I put the finished tree of life on the window sill.

  8. I started this moose last June and only completed it yesterday. It was always a background project that I worked on in my spare spare time. The design is by Judy Gale Roberts. The following types of wood were used: Western Red Cedar in various shades, Green Poplar, Walnut, Cherry, Blackwood, Holly These photos were taken in two different types of light and with two different backgrounds. I can't decide which one I like better, so am including them both.

  9. My son in law, Jonathan, owns and operates a fish and chip place in Oshawa Ontario. Here is a photo of the store's logo: I found an interesting pattern somewhere on the internet (if anyone knows where, please let me know so that I can give credit to the designer). I combined that pattern with a portion of the logo to come up with this: Both the foreground and the background are 3mm thick Baltic Birch plywood. I made the (Rosseter-Pellow) frame from clear pine.

  11. ...my father always called himself a "wood butcher" even though he could make anything out of wood. Some of what he could do rubbed off on me and here I am. I'm mainly using my saw for cutting out shapes on my artsy projects. I started with an old "buzz saw" and have just recently upgraded to a Menards scroll saw. I've only cut one project on the new saw but its awesome compared to what I was using. I'm hoping to learn how to better use my saw... how to select the best blades and HOW TO PROPERLY SET TENSION... as well as wood selection and of course technique I'm 47, married with 3 girls... work wholesale selling auto parts and like puppies and making saw dust. Oh, and cars. Love cars.

    Steve Good box

Steve Good's "Hummingbird" box. Apparently my hummingbird got some bad pollen, it seems to have grown bigger. And angrier. 1/4" BB ply, used #3 (for the dragon) and #7 FDUR blades. Stack cut enough for two boxes, but only put the inner lining in one of them (daughter was fine with an open box).

  13. Still getting plenty of custom ornament orders in. Cut these out today. Made the CB radio with the handle name in the banner. That’s a popular custom / personalized order I get plenty of each year. The Camaro ornament was personalized with “ Cammy” The other ornament is a company that I always send a gazillion ornaments to every year for their Christmas party and was an extra (broke) one but seen it laying there so thought I’d show it. Cammy is cut from cherry, others are BBply Still have more ornaments to cut yet before getting caught up. Then a personalized wedding angel which is a Sue Mey pattern but will be adding the wedding date.

  19. Go to the pattern section here... OR... Go to the resources tab at the top and in the drop down you can find the tab for pattern shops.. in there you'll find a list with many other web pages where patterns can be either bought or some free ones as well... I'm like JT... I have a long list of patterns i want to cut... probably never get to half of them..

    Festus, again

I love giving away 'that special piece' that someone sees on my shop wall. I almost always take it down and give it to them. You are so right about the reaction being way more lasting and pleasing then the money you could have sold it for. this is an outstanding piece and your little additions brought out a lot of feeling in this piece.
