  1. Whisper

    Teddy Bears

These are the first pictures I've taken with a new camera. And only the 3rd and 4th projects I've done. I used pine boards, segmented the pattern, and used the water/alcohol stains on them. I have 3 more of these cut out, my husband thinks we've been invaded by Teddies.

    new cuts

Finished up a few new ones. The flower and bird on a facet are by Botas Helder, the bird and camera is one by Miltitom and the Big cat is author unknown, could not find the pattern with a designer name on it. Didn't want to credit it to the wrong person. Sorry. Jim

  4. Not sure when I'll be able to get back to the SS, gotta a few things to build this week and weekend. Here are yesterdays cuts, unfinished. Will get the wife to finish them over the weekend... I tried to cut this one also, but failed. I think the tabs are too small for me. I had another cut (different animal) with small tabs also and opted not to try my luck Thanks as always for reading +

  5. I love trains and great scenery. I found this copy of a Super Chief advertisement and knew I had to cut it. Pattern by me (using GIMP2). 11x14" Baltic Birch Ply. Pegas 2/0 spiral blades.

  6. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," so they say. Well one of the most beautiful creatures of nature is often seen in the summer as they fly from flower to flower. I tried to capture this fleeting spirit in this sign. I cut the sign from 1/4" maple wood and cut the butterflies at an angle on the scroll saw so they would project off the word BEAUTY. I coated the butterflies with a dark stain before reinserting them back into their openings. I then cut a rather winding top layer for the base and mounted the whole shebang on top of a slab of teak to complete the project. Hope you like it. The free pattern is available for download on my Free Pattern Page:http://baggetta.com/pebooks/puzzle_patterns.htm

  7. Make sure you clean the crud off your shoe soles so you don't "crud up" your sanding sleeves. I did try using my shoe on my sanding mop but when I laid on the floor I couldn't get my foot up high enough to reach my drill press. Too high.

  8. Two projects finished Monday, January 20th. Both are Steve Good patterns. I cut these on the demo Pegas Scroll Saw. I used Pegas MGT #1, #3, and #7 blades. Picture are deceiving and the "Be Mine" Heart Box is only 1/3/4" x 4" x 4". A tiny box. A little story about the "I Love My Valentine". I made one several years ago and glued the front pierce to the backside of the second piece, so the words are backwards. Dianne still has it on her wall. Good Memories.

  9. I haven't had much time for any new projects yet.. well that's sort of a lie.. I've been real busy with several custom orders in the last couple weeks.. Mostly fathers day gives.. I ran a paid ad on FB and Instagram and the sales from this 15 day ad has been kicking my behind, LOL Anyway I squeezed a little time to get this clock made just because I thought it was cool.. Hope everyone is enjoying some saw dust making time..

    Pattern to pratice

Scott, thanks for the explanation, I am aware of Alex's patterns, but with the way this was posted, I just didn't clue in. If it had been posted that it was a layer or scrap from the cutting, I would have known what was meant by the posting. Len

  12. FWIW, that abrasive cleaning stick can be replaced for free. You can use the slow of a flip flop or the rubber sole of an old sneaker to clean the sanding sleeves, works great on all my sanders.

    Self Challenge

Now that the holidays are over I can start going on to other things to cut. I thought I would push myself to do something with a challenge (don't forget... I'm a newb ) Here's how things are going so far... /Oscar

  14. One of the most popular signs in my Etsy store has been the table top Area 51 Sign I designed several years ago. I thought I'd update the sign a bit with a variation on the theme and also use a raised inlay to make the sign a bit more interesting. I cut the sign from maple, but I stained the raised inlays with a chestnut stain to make them stand out. Also cut a bazaar jagged base to accent the piece -- even left the blade burn marks as an accent. I have the pattern here for you if you would like to try it, but I have to make two notes here. First on the pattern I had a problem with the number 5, since the head of the alien is out in the open. The five becomes rather weak. You might want to include a little band of wood where the five opens, when cutting. Also I used 3 degrees on the saw tilt, might want to use 5 degrees instead. Experiment. Pattern can be downloaded from my Free Pattern Page: http://baggetta.com/pebooks/puzzle_patterns.htm Video: Also did a video as I constructed this sign. If you'd like to view it it is available on my YouTube Channel.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdAq26AGCLE

    Aussie Fire Update

If you click on the link that Paul put on about a quarter of the way down is a map, on the left side in bright yellow you will see an island in the middle of the bay, it's called French Island the on way on to it is be ferry, well on Saturday they had a bush fire an it burned over 150 hectares. There are over 3000 koalas on that island used for breeding because they have no diseases, luckily only a few were lost. If you get your magnifying glasses out you will notice that on the main land the island is off Hastings where I live, there were LOTS of water bombers going over and very low too. Marg

  19. That's great information. I've always used an old natural eraser but they can be a bit costly, I like the idea of a rubber sole sneaker. Heck I sometimes see them discarded on the side of the road...(lol) Chris

  45. Lately I have been using a #1 MGB set at 1.5 degrees. I always use 3/8 stock when doing inlays. The angle well vary depending on wood thickness and blade size. I used a #65 drill bit for the entry holes. Using a #3 blade I set my saw a about 1.7 degrees and use a #63 drill bit.

    copyrights

If they do have a license they are legal and have nothing to worry about. If they don't have one they are breaking the law. There is nothing grey about it, the laws are readily available on line to educate yourself. You can keep your eyes closed because you've gotten away with it for 35 years and maybe will till you give it up. Or maybe you cry the blues after your next show. Hopefully I enlightened at least 1 person here, but I am done with this thread.

    Australia Fire Project

I think this is an awesome idea. I encourage folks to participate if you can. It will be a fun challenge to push your sawing skills, and earn some money for a good cause. If you can't, perhaps you can make a donation to help the fire relief. Our friends really need it.
