  1. I love trains and great scenery. I found this copy of a Super Chief advertisement and knew I had to cut it. Pattern by me (using GIMP2). 11x14" Baltic Birch Ply. Pegas 2/0 spiral blades.

Finally got a room cleared out in the garage so I can display everything. Tired of carrying it all to every craft show.... Now, I just gotta figure out a way to get customers.....lol

    Teddy Bears

These are the first pictures I've taken with a new camera. And only the 3rd and 4th projects I've done. I used pine boards, segmented the pattern, and used the water/alcohol stains on them. I have 3 more of these cut out, my husband thinks we've been invaded by Teddies.

  4. Not sure when I'll be able to get back to the SS, gotta a few things to build this week and weekend. Here are yesterdays cuts, unfinished. Will get the wife to finish them over the weekend... I tried to cut this one also, but failed. I think the tabs are too small for me. I had another cut (different animal) with small tabs also and opted not to try my luck Thanks as always for reading +

    Heartknob Pattern

The HeartKnob Here's a little project for Valentine's Day. You might want to make some of these little HeartKnobs for your scroll sawing Heartthrobs. This is for people who might be finding it a little less easy to tighten that little black knob on their Excalibur, Pegas, or Dewalt (the list goes on). Just insert this over the black knob and snug up your blade before cutting. Some people might find this a bit "heart wrenching" but others might use it and take your concern for them "to heart." Your heart might "sink" when a blade breaks, but.... ENOUGH WITH THE HEART JOKES!. Ok. I hope you like this project. I cut mine from 3/4" cherry and rounded the edges on my router -- you might want to do this if you are going to give it as a gift, but it can be cut from just about any wood. Also might have to adjust the size of the insert hole, depending on how close you cut it. You can download the pattern from my Free Pattern Page: http://baggetta.com/pebooks/puzzle_patterns.htm

    new cuts

Finished up a few new ones. The flower and bird on a facet are by Botas Helder, the bird and camera is one by Miltitom and the Big cat is author unknown, could not find the pattern with a designer name on it. Didn't want to credit it to the wrong person. Sorry. Jim

  8. A few things I finished this weekend. Both Steve Good patterns. The Candle holder is 11 inches high and 7 wide, made out of B/B. I haven't put a finish on it yet. Still undecided. The Tic Tac Toes game is made out of walnut and Birch. It's 5 1/2 x 5 1/2.One of the candle holders I'll give to my granddaughter. She has about 30 yankee candles. LOL. One of the Tic Tac Toe games is for one of my teacher friends at school for the kids to play with when they can't go outside.

  10. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," so they say. Well one of the most beautiful creatures of nature is often seen in the summer as they fly from flower to flower. I tried to capture this fleeting spirit in this sign. I cut the sign from 1/4" maple wood and cut the butterflies at an angle on the scroll saw so they would project off the word BEAUTY. I coated the butterflies with a dark stain before reinserting them back into their openings. I then cut a rather winding top layer for the base and mounted the whole shebang on top of a slab of teak to complete the project. Hope you like it. The free pattern is available for download on my Free Pattern Page:http://baggetta.com/pebooks/puzzle_patterns.htm

    Weekend project.

Just finished this sign this weekend. I want to thank Brenda for doing the pattern for me. At the last minute they ask if I could put a heart in place of the & sign so I printed one out and glued it over the & sign and even painted red behind it. Gave it to them this morning and they loved it.

  13. Was asked to cut a memorial pic in wood for a person's best friend who had passed. @TDpainter came through with a great pattern (thanks again Travis) and I cut it on a burl slab so he wouldn't have to frame it. Used the certificate to cover the fellow's name as customer requested. Jeff

  16. Hi Phil. I have the 30th edition Excalibur and it has been my go to saw. Our store is a dealer for the Pegas Scroll Saw. We have one at ArtCrafters as a demo and for classes. After using the saw for several months, it is now my go to saw. I would highly recommend the Pegas Scroll Saw.

  17. Not a fan of the wood on wood. Too close to the same color. Walnut would work well.

  18. I thank everyone who voted and/or commented. The colour Black is the clear winner. In the meantime, I decided that for this, my first 'Double Dragon', to use a natural Zebra- Wood backing: I will be cutting another 'Double Dragon' soon and, for it, I will use a black background.

  20. I just got my flex drum sanders from JGR today. I was looking at them and kept thinking I had seen that foam somewhere before. It sure looks like pool noodle foam to me! I measured them and the diameters of the piece and the hole are identical. 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 inches on the outside and 3/4 inches on the inside. https://www.amazon.com/Fix-Find-Flexible-Colorful-Noodles/dp/B01MDUJKRO/ref=pd_cp_200_2/136-2942046-4338605?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01MDUJKRO&pd_rd_r=66a705d0-c637-486c-a793-a514b8981e1f&pd_rd_w=0DWa7&pd_rd_wg=XBqoA&pf_rd_p=592dc715-8438-4207-b7fa-4c7afdeb6112&pf_rd_r=A48F3R9NH6CD8A9B7M0H&psc=1&refRID=A48F3R9NH6CD8A9B7M0H

    Drifter Pattern

If you have ever been down to the sea and watch the seagulls gliding in the air, you must have wondered where have these magnificent birds been, what adventures they must have experienced. So here's a sign accenting this bird of the sea, the drifter. I cut mine from maple and placed it on the off cut for a base. Pattern is a free download on my Free Pattern Page: http://baggetta.com/pebooks/puzzle_patterns.htm

  22. Two projects finished Monday, January 20th. Both are Steve Good patterns. I cut these on the demo Pegas Scroll Saw. I used Pegas MGT #1, #3, and #7 blades. Picture are deceiving and the "Be Mine" Heart Box is only 1/3/4" x 4" x 4". A tiny box. A little story about the "I Love My Valentine". I made one several years ago and glued the front pierce to the backside of the second piece, so the words are backwards. Dianne still has it on her wall. Good Memories.

  23. Either Pegas or Seyco would be good choices. I have dealt with Ray at Seyco and cust service is very high. As for now I am enjoying my Ex - 21 that is about 5 years old and still working perfectly.

    Crosses

It was mentioned that a Celtic knot that I'd given to my Mom (an early project, still learning my way around my first saw) was too small to be used as a trivet. Makes a good coffee coaster, though. The same conversation, I was asked about crosses as trivets. Easy enough to do, just make em big enough! So, since last weekend was taken up with funeral arrangements/events and no sawing was done, and this coming week is a business trip (no after-work sawdust), I decided to cram as much as possible into one weekend. LOL 1x12 whiteboard from Lowes for most of them, the "round" one is a 1.75" thick piece of battleship armor I believe. That thing was DENSE. Probably a pressure-treated beam, I nabbed several pieces from skids in front of local housing construction a while back. Went through three FDUR #7 blades on that one piece.

  27. My wife agrees with you and, in fact, exactly what she said was: "the dragonflies get lost with that background". I like what I have done and a will put the first 'Double Dragon' my office. I will be making at least one more and will use a contrasting background for it (or them).

    More wedding gifts

I have made several of these now. These two are for my brother's two girls. One got married back in '17 and the other this coming July. I used some crotch Walnut for the bases and Cherry for the top part. It's hard to see in the pics, but the grain on the crotch Walnut is really cool looking.

  30. Usually Zebra wood darkens up quite a lot once it has been in some Danish oil... This looks good.. but I also agree with JT and others.. I do a lot of different wood types with Walnut backers... in fast most are birch ply with walnut... but I've also done a fair amount with Maple, Red Oak, and Cherry... cherry doesn't look as good though... not enough contrast.. Here is a clock made from 1/8 BBply wiith walnut backer... as I said.. I don't like painting wood.. so I use natural wood colors to accent..

  32. Well Frank I liked the tiger wood. Unfortunately I do not always see colors a as others do. I am not totally color blind but do have trouble with getting colors right. Browns are green to me for instance. But because I can make it out and know I am right I like the Black. Thanks for sharing the dragon flies well done.

    Tree of Life

When I saw a youtube video of someone who did a scroll saw tutorial on the tree of life....it convinced me to get into the hobby. So I bought a scroll saw and made this my first project. I decided to attach a photo as well for the background. Also added a white backing so the light would show through a bit. I put the finished tree of life on the window sill.

  39. It's about 31 inches. It was a little tricky manipulating it to make the right cuts but probably one of the most fun projects I've done. Working on the offseason replacement now that I should be able to finish up in a few days. Darn work keeps getting in the way.

  41. I like them all, LOL But can you do a fire sky sunset purple, Over the years of doing different color backers on portraits.. I found that Black almost always wins.. I also had many customers asking for colors I didn't have.. I'm not a big fanatic of keeping hundreds of colors of paint on hand to offer and add to the confusion.. I told my wife a while back that I'm about done with the colors and will offer only Black.. Keeps it simple.. There are a couple of signs etc that I may offer pink or blue for boy or girls room etc.. things like that.. but the rest will most likely be black... I was doing the car portraits different colors.. I got people saying... well... my car is hugger orange or plumb crazy purple can you do the actual car colors.. LOL... That would get kinda annoying to me.. and to get those colors most times would mean buying actual car paints.. ( not cheap )... that's the biggest reason I'm going back to black. This may not matter to you if you're not a seller.. and or just making unique art... but it's so much easier to keep things simple... especially with online selling.. as then you gotta take photos of each color etc etc.. Just not very productive to offer all sorts of options... most times it confuses the customer

  43. Make sure you clean the crud off your shoe soles so you don't "crud up" your sanding sleeves. I did try using my shoe on my sanding mop but when I laid on the floor I couldn't get my foot up high enough to reach my drill press. Too high.

  46. I've been experimenting with doing compound cuts and designing my own figures. You are severely limited on the size of the objects you can produce, but it is fun to experiment. I saw a heart figure which morphs into two lovers kissing, on line, so I thought I'd try making one of those. I didn't have a pattern so I designed my own. It was easy to make the side view, but when I had to do the back/front view I had to experiment. Didn't come out too bad, but might try again with some tweaks. Tried making my dragon (used as part of the pen holder), and same problem occurred. Had to experiment with the back/front view. Well, anyway, I thought I'd pass my findings along. You might find it fun to cut these. If you are not sure how to do these cuts check out my video on cutting vases. I cut my figures from 2 x 4" material cut to 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" about 6" long. Can download patterns from my Free Page: http://baggetta.com/pebooks/puzzle_patterns.htm

    Steve Good box

Steve Good's "Hummingbird" box. Apparently my hummingbird got some bad pollen, it seems to have grown bigger. And angrier. 1/4" BB ply, used #3 (for the dragon) and #7 FDUR blades. Stack cut enough for two boxes, but only put the inner lining in one of them (daughter was fine with an open box).
