  1. Sam has a large number of free patterns on his Facebook page. Many of them are very good and, in particular, I like his optical illusions. A photo of the first one that I attempted is attached: I cut it out of 6mm thick Baltic Birch plywood, backed it with 6mm thick Purple Heart then sprayed a couple of coats of rattle can clear gloss finish. I love the contrasting colours.. This will certainly not be the last of Sam's optical illusion patterns that I utilize.

  2. I loved @Nickel Falls's cutting so I found the image and did my take on it. I made it with the intention of selling it in the fundraiser I'm doing next weekend, but I don't think I can part with it. Reminds me too much of holding my dad's hand during church and marveling at the size and toughness of it. Also my grands are at the age where they hold my little finger too. It's on a piece of 1/2" red oak with a live edge.

    Oval Names

I have been making names like these for about 11 years and I have made hundreds now, they are my number one best seller. I always try to make them from Aussie woods. Theses are made from Spalted Black Heart Sassafras, regular Black Heart Sassafras and I think Tasmanian Black Wood. There are another 7 that I forgot to take photos of. Marg II don't particularly like the way Evie turned out and I offered to make an extra one for them but they said no, they loved it, so who am I to argue.

  4. Just finished scrolling the lid to the box. This is with the pattern removed and laying a piece of red felt. Was at it four hours today, have probably have a little over 12 hours in cutting so far.

  5. I saw this done on Etsy as a paper cutting. I contacted the artist and they directed me to https://depositphotos.com/2596200 to purchase the image. The animals don't pop quit as much as I'd like but such is life huh. The cutting is 3/8" red oak and the frame is made from 3/4 red oak.

    Drifter Pattern

If you have ever been down to the sea and watch the seagulls gliding in the air, you must have wondered where have these magnificent birds been, what adventures they must have experienced. So here's a sign accenting this bird of the sea, the drifter. I cut mine from maple and placed it on the off cut for a base. Pattern is a free download on my Free Pattern Page: http://baggetta.com/pebooks/puzzle_patterns.htm

    Valentine Pattern

Valentine's Day is coming up so here's another nice little sign you might want to make. Might make a nice gift for a car fanatic. I cut mine from 1/4" birch ply and used the off cut for a base, then painted the works with a red claret satin color. Free pattern on my Free Pattern Page: http://baggetta.com/pebooks/puzzle_patterns.htm

  23. I have a EX21 and a Seyco. Both are great saws. My go to saw is the Seyco. If I was where I could test drive a Pegas I sure would give that saw a try. Have heard nothing bad about it yet. Good luck on your decision.

  24. Wow! That's all I can say. Those are some pretty impressive letters for sure. I regularly cut 1 3/4 " and have no problem with my EX21.

  27. Yeah - Ray is located out in Rockwall. He is in a little industrial park off of Mimms Rd. That's where I got my EX-21, when I was out visiting my oldest son in Garland in 2012.

  28. Thanks to all for your help. I live in Dallas so I should be able to test drive a couple of the suggested saws. Vibration and deflection are my main concerns. I used to cut out letters on the scroll and band saw. Literally, I have cut over a million letters in my career. When I got the Excalibur I could stack up to 1 3/4" without any deflection. Remarkable saw. And I could change out letters in seconds. Here is a sample of what I did. These are neither the largest or the smallest letters.

  29. I haven't had much time for any new projects yet.. well that's sort of a lie.. I've been real busy with several custom orders in the last couple weeks.. Mostly fathers day gives.. I ran a paid ad on FB and Instagram and the sales from this 15 day ad has been kicking my behind, LOL Anyway I squeezed a little time to get this clock made just because I thought it was cool.. Hope everyone is enjoying some saw dust making time..

    More wedding gifts

Thank you. Unfortunately I had to re-do the last name on one of them. My SIL informed me that we had the wrong last name on the base of one of them! We do not know my niece's fiance' so we used the name that we found on Facebook. Turns out it wasn't his last name that we saw on FB, it was his middle name! So I had to sand off the name and try again,, it turned out okay the second time around.

  45. Really did not intend this to be a progress thread, but thought I would post that I did make some progress today. This is eating the blades, but I expected that. I have used 6 blades so far. I want to keep going, but the back hurt and eyes are tired. If I don't quit, I will be sorry.
