Interlocking Hearts
Rohn and 8 others reacted to Frank Pellow for a topic
This is a Sue Mey pattern that I completed today. Here is a photo of the end result: I should have looked at the pattern more closely before I purchased it. I had expected to give it to Margaret tomorrow in pieces and then have her connect the interlocking pieces to symbolically join us together then to set the combined hearts on the kitchen windowsill. But, if you closely examine the pieces: you will see that, although they can be joined, they do not really interlock. I guess that Sue expected all the pieces to be glued together and that is what I will, eventually do. But, I like the idea of giving this to Margaret in pieces tomorrow. So, I temporarily attached Velcro strips to the back of the larger pieces. When joined the configuration does stand up. I will leave it that way for Valentine's Day, then glue everything together.9 points -
Be Mine Box

A few days ago @Badgerboy posted some Steve Good Valentine boxes he had made. I really liked them, and decided to make one for my wife. I'm not late, just finished it today. I did mine a little different than the pattern. First I increased the size of the pattern to 140%. Second, in order to save me some time sanding, I changed the way the lid fits on. In the pattern, the lid is attached to an outside wall that fit down over an inside wall that is attached to the bottom. Least that is the way I understood the pattern. Mine is Purple Heart and Oak. What does your shop look like?
amazingkevin and 4 others reacted to cowboyup3371 for a topic
I'm sure this has probably been asked a thousand times but I find it interesting to see where people work out of whether it's for their vehicles or wood projects. If you are willing and as long as it's suitable for work, what does your shop look like? Here's mine. My shop is five miles away from the house in my friend's pole barn where we have the wood shop and I store three of my motorcycles along with his. Until this year, working out there during winter time just really didn't happen much as we didn't have very good heat sources. However, we finally insulated the wood shop area and I bought a torpedo heater which makes it way more comfortable now. I've done more winter time projects this year than any of the previous 7 years I have had access there combined. The wood shop area: Workshop by Scott Baker, on Flickr And where the other half of my fun life lives: My bikes (2007 Suzuki Bandit third from right, my daughter's 1981 Suzuki GS550 in the middle, and my 1981 Suzuki GS550T on the far right); my buddy's 2011/2 Suzuki Boulevard is on the far left Motorcycles in shop by Scott Baker, on Flickr A front view of the entire garage (there's a Camaro sitting to the right out of view here) IMG_5145 by Scott Baker, on Flickr5 points -

What does your shop look like?

Wow, nice shop and nice space. I have a two car garage. First our vehicles were parked there. Then I partitioned off my half of the garage for a workshop. Then there was no longer for both her car and my motorcycle so the car moved out. Then after no longer able to ride two wheels I bought a CanAm and parked it in the garage. Then when I had to sell the CanAm my wife's car somehow took up residence. So now I have this dinky, cramped and barely usable little 8'X14' space to try and function in. Life is difficult at times.3 points -

My shop is an attached two car garage. My wife used to park her car in it but.....over the years of: “hunny, can you make this? And of course my answer was always yes, I can make that but I need to get another tool. That worked to the point of “ hunny, if I get another tool, you won’t be able to park your car in there! So the garage has been a dedicated shop for many years.3 points -

Dewalt 788 Scroll Saw
BroBri and one other reacted to JTTHECLOCKMAN for a topic
OK I saw this the other day and thought of Ray here and others who like to take things apart for maintenance. This has to be the best and most simple video of taking the Dewalt apart for doing maintenance. If you want to do this you need to watch this. Breaks things down to the simplest form. great video. This should be put in the library somewhere or on file somehow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x42jZgEAUwM2 points -

I saw this video on utube the other day and thought of Ray here who said to do maintenance on the Dewalt. This is probably the best video and most simple video I seen explaining what to do. In it it shows the screws you are talking about and they do not look hard to remove. But there is a tube of blue locktight so maybe they were locktight in. Good luck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x42jZgEAUwM2 points -

Here is a link to a topic just like this where others actually posted their shops.. when they was clean maybe? LOL.. My shop was a mess but I took pictures anyway, LOL.. Always figured a clean shop is one where nobody works.. just a hang out place.. I clean up the dust etc.. every day after working... but it still gets dirty etc.. doesn't help when the kids go work in there and don't clean up.. Put my foot down on that one.. they seem to be getting better at cleaning up..2 points -

Dewalt 788 Scroll Saw
Fedido and one other reacted to JTTHECLOCKMAN for a topic
We all have opinions. I have not touched or oiled either of my RBI saws and they are over 20 years old Should I go looking for a problem to head it off and then try dealing with RBI again.??? Same goes for my Hegner. Not an ounce of grease or oil. I believe these saws have sealed bearings anyway. I have a ton of machinery in my shop that has bearings and what not. When it breaks I will fix it. But with that said there are videos on the net that show how to tear down the Dewalt saw and rip it apart and if you are handy get it back together too. I think someone even posted the videos here.2 points -

I completely disagree. That's the same thinking that causes people to suddenly find a dead battery. Maintenance BEFORE failure is my motto.2 points

Pegas #3 MG Blades
lawson56 reacted to scrollingforsanity for a topic
The Pegas factory has changed the Pegas MG #3 blades. I have been using these blades for quite some time. Went through at least 6 gross of them and this is my go to blade. Yesterday I used up the last of my old stock of MG #3 and broke out my new ones I purchased late last fall. Right away I could tell something was different. It was cutting different and felt different when pushing the piece into the saw. I know it sounds strange but it made the saw nosier and felt more vibration in the piece I was cutting Not what I was used to. I stopped and called Richard at QTE and explained to him. He gave me the Pegas rep's number. I texted him pictures and explanations of my issues. He said they needed to get them back right away and see what was wrong. He said he was having a meeting today with Pegas and would get back to me. He called and said the factory changed the manufacturing of the blades and did not inform the rep's or suppliers. The old stock had 27 regular teeth and 10 reverse teeth. The new ones have 33 teeth and 10 reverse. The new ones have a notch in one or both ends of the blade. They said they do that now and just snap the blades off at the notch now in the manufacturing process. The new ones are also supposed to last longer and minimize tear out on the bottom of your work. I used a dozen today cutting five layers of 1/8 in Baltic birch as usual and they neither lasted longer nor reduced tear out for me anyway. If a person has not used many of the blades they will probably not notice any difference. I am sure I will get used to the new ones as that is what there is available, but much prefer the old style. The rep suggested I use a #1 MG blade, I have tried those and they are to flimsy for me. These are just my observations and I am done ranting for now.1 point -

I never really use this word, but the first time I saw this car, I was enthralled! It has an interesting history. The car has a 1953 Model 62 Cadillac chassis and the body was designed and built by custom coach builder, Ghia of Italy. It had a V-8 390 ci engine and weight over 4,400 lbs! The most interesting part is that only two were made and one belonged to the actress, Rita Hayworth. There are assorted articles and photos online about this car. As usual, the design took longer that the cutting. I did have to do some design changes on the fly while cutting and painted in the bridges on the tires and headlight enclosure. The Caddy emblem on the hood was getting a little fragile, so I took out some of the cuts. It was a fun and challenging cut. On to another project.1 point

Two things that sometimes work: 1. Take a flat end punch the size of the screw head, & whack it with a hammer ("forcing it in further"), sometimes this helps break the bond. 2. If it's not a torx head, clamp the screwdriver shaft with a vice grip. Simultaneously hit the end of the screwdriver with a hammer & turn the screwdriver with the vice grip. This keeps you from slipping & rounding out the head of the screw. jerry1 point

Nope.. only sealed bearing in the Hawks I have is the ones in the rocker shaft ( the flat steel bar that connects the lower arm to the motor ) The bearings in the arms at the back of the saw is a open cage bearing.. also the bearings on / in the motor are sealed.. Yes I took the motor apart before too.. They're built like a tank and will last a lifetime... apparently even if you don't oil them as the manual says to do.. LOL Not really something I'd tell everyone if I didn't ever oil my machine... but I'm glad you mentioned it because now we all know just how well they're built.. Bad part about Hawk is.. you can't get through to them to get parts if / when you need them..1 point
