    Be Mine Box

A few days ago @Badgerboy posted some Steve Good Valentine boxes he had made. I really liked them, and decided to make one for my wife. I'm not late, just finished it today. I did mine a little different than the pattern. First I increased the size of the pattern to 140%. Second, in order to save me some time sanding, I changed the way the lid fits on. In the pattern, the lid is attached to an outside wall that fit down over an inside wall that is attached to the bottom. Least that is the way I understood the pattern. Mine is Purple Heart and Oak. The wife seemed to like...

  6. Scroll work for my wife and daughters (21 and 18). The basket is one of Steve Good's patterns while both of the animals are out of a Pattern book I bought from Woodcraft. Although the horse was very challenging and not perfect, I think the tiger was the hardest for me. But they seem to like them. Cut from red oak and used the Danish oil Natural finish on them. Interlocking Hearts

This is a Sue Mey pattern that I completed today. Here is a photo of the end result: I should have looked at the pattern more closely before I purchased it. I had expected to give it to Margaret tomorrow in pieces and then have her connect the interlocking pieces to symbolically join us together then to set the combined hearts on the kitchen windowsill. But, if you closely examine the pieces: you will see that, although they can be joined, they do not really interlock. I guess that Sue expected all the pieces to be glued together and that is what I will, eventually do. But, I like the idea of giving this to Margaret in pieces tomorrow. So, I temporarily attached Velcro strips to the back of the larger pieces. When joined the configuration does stand up. I will leave it that way for Valentine's Day, then glue everything together.

    Segmented rose

I got this from Steve Good's site. I used plywood, wood stain, diluted metallic acrylics and some irridescent paint medium with a satin finish. I had some issues with the blade at first and messed up my circles and I used way too big of a drill bit to make the entry hole. This is the most complicated one so far. I enjoyed making it and gave it to my husband for valentine's day. I'm also adding a picture of Buddy my shop doggie.

  14. IKE I do not want to be the downer here but you need to read the entire thread or just keep up. He bought the saw already and this a done deal so we need to encourage him. The last question was about maintenance on the Dewalt. That is where the discussion on weather to take apart and how easy. The Dewalt is a good saw for sure. Needs attention at times.

  15. What is really sad was after being in my friend's place after 4 years I actually cleaned my workbench in front of the bikes (taken in 2018) Cleaned Up Workbench by Scott Baker, on Flickr too bad it only lasted maybe 4 days and devolved to what you can see above

  16. Thank you for linking to that. That also explains why I didn't see it - my search terms weren't working (pictures of shop) so I didn't find it. I love what pictures are here so far and thank you all for sharing them.

On top of that!--It took some thinking to get the shadows to look REAL and it turned out excellent! SAWDUST making is much better than watching TV anyway!

The fact that you changed it to Nanny's made it even nicer for me. Sort of reminds me of when I was a kid in England growing up and Nanny would make biscuits. Used to love them. Thanks for sharing this great gutting Tony

    screw removal

Two things that sometimes work: 1. Take a flat end punch the size of the screw head, & whack it with a hammer ("forcing it in further"), sometimes this helps break the bond. 2. If it's not a torx head, clamp the screwdriver shaft with a vice grip. Simultaneously hit the end of the screwdriver with a hammer & turn the screwdriver with the vice grip. This keeps you from slipping & rounding out the head of the screw. jerry

  38. I was just asked by my son yesterday if I had a couple pictures of my messy shop. I sent these to him. I agree with Karl! Mine is actually in my basement, about the size of a one car garage. I love it, has outside door, restroom, close by computer/TV room, close by refrig.... temp controlled year around,,,,,,, sexy calendar on the wall,,,,,, and my wife wants to move!!!@!

  42. Here is a link to a topic just like this where others actually posted their shops.. when they was clean maybe? LOL.. My shop was a mess but I took pictures anyway, LOL.. Always figured a clean shop is one where nobody works.. just a hang out place.. I clean up the dust etc.. every day after working... but it still gets dirty etc.. doesn't help when the kids go work in there and don't clean up.. Put my foot down on that one.. they seem to be getting better at cleaning up..

  43. Looks different now.. because I've bought a new Hawk, CNC Router, and a Laser since this photo was taken... I've re-arranged it and now it's more cramped because of more tools.. and project cars LOL..

  44. If you use PBBlaster.. I'd make sure the saw is unplugged.. There is wires running from the power switch etc in that cover.. I'd also cover up the table of the saw to keep the oil from getting on it and then getting onto the next project you cut.. My Excalibur has hex head screws and requires an allen wrench to remove it.. and they was tight the first time removing them.. once broke loose they spun right out with my fingers so they wasn't really rusty or anything.. just tight, LOL.. BTW.. about the only thing that was tight on the saw too..

  48. My shop is an attached two car garage. My wife used to park her car in it but.....over the years of: “hunny, can you make this? And of course my answer was always yes, I can make that but I need to get another tool. That worked to the point of “ hunny, if I get another tool, you won’t be able to park your car in there! So the garage has been a dedicated shop for many years.
