  2. i haven't been on this site in awhile, but i had to show off the largest project i've done to date! almost 24" x 36". i had to do it in 4 sections and then put them all together because it was that big. Very proud of this. my only regret is that i'm no artist when it comes to painting.

    Willie nice portrait

Don't know whose pattern this is but it looks really lifelike for the small amount of detail. I've been a Willie fan for over 40 years. This is about 4" x 5" on 1/2" red oak. The backer is Monkeypod.

    Segmented rose

I got this from Steve Good's site. I used plywood, wood stain, diluted metallic acrylics and some irridescent paint medium with a satin finish. I had some issues with the blade at first and messed up my circles and I used way too big of a drill bit to make the entry hole. This is the most complicated one so far. I enjoyed making it and gave it to my husband for valentine's day. I'm also adding a picture of Buddy my shop doggie.

  6. I'm fortunate in that my shop is just downstairs in my basement. Unfortunately my house is heated with electric so there is zero warmth in the basement, so I had to have an electric heater installed. Takes a while to warm up on those cold New England mornings, but in the summer it is like free air conditioning since it stays nice and cool even on the hottest summer days. Here's a picture of it after a clean up.

    Wolf Dreamcatcher

Pattern by @grampa from our Pattern Library. Looking forward to cutting many more of his patterns!!! Stack-cut two at once, and imported the pattern into Inkscape to do a bit of dynamic offset to create a backer for the piece. They're stained and currently drying in the garage (my wife gave me a long-suffering look as I wandered out into the garage at 11:30pm to do some final 320-grit sanding and staining). Wolf-dreamcatchers were cut out of 3/8" BB ply (I believe....found a couple of scrap pieces that were large enough so I didn't break into a fresh sheet) and stained with Minwax "Classic Grey" (heh....grey wolves?), backers are 1" whiteboard from Lowes and stained with Minwax "Honey". REALLY looking forward to putting them together tomorrow!!!! Well...later today, I guess.

    Dalmatian inlay

I made this cedar box with a Dalmatian inlayed into the hinged lid. Box measures 8"x6"x2". Maple inlaid into cedar with black, chalk line chalk, mixed in white glue for the spots. This is a special order for a relative.

  9. Sasho contributed the pattern for this to our library about a year ago. To me, it's both sad and happy at the same it. I immediately cut it, but only this week got around to framing 'Life' and it now hangs over my desk. The foreground, the background, and the frame are all quarter-sawn white oak.

  13. If its a small crack or hole I do the same as Dan but I use wood glue. fill the crack/hole with wood glue and sand over it with my orbital sander and it makes it blend in.

  15. I gave up using glue and saw dust due to finishing issues. I use Timbermate to fill wood areas and it takes stain and finished well.

  16. I haven’t had to do it often, but when I do, this is how I do it if the project allows. I actually fill the void with Aleen’s tacky glue then sand the area with sand paper or my Random orbital sander until the void disappears. The sanding dust from the sanding operation settles on top of the glue so you have real wood filling the void. This works very well if the project allows you to sand.

  17. you might try mixing it with lacquer or ca glue.I used to use lacquer stick when refinishing cabinets. the stuff is in sticks that you light and drop into the dnet. It sands great and does not show when sanded.

    Dream Catchers

Two dream catchers, patterns by Sue Mey. The Bear is 3/4” Sapele and the Eagle is 3/4” Cherry. The feathers are all different colored hardwoods, no stains. Yellowheart, Purpleheart, Walnut, Maple, Red Oak and Red Cedar which is a soft wood. Cut using my DeWALT saw and FD UR #3 and 5 blades. The finish is a soak in 50/50 mix of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits. Then topcoated with Deft semi gloss spray lacquer.

  20. This week, I started and completed 'Bee on a Comb: It is a companion piece for 'Double Dragon" -see As with all of Fiona's patterns I have utilized, I cut this out of thick (almost 1 inch) Spalted Maple. For reasons that I don't understand, not all my cut swere at a perfect 90 degrees. If one looks closely at the back of the cut piece, this is obvious: I had thought about hanging this n a window with no backing but, because the cuts are not perfect, I decided not to do this. The imperfections are hard to detect once a backing is glued to the piece. I tried various veneers as a backing: and chose #6 which, I think, is Elm. I sandwiched the veneer between the cut piece and 3mm thick Baltic Birch plywood, glued all the together, the cut out a circle on my scroll-saw: I then sprayed everything with clear semi-gloss "rattle can" stuff, attached a brass plaque and hung it on our bedroom wall beside 'Double Dragon':

    Keeper of the time

I love this one. I did it a couple years ago, not as pretty of a job as you have done. I had the dragon holding a glass ball. Not sure why, but it seemed appropriate at the time. You really did a great job on yours...

Buddy is a Dollar Store Dog. Got him at the Dollar Store. I went there one night and he was standing in the auto doors and irritating the people that worked there. He'd been hanging around there for a week and was starving to death. Poor guy's ribs were literally sticking out. I brought him home, my husband and I had been wanting a dog anyway. We've had him for about 2 months now, he's enjoying all the food and pets and running around on 1.5 acres of fenced in property. I love this pup and so does my husband. Spoiled!!!

  39. LOL that's my shop pre Hurricane Michael. I'm also in the process of redoing the entire layout so I'll post again when I get closer to being done. That work bench where the scroll saw sits is no longer. It's now a bunch of shelves for the permanent bench and the new scroll saw bench

  46. Thanks planeur I normally use a 1 mm drill bit, which is a pretty decent sized hole for me, but on some of the things I cut when it gets really detailed I go down to 0.4 mm to give me as small an entry hole as possible. I only use that drill bit when scaling down to a 0/2 blade instead of a size 2. Here is a pic of the drill I use, you see I have a thing against power tools when doing my fret work. I try to keep it as old school as possible. It is set up with a 1 mm bit at the moment. Cheers and have a good one Tony

Thanks to Granpa for the pattern. Cut from 1/8" BB one up, I didn't need more than one. Cut with #1 Pegas MG. I will not put a finish or frame on it. I have no room to hang it and know of no one who wants it so I will stack it up with everything else. It was fun to cut.
