    Keeper of the time

This is the second one I have cut as the first one was sold. Pattern by the late great Dirk Boleman. 240 inside cuts using FD UR #3 and 5 blades cutting on a DeWALT saw. 5/8” Red Oak with a Mahogany Base. 16” long x 10” high.

  2. Pattern by Judy Peterson. Cut from 1” Hard Maple. The Base is 5/8” Mahogany. The pole is 3/16” brass rod topped with a maple ball. Used FD UR #3 blades.

    Dream Catchers

Two dream catchers, patterns by Sue Mey. The Bear is 3/4” Sapele and the Eagle is 3/4” Cherry. The feathers are all different colored hardwoods, no stains. Yellowheart, Purpleheart, Walnut, Maple, Red Oak and Red Cedar which is a soft wood. Cut using my DeWALT saw and FD UR #3 and 5 blades. The finish is a soak in 50/50 mix of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits. Then topcoated with Deft semi gloss spray lacquer.

  4. This week, I started and completed 'Bee on a Comb: It is a companion piece for 'Double Dragon" -see As with all of Fiona's patterns I have utilized, I cut this out of thick (almost 1 inch) Spalted Maple. For reasons that I don't understand, not all my cut swere at a perfect 90 degrees. If one looks closely at the back of the cut piece, this is obvious: I had thought about hanging this n a window with no backing but, because the cuts are not perfect, I decided not to do this. The imperfections are hard to detect once a backing is glued to the piece. I tried various veneers as a backing: and chose #6 which, I think, is Elm. I sandwiched the veneer between the cut piece and 3mm thick Baltic Birch plywood, glued all the together, the cut out a circle on my scroll-saw: I then sprayed everything with clear semi-gloss "rattle can" stuff, attached a brass plaque and hung it on our bedroom wall beside 'Double Dragon':

  5. Sasho contributed the pattern for this to our library about a year ago. To me, it's both sad and happy at the same it. I immediately cut it, but only this week got around to framing 'Life' and it now hangs over my desk. The foreground, the background, and the frame are all quarter-sawn white oak.

    key plaque

We have a cousin who ask for a plaque to hold her keys. We looked at possible patterns, to see what she had in mind and she found the light wood pattern on Steve Goods page, so i told her I could cut it and glue it on a backer board. She agreed and this is what we came up with. the mark on the lower left corner does not exist on the plaque. It must have been a shadow or some reflection Dick heppnerguy

    Segmented whale

This is an intarsia pattern from JGR, a free one. I used plywood, watered down copper metallic paint and watered down off white acrylic. There are only 7 pieces to this. My dorsal fin broke because of a void in the wood and I had to glue it back together.

  8. Not been able to get to my saw for the last couple of weeks. Was on my own today so I did an easy one, just to cheer me up. No finish on it yet, I've to decide whether to have it backed black or brown.

    Wolf Dreamcatcher

Pattern by @grampa from our Pattern Library. Looking forward to cutting many more of his patterns!!! Stack-cut two at once, and imported the pattern into Inkscape to do a bit of dynamic offset to create a backer for the piece. They're stained and currently drying in the garage (my wife gave me a long-suffering look as I wandered out into the garage at 11:30pm to do some final 320-grit sanding and staining). Wolf-dreamcatchers were cut out of 3/8" BB ply (I believe....found a couple of scrap pieces that were large enough so I didn't break into a fresh sheet) and stained with Minwax "Classic Grey" (heh....grey wolves?), backers are 1" whiteboard from Lowes and stained with Minwax "Honey". REALLY looking forward to putting them together tomorrow!!!! Well...later today, I guess.

    Saturday Work

All, I have been told here repeatedly to show off my work. It is a new concept for me, but here it goes. The Bottom one is pretty straight forward. The top one was designed by my wife and I as we used her Crickcut machine. We are both learning that beast. Hope you guys enjoy it. By the way, has anyone worked with Purpleheart? That will be my next challenge. Hendo P.S. I have no idea why my photos turn to the side.

    Willie nice portrait

Don't know whose pattern this is but it looks really lifelike for the small amount of detail. I've been a Willie fan for over 40 years. This is about 4" x 5" on 1/2" red oak. The backer is Monkeypod.

  16. It is true that Pegas doesn't offer a 16" saw in the US currently. They do have a 16" model, the SCP16CE which they sell in many countries. Bob Duncan, the Pegas (Grobet USA) National Sales Manager, indicated that they are trying to get the rights to sell this saw in the US, so I am hopeful.

  17. You mean a Pegas 21" saw? Pegas only offers a 21" saw..

  18. The one issue I have found with MDF core plywood is when used for fine detail fretwork thin bridges are more fragile and easily broken than Baltic Birch.

  25. I'm fortunate in that my shop is just downstairs in my basement. Unfortunately my house is heated with electric so there is zero warmth in the basement, so I had to have an electric heater installed. Takes a while to warm up on those cold New England mornings, but in the summer it is like free air conditioning since it stays nice and cool even on the hottest summer days. Here's a picture of it after a clean up.

  26. Yes 1984 300ZX It's my sons project car as is the Blazer on the other side... and the 3 First Gen Dodge Cummins trucks out in my yard, LOL.. He's a young dreamer of having a million cars.. Got a lot of work to restore all of them. LOL.. He is actually selling the Z and I might be the buyer.. I kinda like that little car.. I like the older 240 thru 280 Z's better..but this is a nice one that we still have the original owners title... just under 100,000 miles on it too.. Biggest issue with the car is it sat a lot of years in florida. and the mice made it a very large hotel for quit a few years.. and because of that.. the interior is junk.. as is some of the wiring.. we've repaired most of the wiring and had it running.. Runs awesome..

  27. I'm sure this has probably been asked a thousand times but I find it interesting to see where people work out of whether it's for their vehicles or wood projects. If you are willing and as long as it's suitable for work, what does your shop look like? Here's mine. My shop is five miles away from the house in my friend's pole barn where we have the wood shop and I store three of my motorcycles along with his. Until this year, working out there during winter time just really didn't happen much as we didn't have very good heat sources. However, we finally insulated the wood shop area and I bought a torpedo heater which makes it way more comfortable now. I've done more winter time projects this year than any of the previous 7 years I have had access there combined. The wood shop area: Workshop by Scott Baker, on Flickr And where the other half of my fun life lives: My bikes (2007 Suzuki Bandit third from right, my daughter's 1981 Suzuki GS550 in the middle, and my 1981 Suzuki GS550T on the far right); my buddy's 2011/2 Suzuki Boulevard is on the far left Motorcycles in shop by Scott Baker, on Flickr A front view of the entire garage (there's a Camaro sitting to the right out of view here) IMG_5145 by Scott Baker, on Flickr

  32. Hi Alan, I hope this is of some value. I have been watching with no actual interest, a couple of old EX 19's on C/L and Facebook marketplace. Both have been offered for $400 and have been listed for a long time. Meaning more than a month. Actually more like 3 months. No action. I think anybody who knows about Excalibur saws probably already have some knowledge of the early saws and that parts are not available in most cases. So, if you really want to sell your saw quickly, I'd have to say put your price at less than $200. I'd be very surprised if you get $100 for it. Sorry. Sometimes you just have to go the "donation" route and write it off.

  41. Very, very nice work, Frank, With work that thick, it would be very hard not to put side pressure on the blade as you are cutting. Also, the blade has to be square to the table and the thicker the wood, the more any minute discrepancies in square will show up. You are much more critical of your cuttings than anyone else would ever be. Those are excellent projects and you can be proud of them. God Bless! Spirithorse

    Action Tape

Take a look at: store.workshopsupply.com They have an 8-1/2" X 20' two sided tape made for scrolling for $19.95 CDN. There is a great review of the product there. Lots of other good stuff there too. I'm thinking about ordering some and eliminate some of the messy spray adhesive.
