  1. 3/4"plywood,Still needs a stiff wire to suspend the sky diver over the name. My friend says make this, this way and he will have the girl leave it on her desk.she has over 600 skydivers pass her desk. This could be the goose that layed the golden egg for me.perfect timing! How much do you think I should charge for one???

  3. Hi, Y'all! Some clever members advised me to post a pic from my gallery here to help get you to go there when you click the link <whew!>. Anyway, here's a train/shelf pattern from Wildwood Designs that was a lot of fun to cut. Working on several others with contrasting wood, but this was my first. Thanks to all the members for their clever advice, inspiration, and way-too-kind words of praise. Glad I found this organization!!

  5. Your right Ray. I would have thunk that any one that would have a cow turd pattern would be the Rocky Man!!!!! Would need to be cut from the just the right aromatic wood.

  6. Sasho contributed the pattern for this to our library about a year ago. To me, it's both sad and happy at the same it. I immediately cut it, but only this week got around to framing 'Life' and it now hangs over my desk. The foreground, the background, and the frame are all quarter-sawn white oak.

    Hello from Ohio

I'm Scott from NE Ohio. I sort of came upon scrolling by chance. My wife saw a DeWalt listed in the newspaper and asked me if it was something I might be interested in. I ended up calling about it and brought it home. The gentleman that sold it to me showed me some incredible work that he had done. So, more projects to be done! I look forward to learning from all of you as I get my new endeavor underway! My first 2 efforts are going to be for my grandsons. It's a learning curve for sure! Looking forward to watching and learning from the craftsmen and women on this board!

  9. @octoolguy, if you do buy this, why not try to find out the name of the builder. Be nice to know a little about him, he may have been a past member here.

  10. That style of work will not work in the majority of the homes in my area. I have cut lots of things like this mostly as a test cutter, none of it will ever hang in my house. I am 71 but more modern designs appeal to my wife's and my taste. People in my area will pay thousands of dollars for a few strips of toilet paper with paint dribbled on it. I am serious about that. Intarsia and contemporary wood furniture also sells. Check out this web site that sells work by a local artist Dave Ebner who will be giving me his cutoffs. https://www.incollect.com/artists/david-ebner I have several friends that have one of his Scallion coat racks in their houses. One of those friends also has several pieces of his furniture. Not in my budget.

    Screech Owl

The pattern is by Jacob Fowler. I used 1/2" Poplar and 3/4" Padauk for the base. It was cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using #3R and #5R MGT blades. The finish is spray Shellac. Comments welcome.

    Willie nice portrait

Don't know whose pattern this is but it looks really lifelike for the small amount of detail. I've been a Willie fan for over 40 years. This is about 4" x 5" on 1/2" red oak. The backer is Monkeypod.

  16. Not been able to get to my saw for the last couple of weeks. Was on my own today so I did an easy one, just to cheer me up. No finish on it yet, I've to decide whether to have it backed black or brown.

  23. Just in case there is some confusion the pattern for this clock is on CherryTree site, not Berry Basket, and Berry Basket if really Scrollsaw.com

  24. Yes they are.. but not even half of the patterns are on their site.. and not sure how it is now.. but whoever was running it never responded to any questions or messages etc.. not sure if they even follow through with the order once you buy something.. There was some issues with them.. maybe that has been taken care of now?

  28. Well I'm disappointed.. my set of patterns I bought years ago doesn't have a clock with that name.. I didn't go through and look at each individual designs so maybe it's under a different name.. or somewhere in this 1800 pattern set that I bought years ago.. It's kinda cumbersome to look through them as I have to open up each file and scroll though the hundreds of designs.. LOL.. There seems to be about 10 large clock patterns of this nature though..

  29. I'm just going by what is said in the description at Cherry Tree. They have some neat looking clocks there. But after the one I am working on now, I don't know. Hard to clamp things at all the different angles some of these clock have. I have go to figure out some better clamps for making these things.

    Propane Heater Safety

There has not been much attention devoted to insulation on this thread - but I would suggest that insulation is everything when it comes to efficiently and effectively heating your workshop - I would further suggest that if anyone has an expectation of 4 season use of your workshop then you absolutely must consider insulation - it will benefit both your winter and your summer operation by minimizing your heating (and cooling) costs. And as far as heating is concerned air-borne dust and open flame do not mix well - after living in communities with lumber mills I've grown to realize that when the conditions are right for a dust explosion it happens - there is no forgiveness - stuff goes boom - it causes damage - people can get hurt - end of story. Having said that I've had (dusty) workshops with open flame heating in 3 of my workshops over time - (close to 50 years) without incident - but no more - today my workshop is heated by a natural gas overhead furnace that is self-contained - it draws its fresh air from the outside - the flame of the furnace is not accessible to any workshop dust at all - and I feel a lot better for it. Should also add - my current and my former workshop are both well-insulated (I live in Canada - a no-insulation workshop is not an option) - both are roughly about the size of a 1 1/2 car garage - and both can be comfortably heated (18C or 64F) with plug-in electric heaters if needed - (the gas furnaces - like any other appliance - have had their down time ....). I absolutely would not use a kerosene or gas-heater if I were making serious dust (or spraying). Jay

  34. I very much agree with this..Me being a seller though, and not a hobby seller. I find that hard to do. The stuff I make helps put food in my kids mouths.. etc etc.. so it's not worthy for me to make something of this nature.. I get a kick out of folks saying they are just hobby scrollers then they get mad when someone tries to bargain with them at a craft show or they can't get squat or their items... wasn't the purpose of the hobby and hobby selling to get rid of the things you make.. and to mingle with the other sellers and customers..

  37. It's long been a dream of mine to build some of the classic, big fretwork clocks, like the Apostles clock or the Chimes of Normandy clock. As time goes by and I don't get around to it, I can't escape the question of what in the world would I do with such a thing. I don't have room for one and neither do my kids. That isn't something you just make to sell, unless it's for a commission job, which I doubt ever happens. Certainly not something you could ever sell at the local craft fair.

    Dream Catchers

Two dream catchers, patterns by Sue Mey. The Bear is 3/4” Sapele and the Eagle is 3/4” Cherry. The feathers are all different colored hardwoods, no stains. Yellowheart, Purpleheart, Walnut, Maple, Red Oak and Red Cedar which is a soft wood. Cut using my DeWALT saw and FD UR #3 and 5 blades. The finish is a soak in 50/50 mix of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits. Then topcoated with Deft semi gloss spray lacquer.

    key plaque

We have a cousin who ask for a plaque to hold her keys. We looked at possible patterns, to see what she had in mind and she found the light wood pattern on Steve Goods page, so i told her I could cut it and glue it on a backer board. She agreed and this is what we came up with. the mark on the lower left corner does not exist on the plaque. It must have been a shadow or some reflection Dick heppnerguy

    Wolf Dreamcatcher

Pattern by @grampa from our Pattern Library. Looking forward to cutting many more of his patterns!!! Stack-cut two at once, and imported the pattern into Inkscape to do a bit of dynamic offset to create a backer for the piece. They're stained and currently drying in the garage (my wife gave me a long-suffering look as I wandered out into the garage at 11:30pm to do some final 320-grit sanding and staining). Wolf-dreamcatchers were cut out of 3/8" BB ply (I believe....found a couple of scrap pieces that were large enough so I didn't break into a fresh sheet) and stained with Minwax "Classic Grey" (heh....grey wolves?), backers are 1" whiteboard from Lowes and stained with Minwax "Honey". REALLY looking forward to putting them together tomorrow!!!! Well...later today, I guess.

    Interlocking Hearts

This is a Sue Mey pattern that I completed today. Here is a photo of the end result: I should have looked at the pattern more closely before I purchased it. I had expected to give it to Margaret tomorrow in pieces and then have her connect the interlocking pieces to symbolically join us together then to set the combined hearts on the kitchen windowsill. But, if you closely examine the pieces: you will see that, although they can be joined, they do not really interlock. I guess that Sue expected all the pieces to be glued together and that is what I will, eventually do. But, I like the idea of giving this to Margaret in pieces tomorrow. So, I temporarily attached Velcro strips to the back of the larger pieces. When joined the configuration does stand up. I will leave it that way for Valentine's Day, then glue everything together.
