  1. Back in the scrollsaw seat again cutting some dog portraits for a friend. Thanks to Multitom for lending me a hand letting me use his golden retriever pattern.Very well done pattern so all I had to do was make one pattern of the bulldog.Im sure my friend will enjoy the portraits for years to come.

    First 3D

Tried my first 3D cut tonight and learned a great deal for next time. A very nice Steve Good pattern. I did not use a 3D block jig. I found it a fun experiment.

  4. For those who get Steve Goods emails you know that he is having a contest for $100 from Bear Woods. This is my entry from the land of the beaver. I will probably get disqualified as I did not follow the rules exactly but this was fun to do.

    Map of the world

I know this flat earth map won't be everyone's cup of tea but this is the map I cut for my hall way once I paint it and sneak it into the house, then get it on the wall before my better half see's it Gordon

  6. Another pattern from the library, posted by Grampa. Started cutting this one this past week, a couple of hours here and there in the evenings after work, and between honeydoo's on the weekend (wife went to bed early last night, so yeah, I was out in the garage after midnight, until I couldn't see which blurry hole I was threading the blade through). 3/8" BB ply, I think these were left over from the multi-layered dragon project I did before Christmas. Regardless, the pieces were big enough that I didn't need to cut them down any. Love it when stuff works out like that!!! All stains are Minwax: backer is "Ebony", eyes are "classic grey" and tiger is "gunstock". Frame (yay.) comes tomorrow.

  8. you asked for pictures so here goes. now remember I' do easy things so be kind. lol The first one is a squarll ( I work in wood don't ask me to spell to! !) my younger cousin lives in California and someone told me they don't have squarlls there so I figured I d send her one. lol the second one is a clown lamp I made for a coworker years ago. then we have the lucet. you use it with yarn to make bets and such. I made several of these...one for each of my daughters and me and the craft box.lol I made the bag it goes in to.im real big on recycling thus the cow planter, candy dish or what ever. lol I got the patterns for the layered animals from the winterfiels colloction and I make all kinds of things with them.another thing I make with them are banks and pin cousions with a storage airea well somewhere I have a picture of the mouse pin cousin opened but I can't find it right now.lol to open it you just side the hind end up over. theres a dowl pin in the body and the back legs part. my mom asked me to make her a go away sign so that's the last picture. let me know if you wan to see any more.

  9. Another vote for the Dust Deputy. I use it in my shop for all my power tools; router table, bandsaw, table saw etc.. The only thing I don’t use it for is my scrollsaw but I have the seyco unit which includes a cyclone.

    Dust Separator???

I can’t speak of these Knok-offs but I have a Dust Deputy that I use solely for my random orbital sander. Every project I cut gets sanded by my ROS so it gets used almost daily. I only have to clean the vac filter once a year weather it needs it or not!

  12. Hey, Just thought being new to Scrolling, I would share an experience I have had with blades. I have been using Olson blades, .053 think for 1/2 oak and Pine. They are the only ones I can get locally. I finally exhausted those supplies and moved onto Flying Dutchman blades. I went with number 7's and put my first one into oak. in about 7.7 seconds, the first one broke. I figured I would give another one a try since I don't trust the operator and it has been cutting awesomely. Stays sharper longer too. I only share this for new scrollers as the experts already know this. I hope this helps at least one person. Hendo

    Dust Separator???

Kevin, yes the seyco cyclone is smaller and uses smaller diameter hoses. I have had my DD for 20+ years but it is very similar to one of their current versions here: https://www.oneida-air.com/dust-deputy/10-gallon-dust-deputy-deluxe-cyclone-separator-kit It was not that expensive way back when and I chose the metal barrel because as I said I use it on my router table and larger other tools the create bigger chips and sawdust volume. It does a great job of keeping my vacuum filter clean.

  14. The older I got, the smarter my parents were. I miss them and their wisdom dearly.
    2 points
  15. Yeah, my family was full of old wisdoms(?) My dad would say "listen to your elders, you may learn something" Then my mother would add "Just remember, Mike. There's a reason for the old saying "there's no fool like an old fool". I spent a lot of my youth looking off into the distance wondering "What????"

  16. Which FD blade did you use? Polar, Reverse, Ultra Reverse?? They all cut differently. I use FD Polar #5 on oak up to 3/4" with no problems . The key with blades is to find one that works for you and your saw and cutting style.
    2 points
  17. I have had a difference experience. I have found that Olsen PG #7 or #5 blades outlast Flying Dutchman blades. I am cutting 3/4" pine, mostly making 3d figures. Pegas blades seem to last longer than Flying Dutchman blades also.

Hi Don: Looks like a winner to me If you do get disqualified send it to them anyway and tell them "Keep the change, you filthy animal" Now you have to make the rest of the coins so you have a complete set including the long lost penny Fab4

  20. My step dad always told to never forget that no matter how smart I get, there will always be a lot more that I don't know, than I do know.

  21. I bought it mostly out of curiosity to see what kind of power it has. As for a switch, I'll just put a triple outlet on my foot switch that will trigger both the saw & the vac at the same time. And if it turns out to not be the do all end all, I'll just sell it on c/l. I might try my hand at making a cyclone out of a 3 lb. coffee can. No matter what, I'll be smarter when I'm done than I am now. Lol.

  23. I thought the 5 gallon would be way to much volume for the amount of cutting. I was looking for something smaller. Also saw all kinds of YouTube videos. Knowing me, on some things I would just rather buy than reinvent!

  24. There was a bunch of negative reviews after the one that Steve Good originally did. One of the reasons I didn't go with the scrollnado
    2 points
  25. Yes, I want a pretty, red, Pegas saw. Is that wrong? I could get the King or Seyco saws, which are almost the same saw, but they aren't as pretty (and the Pegas has better blade clamps). I have heard negative things about the Chinese-made Excalibur saws, so they aren't an option either. Come to think of it, maybe I should just keep my old Excalibur saw and invest in a can of red spray paint, if that is important to me

    Dust Separator???

I read the reviews and most folks said they worked. A few almost always find fault with everything so I toss most of them out. The DD works great and so does the H/D Dustopper that fits on a 5 gallon bucket. A lower profile is what I like about that one. I have both and they both work great.

  30. I'll be painting/staining these tomorrow. The patterns came from JGR. I'm cutting all her free intarsia patterns. I had the snowman for weeks and didn't even want to try to cut out the owl, the nose is the size of a baby's little fingernail. There are plenty of things I did wrong on these. I did 2 Santa Bears. All are 1/2 inch plywood. I'm not sure if I should paint them where the grain doesn't show through or what yet. I'm planning on finishing all tomorrow and will post pics when they are done. These are the hardest ones I've tried so far. My husband is getting nervous with all these bears hanging around the house. lol I am thinking to do some wood burning on some of the details. Just wanted to drop in and let you all know I didn't quit scrolling yet.

  32. Greetings, Here is a strange article and strange project I found while searching for your request. https://mathcraft.wonderhowto.com/how-to/make-two-circle-wobbler-from-cds-0130738/ I cut some snowflakes and gave them away a LONG time ago. I think I used old CD's and when I tried old DVD's they just separated like there were several layers to the DVD. Good luck and God Bless! Spirithorse

  34. I don't remember for sure now... but I don't recall changing out any bearings or sleeves when I upgraded my EX-21 to the Pegas clamps.. Anyone done this recently that can jog my memory on this? I'm wondering because you say if we have the upgraded chucks that we can get those bearings too.. which has me confused because as I said.. I don't recall changing anything.. But maybe I did?? Also was under the impression that the Pegas had a smaller bearing in the rock shaft at the back of the saw... Maybe the same rock shaft with a smaller I.D. bearing and sleeve? I don't know but Bob has mentioned numerous times about the smaller bearing.. Honestly unless it's someone I know is very mechanical inclined I rarely believe anything they say about mechanical stuff until i take it apart myself.. Sorry but it's the years and years of building / rebuilding and restoring cars that make me a dis-believer of things.. Especially where cars have so many split year parts where they redesigned something mid- year.. Ford was terrible with that in the late 70's - late 80's.. maybe still that way, LOL.. Anyway enough of the non believing stuff.. assuming the parts are in fact the same... will they be putting these parts on a website or just have to call Bob or a Pegas distributor?

My DD/Fein vac combo seems to work great. I use it for my scroll saw and general shop cleanup. The 16 foot hose makes that possible in my small shop.

  38. Thanks for the question. Right now, I have Polar in there. I also have Ultra Reverse as well, but haven't used that yet. You bring up a point about different styles, but when I first started looking at upgrading my blades, there are so many types, it became overwhelming, which is why I am trying to narrow down for someone just starting like me. Road Trip - excited!

Seems like that little jar would fill up a couple times a day? Doesn't appear to be very large.. On a good cutting day I could fill up over a quart jar of sawdust.. Not that daily emptying would be a hassle.. But I'd think one of those dust separators with the 5 gallon bucket would be more practical for me anyway..
