Terry and I spent a marvelous 2.5 - 3 hours along with 18 other people with Kathy Wise yesterday. The first half was a slide show of her work starting with the clay animals she made at school. The second half of the morning she cut and shaped a Platypus (an Australian animal) From picking the wood to gluing it together, very informative. We thoroughly enjoyed it and so did. It also helped a lot. Marg6 points

Just finished unclamping this portrait this morning. I want to that Kris Martinson for doing this pattern for me..It was a little tricky to do. I also want to thank Mahendra for also doing a pattern for me. This is 1/4 inch BB about 8 x 10. Just have to give it a few coats of poly and it will be done.5 points

I was at my local lumber supply shop and they had this setting on the tool showroom floor.. I took a picture of it then forgot until I was there again the other day. It's on sale now so maybe I'll pick up two or three.. https://www.jbtools.com/powermatic-1791331-micro-dust-air-filtration-system/?gclid=Cj0KCQiAtOjyBRC0ARIsAIpJyGPEieVsq6IH7DfZIMRS0Ie8eaHSlta_QLWvPSl56D3sEcgUyIzuxjYaAq0LEALw_wcB4 points

combining my different crafts
Scrolling Steve and 3 others reacted to Dragonkort for a topic
had well some day I will learn how to get tI he pictures and words on here properly! lol I do many different kinds of crafts and sometimes I like to combine them together. I went through a time when I was making boxes and I had some wood I wanted to recycle so I decided to make some round boxes. I was also just getting started with the compound cutting, so I decided to incopurated some compound cutting with my boxes and make some pin cousions. I put some doll hair on the ladies and then glued a small piece of wire to one hand and then a piece of cloth to the other so she would look like she was sewing. then I glued the girl to the top edge of the box. Next I cut a some styrafome to shape, covered it with cloth and glued it to t he other side of the top and wal la!! a pincouson was born with a little storage airea for extral pins tape messure or what ever. lol then theres the mini doll bed with doll. I had made several poker boxes an had this bottom part of the box left over so I made a little doll bed with some trim from my sewing trim stash, then I took a small piece of fake fur and my tiney tiny little doll.her hands and face are made from old nylon. lol then back to my small bits of cloth box and a pillow and blanket were made. I glued some yellow felt to the bottom of the box for a mattress. and lastly the little turtle pin cousiion. a friend of mine found this pattern in an old book at the laibary. well of course we just had to make them lol some wood, cloth, felt and trim and we have a baby doll, doll bed mattress and pillow an d blaket.4 points -

Being my first project of that kind , I have to improvise some technique, so here it is ! What do you think of my technique to cut the wheel? I begin by cutting all the round top of each tooth , then I cut all the left side of each tooth, then the right side to the bottom. I try other manners and I found that I was doing a better job like that . What is your technique to do that ? I will be posting the beginning of it very soon! Thanks planeur3 points

I guess I don't get what good it would do to put the bucket with the Dust Deputy attached inside the second bucket. Seems to me the inside bucket would still collapse you just wouldn't see it. What am I missing? I got 2 buckets with my Dust Deputy kit but only use one at a time. I thought the second was just for convenience.3 points

I cut gears similar to what you describe. Only I cut each notch both directions before moving to the next.3 points

I really like listening to good guitarists, and Chet Atkins was one of my favorites. I found this Dearing pattern, added my own twist with the backing/frame. I shrunk the size down a little, cut the entire thing with Pegas spiral blades, and cut it on my Pegas saw. The little cuts on the guitar were tedious.2 points

I have spent about a year now playing with a 16 inch craftsman I got from a trade-deal at the local pawn shop. My endless research on finding a smoother saw led me to this site... I have frequented Steve Goods website for quite some time and bought his flash drive of patterns! I hope soon I can sell enough of my other toys to buy a 16 inch Excalibur... not too expensive, but a definite upgrade! Then I can submit some worthy items into bragging rights!2 points -
Glad you guys got a chance to participate. Love learning things from those so highly skilled like Kathy.2 points

How is this permitted to be sold?
new2woodwrk and one other reacted to kmmcrafts for a topic
Yeah, I wondered about some of the designs of Harveys.. This is something that WE ALL have to watch out for.. just because a pattern designer makes a pattern and sells them.. doesn't make it safe for you to sell the said items.. I've mentioned it before but I got things taken down from etsy that was designed by a very popular designer that sells the patterns online. I contacted the designer about what happened.. They said they do their best to not do anything that's infringing... guess what though... the item pattern I'm speaking of is still for sale on their pattern site.. So with that said... the lawyers and judges don't care where you got the design.. they only care about the case that they are dealing with at the moment so everyone is on their own with this...Now they may go after the designer too.. but it doesn't get you out of trouble saying you got the design from so and so and they never mentioned it being a trademark or copywrite item. It's solely up to each person to do their own investigating as to whether they are making and selling a infringing item or not..2 points -
Ya, I wish they have similar events near to me...Looks like fun.2 points

How is this permitted to be sold?
new2woodwrk and one other reacted to Iguanadon for a topic
You definitely don't want to risk it here in the US. Harvey called me Friday and was asking about it as he got a nasty letter from a trademarked entity to stop selling specific items. And I personally witnessed a "raid" at a crafts event I was doing last July. They came and took all of his stuff... never heard what the fines ended up costing him.2 points -

My wife like the cross country skiing.. I've never really tried it.. More of a bicyclist myself.. riding is quite interesting in the snow though.. when i was younger it didn't stop me much... neither did the cold.. but now.. I just ride on nicer days.. In my younger days it was almost a daily thing to get up early and ride all day.. not come home until dark.. and do nothing but ride all day long.. Dad put a odometer / speedometer on my bike because he always thought I was just hanging out at friends houses.. when he seen it was nothing for me to be doing 100 - 150 miles a day on my bike.. nobody could believe it.. Then when I got a drivers licence I still rode my bike to work (8 miles ) at the lumber mill work 8-10 hours stacking lumber coming off the mill or making pallets and then ride home.. These days.. I could do it still.. but I might not do it again for several days.. back then it was every day, LOL Enjoy you skiing.2 points -
I agree with you Kevin but I am not yet sure enough of my means to make the small curves, but it's coming ! And I will try to use smaller blade , I had used the Pegas #5 (12X). And the piece is quite thick .500" ! Have a good day, I am going skiing , skating cross country planeur2 points

Everyone has their different style that works for them.. To me (being I'm a production minded cutter ) seems like a lot of extra cutting and blades to go through to get to a finished piece.. I'd have just started at one point and cut it out all in one shot.. Looks like you might have quite a project started.. be interested to see the process and the finished piece.2 points

What with all of the disquieting news and the market unrest I decided to knock out this Charles Dearing Bob Marley pattern today. 1/4” Baltic Birch, mounted on 3/4” Pine, stained True Black. Bob’s head is free floating by design. Saved the waste piece, his hair, as a guide for placement. I used a mix of flat and spirals on this. I made this about 9”square and his head is just a hair larger than a quarter and cutting the detail was pretty challenging.2 points

I may be mistaken but I don't think Denver has had one for years. I attended one here years ago long bèfore I ever had an interest in woodworking. Went with a friend who was though. That is where I saw a Hegner demo. Don't remember much about it but I was thoroughly impressed! Wow I thought, I'll never own one of those. I'd love to attend another large show.2 points

Disappointing - It was a very small show. Maybe 18 - 20 vendors in one large ballroom size room. Peachtree wasn't there and I know some of the smaller guys sell through them. No scroll saw anything - zip nada. There was some wood turning demos and a couple of general cabinet demos and Alex Snodgrass was doing his thing for Carter Tools. There was only a couple of wood vendors and they did have some nice boards but were awfull expensive. The Drillnado/Scrollnado guy was there but he didn't appreciate my review of his products. And, BTW, I don't recommend them. I didn't bother with pictures. Not enough worth taking take pictures. Hopefully, the Timonium, MD show will be better. They have more area for display and maybe Peachtree or one of the other major vendors will be there. Unfortunately, that's not until January of next year.2 points

Never apologize!!! This cut looks great!!!! Is it as intricate or detailed or fine-lined as others cut? ...so what? The pattern doesn't call for that. Did you make mistakes? ...so what? Show me a scroller who's never made a mistake (my apologies if the Good Lord Himself is a member of this forum. He's posting under an online handle, so I might have missed that fact). What matters is that you cut it, and it looks awesome!!! So keep those blades humming!!!2 points -

I think the choking down to 3/4 loc-line is the main issue Paul. I would try putting a tee fitting in the system with a valve in the third orifice so as to see how much relief you need. You can also just glue your two buckets together. Just Kidding1 point
-
From what I can determine, the second bucket, is only a "cart" for the first bucket. You put casters on it and put the first bucket in it... Them you can remove the inside bucket to empty it.... not sure why that is advantage. I found no obstruction in my setup and my theory is I am connect this to my scroll saw dust collection. I only used 3/4" PVC that it is connecting to. May I need to bump that up to 1" or something, but it would go back down to 3/4" when it gets to my loc-line... I think the Dust Deputy has more suction than the HD one for some reason.... ?? Maybe that has nothing to do with it. For kicks I am going to try the bucket within a bucket and see what happens. If the buck does collapse, I should be able to tell because it take a long time to expand back out when I turn the vac off. I'm pretty sure I agree with Stoney on this one.1 point

Interesting.. I've watched some videos online about these and collapsing the buckets.. But the one's collapsing the buckets was not either of these brands of dust separators and the fella doing the review said his separator came with the buckets.. My shop vac I have right now is a powerful one.. I've never had one that had this much suction power.. As Jim said. maybe a small obstruction somewhere?1 point

The lure comes with two treble hooks, one you see and one at the rear of the lure. If you look close the rear treble hook is cut off and just the stem part of it is there. I was hoping to make it look like the treble hook was inside.1 point
