  1. I had a cousin visiting us a few weeks ago and she left with a few requests. I have this one finished and although it is a simple Steve Good pattern, she thought it perfect for her daughter who has many chickens. So here it is. I have an order for several other items so I will follow with them as they get completed. It is so good to be working in my shop once more Dick heppnerguy

  2. Two years ago I did't imagine I'd be able to do this kind of scroll saw art. Let me know what you think. Maybe a few suggestions on where I could improve?

    About Casper

A friend's young daughter that does not like TV much better than I do was here and bored. She rides a horse named "Casper". She wanted a sign for the stall in the barn. The idea was thrown around about coming up to the wood shop with me and figuring one out. Combination of efforts. Hers and mine. I cut the horses and she cut all the lettering--HAD NEVER ran a scrollsaw before--EXCELLENT student as the results prove. I do not know if she is more proud of it or if I am more proud of her fine work. I do know she really like the learning parts of it. The wood used is scrap plywood and rescued fence cedar, She did the cutting of the letters after we had drawn them together. Trying to figure a good way to hang it we decided on the rope trick. It is just about 32 inches long total. the horses are some images that I had modified previously and had made a template for. I goofed cutting for the stack cut, so had to modify them again. Lightly torched-- they will put a clear coat on it before hanging.

  10. seeing as how it is so close to st pattys day I thought id put up a st pattys day project. I think I could have done better on letters though.I had fun making the happy Halloween sign the worm ad book stand was my first compound cut pattern. my happy fish came out much better I think, I plan on using these fish and sea weed when I get my fake aquirem project started. and then theres jesus on the cross. I stack cut several of these and they sold pretty good, my oldest daughter liked hers a lot. lol now this morning iv been working on my elephant cell phone holders... this last one I put together came out a lot better then the first ones I did so I didn't cover it with cloth. lol It should be ready to paint soon. the friend I taught how to scroll came over to get the ark of the covent I made for her grandchild and she thought it came out great!!! lol shes always telling me im my own worst critic. lol I have 2 more of the elephants to put together....i'll do later this afternoon or tomarrow and then i'll put the other one in my box of crafts that need to be finished. you see there no heat in my workshop and the electric bill gets pretty high when im doing a lot of sawing in winter so what iv started doing is when I make multables of a project I finish one or two of them and then I put one or two of them in my winter crafts to be finished box. that way I will have projects I can do in the kitchen on cold winter days. lol I do still scroll in the winter but not quite as often as I do when the weather is nice lol

  12. I can understand frustration. Perhaps a different approach might work. Why not think up some sort of a jig that will hold the pieces in place while you assemble them? Something like that might at least give you a sense of taking matters into your own hands and not having to rely on others.

  16. My Canadian neighbor will be heading back home also, in about a month. I still hope you might decide to come to the Phoenix area next winter. It would be great to meet you and spend some time on the scroll saw together. Nice project. I have not paid much attention to the penny drop pattern but might give it a look once more Dick heppner guy

  17. This is my first attempt to use a scroll saw. Something pretty simple and just to see if I could do it, and to see if I'd be interested in furthering this as a hobby: Now, two years later, here are a few pieces I'm really happy with: The Mustang is boxed and is backlit, the motorcycle was for my son who had to sell his motorcycle, and the southwest medallion was just a personal challenge and has a 24" diameter.

  20. My son and his wife met at a local tropical fish store where they both worked. I cut this Charles Hand trivet for their anniversary. It's two months away but I'm lousy at waiting so I'll probably give it to them early. I filled it a little over half way with black tinted epoxy resin. Still need to put a couple more coats of butcher block oil on the front. The back turned out looking pretty good too.

  22. I'm not trying to bore you good folks with pics of my project but my wife found a bowl that just fits in my piece. I think it really looks good this way. She wants to find a bowl that is of a color like red/ruby or blue/cobalt. What do you think? I can't tell because I'm not good with colors. Not color blind, just not good.

    Scroll Saw Choice

I have an old RBI 20" Hawk that I purchased around 1992 or 93. It still works like a charm. However, I am not on it everyday. Sometimes I go months without using it. But still, it is about 27, 28 years old and still going.

  27. I scrolled for around two hours last evening with the valve open, no bucket collapse and every thing else seemed to work fine.. This is with the DustStopper on. Today I will put the DustDeputy back on and see what happens..
    1 point
  28. My first thought would be to put a "bleeder" valve in the vacuum line between the dust deputy and the vac. keep opening that until the bucket stops collapsing and you still get enough suction where you need it.

    Horse dream catcher

My wife would love that pattern, so I am downloading it. Don't know when I will get to it. Some critter has gnawed holes in my shed and I am trying to get it patched up. At my age, things take a while to get done. Thanks for the pattern. Tom

  34. I have had clamps like that, they are made to fit in a hole in the base of a machine. Haven't seen them used like planeur is doing. If it works, it must be right. Tom

  38. Hi, Dragonkort, I think the shelf would look better if you did make a rounded 1/2 saucer shape but, that is just my opinion. I think, if you left click the mouse and drag it over the portion of the lesson you need to recall and then right click the mouse you will get a pop up window and one option is COPY. Copy the text and paste it into word or something similar to print it. Good luck with your lessons, good luck with your project, and God Bless! Spirithorse

  39. After thinking about this topic today, I had to add a few other things. 1. The line on the pattern is only A suggestion! My scrolling today made me remember this! 2. No one else needs to know if you made a mistake, especially if you sand it off. 3 . A dremel can be a good friend to you in your shop for lots of reasons. 4. If you scroll what your wife likes/wants, you’ll get to scroll longer! 5. Good wood is hard to get. That’s what she said, I know I beat some of you from saying that!

  40. So I did a little experiment with the two bucket system. Using the Lowe's bucket as the collection bucket, I place said Lowe's bucket in another bucket (like a 5 gallon paint bucket) and the Lowe's bucket no longer collapses. YMMV but this is working for me right now and my vacuum is just an old repurposed Hoover upright so no Major suction value.

  47. Look ahead of the blade while cutting, not at the blade. Like driving a car, you look ahead to where you are going not where the tire is at the time.

    Scroll Saw Choice

A bushing is simply a metal ring with a specific interior and exterior size and length -which most are available and pretty much every bearing that has ever been made is still available -( their are so many different bearing companies in the world ) check with a bearing supply house -they may even be able to get you those bushings - of course you need the bearing and bushing sizes -which dewalt should be able to give you if they no longer carry them. a local machine shop should be able to direct you to a bearing supplier - if your having a problem .
