    More capable each time

I imagine y'all are getting tired of these, but each time I do one, I am less and less frustrated and starting to enjoy the work, and that means I want to share. ROFL fifth one edit: oops, Aspen, mahogany, red oak, and the eyes are from Chicken Express - the corn n the cob skewers - ROFL

  3. Again a rather simple piece but one I have made before and have always enjoyed it. This is a Sue Mey pattern. I have quite a few of her patterns and I really like her style. It was an easy cut but looks great on the wall. Starting the next request piece tomorrow. Dick heppnerguy

    Mom and child

My shop is my therapist. Not sure if it's cheaper than a real one but it's in my backyard, so. I was a little down and I needed to cut something simple and happy today. I posted this on FB and said if a mom or grandmom wanted it to let me know. A young mom I never talk to but thought about while cutting it said she'd like it. Things like that are what I call God's breadcrumbs. Little reminders that He's there, and maybe we're on the right path.

  5. I'm not trying to bore you good folks with pics of my project but my wife found a bowl that just fits in my piece. I think it really looks good this way. She wants to find a bowl that is of a color like red/ruby or blue/cobalt. What do you think? I can't tell because I'm not good with colors. Not color blind, just not good.

  7. With Easter coming there is a demand for Easter related signs, Religious and otherwise. I guess you would call this a religious sign. I wanted something different, so I added the clouds with just a suggestion of the cross covering the top and a dove flying over. I cut mine from poplar which had a nice grain in it and used the off cut for the base. Free Pattern

    Scroll Saw Choice

Love my 2005 Hawk G4-26. And my new used EX 16 with Pegas clamps. But If I were buying new, it would be the Pegas for the following reasons. 1. Better clamps than all of the other EX clones. 2. Tilting arm VS tilting table, if you do any beveled inlays you will really appreciate that . The Hawk and the Hegner have tilting tables, and yes I have cut a lot of bevel's on them both it takes effort to not push your work down hill. 3. The arm will tilt a full 45 deg both ways (note the dust port under the table needs to be removed to go the full 45 deg to the left (equivalent to right side table down) 4. And you can top and bottom feed without any gimmicks like the Dewalt addons. So all of the best features in one saw + I love the color.

  9. seeing as how it is so close to st pattys day I thought id put up a st pattys day project. I think I could have done better on letters though.I had fun making the happy Halloween sign the worm ad book stand was my first compound cut pattern. my happy fish came out much better I think, I plan on using these fish and sea weed when I get my fake aquirem project started. and then theres jesus on the cross. I stack cut several of these and they sold pretty good, my oldest daughter liked hers a lot. lol now this morning iv been working on my elephant cell phone holders... this last one I put together came out a lot better then the first ones I did so I didn't cover it with cloth. lol It should be ready to paint soon. the friend I taught how to scroll came over to get the ark of the covent I made for her grandchild and she thought it came out great!!! lol shes always telling me im my own worst critic. lol I have 2 more of the elephants to put together....i'll do later this afternoon or tomarrow and then i'll put the other one in my box of crafts that need to be finished. you see there no heat in my workshop and the electric bill gets pretty high when im doing a lot of sawing in winter so what iv started doing is when I make multables of a project I finish one or two of them and then I put one or two of them in my winter crafts to be finished box. that way I will have projects I can do in the kitchen on cold winter days. lol I do still scroll in the winter but not quite as often as I do when the weather is nice lol

  11. I had a cousin visiting us a few weeks ago and she left with a few requests. I have this one finished and although it is a simple Steve Good pattern, she thought it perfect for her daughter who has many chickens. So here it is. I have an order for several other items so I will follow with them as they get completed. It is so good to be working in my shop once more Dick heppnerguy

  12. Clamps, One idea is to keep an assortment of rubber bands, another is an assortment of zip ties. Club stores and home improvement store has sold jars of assorted size and color zip ties, use and cut off. The last is string. Put a loop on each end of a length you need, put string around project, put a pencil or dowel in each loop and twist. Keep an assortment of 'binder clips' or 'bulldog clips' from the office section or office supply store. With this desktop assortment you can grab one to use to hold or help clamp. Mix the ideas, use binder clips to grab, while you use rubber bands around the binder clips. Put zip ties around wood to hold the string to clamp......RJF

Very nice piece. Great wood choices and the caring person you obviously are, only made it one step better. I guess you put into it, a real loving touch. God works in what seems like strange ways sometimes. He got you thinking about a particular woman and she was the one who asked for it. What a wonderful story. I bet you are not 'a little down', now Dick heppnerguy

  14. Now that's a great idea ! and as soon as I read your post it gave me an idea!! when I get ready to put the next piece together i'll try holding it together with clamps... I can use 2 clamps ...one holding it together from the top and one from the side. the bottom should stay in place because its attatched to the side pieces with the tabs. I knew I was happy I found this sight !!! lol i'll try it tomarrow i'll let you know how it turns out Thanks !!!!

  15. well I didn't get the pictures of the ark or one of the finished elephants done like I had hoped so I guess you'll just have to settle for some more pics of things iv done in the past. one thing I like making is welcome signs...so I took a butterfly pattern and a welcome pattern and put them together to make this welcome sign. Iv made several of these. this one I did in 2 different colored plywood. the crab key chain is just something I made with some of the scrap wood. I love kids and love making things for them so this is just one of my animal word puzzle the moms taxi service dry erease board I made because it reminded me of when the kids were little, except instead of mom running the kids here and there it was there father who did it. and then theres the fish plaque. Iv had fish off and on over the years but as with my beloved turtle spock it just got to be to much for me to clean the aquirem. so I do fish patterns from time to time in rememberace of my little fish children. lol Yes im one of THOSE people who treat there animals like people. lol espically now that all my human children are grown and on there own. im thankful that spike lets me have a varity of pets. lol

  16. spike often asks me why I do the crafts I do if it gets me so upset!! lol when I tell him I like and enjoy my crafts he just sort of shakes his head and mutters who knows what !!! lol I am at the momet sitting in my chair taking a break. why you might ask? well im still working on those pesty little elephant cell phone charger thingys. I seldom toss out a project if all it takes is a little fanagaling to get it to work, so im sanding and cutting the tabs so they will fit in the slots. this is not hard for me as iv done it many times before. lol now I got all the tabs to fit into all the slots and there are no big holes that have to be filled in . each piece fits together nicely. So what's my problem you ask? My hands are just not big enough to hold all the pieces together. I can get all of one side together with no problem, but when I go to put the other side on the darn thing falls apart. grrrrr lol so spike is nicely dry fitting all the pieces for me. when he gets that done he'll put rubber bands around it so it won't fall apart and then we will glue it all together. you might ask why I don't just have him do it in the first place instead of frustrating myself with it. well spike is 11 years older than I am and there might be a time when he won't be able to help me like he does now. I'll be 62 on the 20th , spike will be 73 on his birthday this year. we have both decided its time for me to try to do things with out his help. when he's finished with this one i'll start working on another one and we'll see how far I get next time. lol this is proubly the easest thing I have to try to do with out his help. taking deep breaths and calming down lol I will not throw my projects across the room lol

  18. lol ok ok i'll see if I can get spike to take pics while im trying to do it. lol and i'll put them up weather it works or not!! lol I was planning on putting up the pics of the ark of the covenet and one of the finished elephants today but I do several different kinds of crafts and my plastic canvas took me away from my wood working this afternoon. While I was trying to glue the elephants together ( befor spike took over for me ) spike was helping me with the plasti canvas by drawing ;the pattern onto the plastic canvas for me. for some reason I have a heak of a time getting that right! he only has to do that for me once with each new project as when I cut it out I always cut out an extra one to use as a template for the next time I want to make that project. I wish could find a way to stack cut plastic canvas on the scroll saw. lol then I could just stack cut several pieces out at a time. lol I do cut cloth with my scroll saw from time to time when im make several of the same projejct. Iv also used it to cut paper...or rather books, when someone wants me to make them a book safe hinding place thingy. you know were theres a hole cut into the middle pages of the book. then you have a little safe like thing to put on your bookshelf with your other books but your the only one who knows that one of the books isn't really a book. lol I tend to do my wood working durning the day and I have one of my other crafts to do in the evening and night while im watching tv. fa

    Sanding jig for wheels

I made a sanding jig with a remaining melamine board . As you see it work with the Ridgid sander, on which I improved a lot the succion like that ( couple of years ago ) Easy to do and work ! I had everything . Cost : 0$ Thanks again Ronald Walters for the idea! planeur

  22. In the beginning, I often sanded to the line on projects rather than cut directly on the line... risking the chance of cutting into my piece. I know this was counter-productive... but it led me to an awesome sanding discovery! I had bought one of those Bladerunner Jigsaw Tables for $90 and realized it was useless for cutting... it was just sitting there collecting dust for two years. A quick internet search led me to a German company named Neutechnik that sells a similar saw setup... along with accessories. They have a kit that comes with two t-shank adapted sanding sticks (one flat and one curved). Both “sticks” have loop and hook velcro to hold sandpaper... and the shanks themselves are made of tougher steel. I ordered the kit (I believe about $35 shipped to USA). By cutting the stock red blade clearance plate of the Bladerunner larger... the sanding sticks fit! This sander helped me salvage poorly cut projects while I learned to scroll. I still use this saw/sander to soften edges (both interior and exterior) and I want to modify a regular t-shank blade to hold sandpaper so I can reach even smaller interior edges. I will attach photos of this setup in case others want to try it!

  23. After thinking about this topic today, I had to add a few other things. 1. The line on the pattern is only A suggestion! My scrolling today made me remember this! 2. No one else needs to know if you made a mistake, especially if you sand it off. 3 . A dremel can be a good friend to you in your shop for lots of reasons. 4. If you scroll what your wife likes/wants, you’ll get to scroll longer! 5. Good wood is hard to get. That’s what she said, I know I beat some of you from saying that!

  24. Look ahead of the blade while cutting, not at the blade. Like driving a car, you look ahead to where you are going not where the tire is at the time.

  37. I'm going to look into this... never seen it before. You mentioned the smell not being too bad which is my biggest complaint with many finishes too so I'm going to look for some of this at my local store to see if they have it.. I'm almost out of Danish oil again so I'll be making a trip to the store soon.. Thanks for posting this.

  43. I can understand frustration. Perhaps a different approach might work. Why not think up some sort of a jig that will hold the pieces in place while you assemble them? Something like that might at least give you a sense of taking matters into your own hands and not having to rely on others.

  44. How have I not heard about your community? I have been scrolling now for 2 years but that might have ended abruptly after a bad scare with an entry level scrollsaw with an erratic runaway motor making me feel unworthy. Determined, I returned that saw to the store and jumped in with all my fingers still intact and proudly purchased a Dewalt after searching the web and finding Steve Good. Scrolling is my zen place. Thanks for the add. Lots to learn and taking it one day at a time.

  48. By far, what I wish that I had known as a newbie is that there is an incredible wealth of helpful information, tutorials, patterns and amazing, helpful people right here in Scroll Saw Village. I mean, really, everything you need to get going and keep going is all here. My best advice...explore this website! Then get a piece of plywood and start cutting. Don't forget to ask questions on here whenever you need help. You will get great answers by skilled crafts men and women.

  49. Your best bet may be to get an aquarium air pump. I did this on one of my saws. Found one at resale shop for $1.00. Actually works better than the factory diaphragm did. Larry
