  1. I am always looking for Intarsia wood - interesting color and grain patterns. Found some plan Hickory I thought would work. Cuts OK, sanding and shaping is a real pain. This week, I felt lazing and just wanted to sit at the saw and cut something. Turns out I LIKE Hickory for shelf sitters, more so than my usual Red Oak.

    Parrot

Hello friends, good morning, I show you my last job, I hope you like it. The pattern has gripping errors in some parts and they are loose, so in the end I put white glue on the whole figure, he lost the puzzle, but it looks good LOL Thank you in advance for your comments. Greetings to all and take good care of the virus crown. Greetings from Puebla, Mexico.

    First stack cut!

I made my first attempt at stack cutting today. Frankenstein on three sheets of 1/8 inch plywood. I used painters tape and spray adhesive to plant the pattern and wrapped the whole stack with packaging tape. I should have sanded all of the boards prior to cutting because 1/8” intricate spots will be scary to sand now. Tear-out on the bottom piece was pretty bad... I used a #3 FD new spiral... I have a dozen #2 pegas spirals on order, maybe these will work better?!?!?! I included my Jason Voorhees on 1/4” oak too! Fun pattern!

    Bad Year

While sales may be sluggish through out the year, the bright side is leveling out the contagions and avoiding a worse situation I've been spending a lot of time in my shop. Making little odds and ends out of all the left over and junk pieces I've had since I started. If nothing else, it is giving me lots of practice and lots of inventory to sell later on if it gets to that point. We just had our first confirmed case of Covid-19 here, so we're battening down the hatches for another week. More projects, more fun. Chins up everyone, it can't last forever!

    Bad Year

I personally plan to do a lot of cutting, I might be in a better situation than those selling only at shows.. but even if nobody buys anything from me.. I have and will continue to cut whatever it is I want / like to cut.. If nothing else.. shop time gets my mind off of the issues at hand. I have plenty of lumber to be stuck at home for the entire year.. Of coarse I'll run out of food and all the essentials.. BUT.. my point is.. If nothing else.. time behind the saw is better than time wasted on worrying about something I have very little control over..

    Ace Mechanic

Ok, your car breaks down and the only thing you know about checking your car is kicking the tires. Who ya gonna call? The mechanic, I suppose. You better hope he's an ace. If you have a good mechanic you know, this might be a nice gift to give him. I cut mine from oak and made a similar wood custom cut base. Free pattern

The original drawing I used for my pattern was done from a lady I found on Deviant Art,. JYVONNE-INMANN was a lady who could really draw. She fought cancer for quite awhile and has passed away. Thanks for looking.

  16. Military police (MP) are law enforcement agencies connected with, or part of, the military of a state. ... A section of the military responsible for policing the areas of responsibility of the armed forces (referred to as provosts) against all criminal activity by military or civilian personnel. Perhaps you know of someone who would welcome this sign as one of respect. I cut mine from sapeli and mounted it on a custom cut base of cherry. Free Pattern

    How to cut this

I got tired of messing with that pattern. I just squared off the ends and then rounded them off a little with the saner. Much easier.

    How to cut this

Good work around @octoolguy I thought if I wanted to cut these patterns, I would just cut the open area at the end of the blank much smaller so it wasn't that close to the edge but, that still might not work either. Your work around is a better plan. God Bless! Spirithorse

    American Classics

This is a pattern by Sam Custodio, I thought that I would try something a bit different & hence the red background & the white cutting.I have sold it already to my best customer to join the rest I have sold him . This is number 19 that he has bought off me, he lines his office with them .He also has a couple of Harleys set up in his home.I think he might like motorcycles. Cheers Peter

    Bad Year

I think we all need to be optimistic that this will end soon. If we all heed directions by our local officials, we will be back to normal by summer. I’m still cutting for my shows at the end of the year and my Etsy store. I don’t sell much there because I don’t advertise, but I do sell some. And if the winter shows are cancelled, I’ll have plenty of stock for next year. Don’t be discouraged, things will even out! Stay positive!!!

  39. Why did I put this in the "Bragging Rights" section? Well we all have, I think, had a failure or two along the adventure of scrolling... I have had more than a few and always chalked it up to learning or "that's life" and gone on.. This is a total failure on my part, and bragging because it is my biggest so far in my life as a scrollperson.... I wrote "scroller" but could not decided if that was sexist, or not, so I changed it. I started this project after seeing the completed ones Heppnerguy and rdatelle posted. They were beautiful and well done. I wanted to do one in prep for a finescrollsaw clock I have wanted to do for several years. Smart guy me, decided that I would do it in Cherry Wood. Long story, short, after around 8 weeks of hard work, I declared a failure and quit. The scrolling part was not real difficult, and the type I love doing. The putting it together was my down fall. This is 1/4" and 1/8" cherry with detailed scrolling in it. I never realized how fragile, (ha, every time I type the word "fragile" I think of "The Christmas Story" on TV.) it would be. Every time I tried to glue parts together, I would break a part somewhere... every time!! There are at least 15 repaired or re-cut parts on this clock. The last one, the back leg, that I tried to put a screw through, that was pre-drilled and countersunk, split in half,,, I said, for the sake of my sanity , enough is enough, life, for me, is two short, I quit! Oh, even when I ordered the clock movement of it,,,,, they sent the wrong one, seemed like an omen to me... So, it sits on the floor in my family/computer/wife won't allow me in the livingroom, room. Waiting for the spring wiener roast, I think, would be appropiate. Ahh., thanks, I confessed, got it off my chest and can move on.

    Oh no! He's back.

Glad you made it back. I am one of their repeat customers, 7 heart related surgeries in the past 20 years. Now that you know what it feels like, don't hesitate to go for help quickly the next time you begin feeling the same or similar. I'm bionic now. I got my pacemaker last Fall, so now I run on batteries. I have enough metal and plastic in me to make the scanners at the airports go crazy. One of the scanner operators told me "Man, you light up like a Christmas Tree". I also have metal knees and survived the big C twice so far. I still stay as active as I can. I'm afraid to slow down. Friends who retired and sat on the porch every day aren't here any more. Do everything that you feel well enough to do. You will last longer. Charley

  46. Why skip the veining in the ears....that was a part of the challenge? I did go to a smaller blade to do the ears as it was a tight cut.
    1 point
  47. I just finishing cutting the freebee. Cut as the pattern suggests with one change. I did not do the veining on the little cubs ears. A very easy cut with Pegas #5R MGT blades on the Pegas Scroll Saw. May have to order more.

  48. Correct. Harvey's patterns are not really meant for young children. Small pieces. I make it a point at events to let people know they aren't for kids.

    Pegas Clamps

I bought the first set for my EX21. The old clamps were still in good working order but I liked the simplicity of the Pegas and so I bought a set. I have NO regrets. They gave me less vibration and it's obvious that they are lighter weight. I love how they work too. So effortless and smooth. I DO feel that they are a bit pricey so I still haven't pulled the trigger on another set for my EX16 but at some point, after the world comes back to it's senses, I'll order another set. Maybe by then they will feel that the price is too high and drop it a bit. I know, wishful thinking.
