    one for a friend

I made this Steve Good pattern for a nephew of mine that worked at a paper mill until he was about 70 years old and finally retired last month. He had big plans for traveling and being with many friends and relatives for a big get together, retirement party when the virus thing hit and plans had to be delayed. Both his wife and he were very upset as it was to be a big celebration and the disappointment set in and depression was surfacing. When I read about how much disappointment they were feeling and knowing he is a big fan of custom cars and owns one himself, as well as in a custom car club for years, I knew I just had to make this for him and try to bring his mood up just a little. He received it today and it worked. He was very pleased with such a small jester as this and it sure made it worth the small effort it was for me to do it for him. These things is worth more to me than a $600 craft show. The satisfaction of knowing that this one small piece of scrolling will probably remind him of me, every time he sees it. What a great pat on the back that will be for me, even though I will not know when that happens. I can't express the big lift it was for me when he emailed me and posted it on Facebook. 2. I was asked to make this as a raffle prize for our county centennial. The logo was designed by a local artist. The backer is maple flooring I was able to salvage out of an old community hall that was torn down quite a few years ago. The logo and letters are actually oak ply, but I stained them with Minwax Dark Walnut stain to help them stand out more. Overal size is roughly 33" wide by 19" tall.

  5. SSV Nation, I have to wait on more flooring to arrive so I can press on with that (Kept me busy for a bit). I finally was able to make it back into the garage today and made this. Thanks for all who encouraged me as it has almost six months since I started scrolling. Hope you like it and welcome feedback. Hendo

    Chet Mate!

I wanted to do a second Chet Atkins scrolling for a gift, but just slightly larger than the first one I did. I decided to add a bit more detail to his fingers, but was somewhat limited as it is still quite small (6 3/8 W x 7 3/4 L for the original, and 6 7/8 x 8 1/4 for the new one).

    150 circle cuts

I've been cutting (and painting gluing etc) all month on this order. I think I'm done with circles for a bit -- way too many -- but I think I've got it down - wish I had paint down as well edit: sorry I should have put in what I was using I guess -- 3/8 Baltic with a #1 modified geometry -- the rest of it uses 1/8 - 1/4 - 3/8 - and 3/4 baltic 1.mp4

  8. The Chihuahua is the smallest breed of dog, and is named after the Mexican state of Chihuahua. It is a rather cut little dog, but in my experience can be quite feisty. In any event, if you are looking for something to do here's a nice little puzzle of six Chihuahuas. Makes a nice display piece for dog lovers as well as an easy puzzle to put together on a rainy day. I cut mine from 3/4" pine and painted them white so they could stand up on a shelf. Free Pattern

You have WAY more patience than I do, I would have used a router and a template and save hours of time. But you're finished product sure looks nice.

    Laugh when you can

Laugh when you can, it’s good medicine. I have no idea where the pattern came from, it has been in my pattern file for years. 1/2” Maple with a Cherry veneer, MDF core plywood backer. I cut two. I finished these several weeks ago. I set them aside waiting for my finish to arrive via mail order. When I went to finish them, they had both warped. I had already posted them on my Etsy store. I removed them from Etsy and stuck them in a drawer. I came back a week later, and they both had flattened out! I sprayed my lacquer and they are both fine now!

  13. Wolf, 1/2" ply scrap, pattern by Grampa (Pattern Library). Pegas #1MG and a bit of FD #2/0 spiral (had trouble convincing the dang blade to stay in the holder, so I switched back to a regular blade). Not a difficult cut, just....time-consuming. Lots of tiny interior details, I ended up cutting all of the little marks then going back and doing the large pieces afterwards. Top piece is currently stained Ipswitch Pine (lightest I had) and backer is Ebony. Frame will be Ebony when I get a chance to get back into the garage.

    Kick Back Bad

Trackman you got lucky this time. We all know better but it is that "quicky" that gets us every time. I cut a lot of the 1/16 (1.5mm) ply for my ornaments into squares. The problem is that occasionally it slips under my fence and it has nailed me. I will make a sled for this in the future. In the mean time I bought a pair of the Grippers at a show years ago. They are priceless!. I very rarely use a push stick anymore. The gripper has thumb screws so it takes no time to change the setting. but having two I rarely have to. I use them on my jointer, router table band saw etc.

  16. I had some trouble with my Seyco recently. I finally found the culprit, the four screws ( two on each side top and bottom ) on the front of the arm one side has the hold down foot attached. They were all loose and actually lost one of them. The bottom four were loose as well letting the linkage work loose in the arms. Went to the hardware store and got a new screw, tightened up the others and she was back in running condition. Checked my EX as well but they were tight as I had taken it apart before and must have cranked them down tight. Moral of story it doesn't take much to throw the saw a bit out of whack.

  18. looks like you have everything in place. Extremely nice work. Scrolling is a craft where one can progress quite quickly, if their attention is focused and one continues to strive for perfection. I would have to say, after viewing your work, that you certainly have been using your scroll saw a lot and I would say you have also already been challenging yourself on a regular basis. Keep up the good work. If I was going to suggest anything for you after you said you wish to be challenged I guess about to only challenges for you would be to search out patterns that look almost impossible and take it on. I believe you can probably scroll anything you see already Dick heppnerguy

  19. We are heading into a political season here in the US. I'm sure it's not surprising to you that politics is a seriously divisive topic. I just want to remind everybody that political discussions and debates are not allowed on SSV. Politics is the quickest way to ruin friendships we've tried so hard to create. If you want to ruin friendships, Facebook is the place you want. If you want to talk about making sawdust, SSV is the place to be. Here are a few things that ARE NOT allowed: Inflammatory patterns/cuttings Political soapboxes discussions Political hot-button topics Political Jokes/Cartoons Political Internet Memes "I can't believe..." discussions. (c'mon...you know it when you see it) Here are a few things that ARE allowed: Respectful cuttings Respectful portraits Respectful patterns (seeing a theme here?) This certainly isn't an exhaustive list, but it gives you an idea. Here are the rules regarding politics and religion found in the User Guidelines: If you have a question regarding the appropriateness of a pattern, cutting, or discussion, let me know. If you see anything that you feel is inappropriate, please flag it and a moderator will take a look. More Scrolling! A political platform I can stand by.

    Hello from Canada

Hello Everybody, my name is Diana and I live in Canada. I came across this site while looking for Snoopy scroll saw patterns online. I didn’t find any patterns but I found this site. I have been scroll sawing and doing intarsia for 30 years. I was a transport truck owner operator and discovered intarsia at a truck stop in Northern Ontario. I then went to a woodworking trade show and ended up buying an Excaliber scroll saw. Since I spent so much time in my shop working on my truck I decided to set up a workbench for my new hobby. I used the pictures from my Disney notebooks I used for work to keep track of my loads as my patterns. I started out first using pine, but quickly discovered where I could buy exotic woods to get some beautiful colours in my pieces. I love working with wood I find it very therapeutic and I get a great feeling from gifting my pieces. I’m very interested to read all your stories and see your beautiful work. I will attach some of my work.

  22. I am not familiar with the RBI Hawk but after 15 years there may be some sawdust in the rheostat. That may make it work intermittent. If you can get to it, blowing it out with compressed air or one of those air cans used to clean computer keyboards. Found an interesting youtube video that explains rheostats/potentiometers and possible fixes but if you can't get to the "innards", it may be time for a replacement.

  31. Hey everyoned, didn't see this thread. By all means modify Harvey's patterns if needed. I do it on a handful of his patterns either due to "weak spots" or to remove an unnecessary puzzle connector. He does beautiful work, but doesn't mean they're all perfect, right?

  47. And now a word from the CDC: "Wash Your Hands!" How many times have we heard this lately? A lot, but it is good advice. Maybe if you have a nice little sign in your lav it will get results. Here's a nice wood cut that might do the job. I cut mine from a piece of scrap oak veneered plywood 1/4". It stands about 5" tall and about 7" long. I mounted it on a strip of mahogany to accent the wood and it came out pretty good. Free Pattern
