  2. I'm not really pleased with this but, I absolutely had to cut something and this could be done in one day. I'm a sucker for Native American patterns and this is supposed to represent a knife with a bone blade.. Pattern by Tim Rogers. My cutting is about 17" x 14 1/2". Woodburned wolf paws. Since I tapered the knife blade to make it look like a real knife, the knife then had to be raised to make it look like it was laying on top of the sheath properly. Thanks for looking and God Bless! 3. I saw a post about Teddy Bear walks and all of a sudden in our neighbourhood I started to see bears in window. I decided I need a bear too and so I made one in wood. This is a Steve Good design for the a bearbox that I enlarged to an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet. Started yesterday morning and had ready for last night.

    Blade Question

Had a question about a new blade. I bought my DeWalt 788 4 years ago and the blade that came with it worked great for a while but it seems to be going dull because I'm really having to push or slow down to get it to cut. I've cut about 3,000 of these puzzles. Is it time for me to buy a new blade? If one lasted me 4 years, why would I buy an entire dozen? Do people go in together and buy a pack and split them up? Thanks.

    Blade Question

Starting using mine in 08. In 2014 it seemed to be getting harder to cut. Noticed I had the blade in upside down. Turned it over and it is still going like new. Larry

    Blade Question

I just remove the blade and run my chainsaw file over the teeth to buff them back to sharpness. I am guessing I can get 5 years from a single blade, heck my file Might run flat first.

  11. I finished one order and was hesitating on the next so I tried something else that scares me but is my own so I can screw it up without a problem. These are 13 hours into it -- unfortunately I have to start the next one so am shelving this for now -- maybe (or I could just be insane for trying this but it's working) 3/8 Baltic with a #1 modified geometry on a Pegas

    Blade Question

I'd trade that blade for my new one that came with my DeWalt 10 years ago.. Mine was so sharp it cut through 2 x 4 faster than the table saw did.. but too sharp to do any of my fretwork... so I've been buying used blades off eBay..

  16. When I finish with the CA I rap the container sharply on the bench or table. This clears the tip. Works best on thin CA.

  17. I use CA glue that comes in bottle like this. It is easy to control and I've never had a problem with it drying out before it gets used up. As long as I keep the cap on, I'm able to use all the adhesive. It's a little more expensive, but there is no waste.

  18. Since Easter is coming and most of us are trapped in our social distancing environments, I thought it might be fun to experiment with a bunny pencil topper. I designed the head so that it can be compound cut on the scroll saw. I did mine on a 1.5 x 1.5 x 3" block cut from a 2 x 4. This soft pine is easy to cut using a #4 skip tooth blade. After you cut your block, x out a center on the end and drill a 5/16" hole about an inch into the block on the end. This will be the hole in the head for the pencil. Now you can do a plain ol' compound cut. If you are new to compound cutting check out my Spinner video on YouTube Free Pattern

  19. New small blades can be super aggressive. I saw a few strokes in oak to reduce the agressiveness. 2/0 and #1 blades try to run away on their own for me especially when I'm making a sharp turn.

  22. The cyclone goes into a sealed container. It can be anything. My next one will be stuck in a coffee can because it has a sealed plastic lid. Reinforce the thin plastic lid with a couple of plywood discs, cut a hole in the top to insert the cyclone. Cheap and easy.

    Blade Question

I guess you will be able to go 48 years until you buy another new blade. My blades don't last that long because I don't really cut enough to be good at it. Your blade must have been made from titanium I think Dewalt quit using titanium for blades 3 1/2 years ago.

  29. Howdy folks! I'm Steve. I recently became a member and I would like to introduce myself. I've been looking around on the fourm for awhile and liked what I've found so much that I wanted to join up. I live in Texas, just outside Waco. I call my woodshop Cross Timbers Wood Crafts. I've been a woodworker for a long time but I didn't start scrolling until 2016. I've still got a long way to go before I can call myself an accomplished scroller, but I'm learing as I go. I wish I'd found this fourm back in 2016. My first scroll saw was an old Delta. It was difficult to change blades and vibrated so bad that I didn't want to use it. So I bought a DeWalt 788 (which I promptly renamed Lemon 788). It had problems right out of the box. There was always something wrong with it. I know there's many who like the 788, I guess I just got a bad one. Now I have a Seyco ST-21, and I must say that my cutting has improved with the Seyco. I just need more time on it. Well, now that you know a little about me, I'm looking forward to getting to know y'all and be part of the group.

  30. I cut a puzzle yesterday and after it was finished I found a crack in one of the pieces. If I had seen this while I was cutting the puzzle it would have gone into the kindling bucket and I would have started over. However, this one did not show up until the puzzle was completely finished. the crack does not go all the way through and the puzzle has been coated with an oil and wax finish. Does anyone know a way to repair a crack like this? I was thinking about trying some thin CA glue.

  32. I just found an informative site regarding super glues. After reading it, I have come to the conclusion that the accelerator may be nothing more than water in an aerosol can. The super glue works with the humidity/moisture in the air. I'll bet they are just selling water to spray on the glue joint. Anyway, I'm a lot smarter about super glue now than I was an hour ago.

  33. I just keep mine in the cupboard. When I was doing pens, I use lots of it and bought larger quantities I kept it refrigerated. Now I buy the smallest bottles, one at a time. It has a pretty long shelf life, especially if you live in a drier climate,,, like me.

  39. Looking good so far. A word of advise, don't drill all of the holes at the same time that way if you unrepairably muck up you haven't wasted all of the wood. Marg

    Blade Question

I guess it all depends on what your cutting and the size of the blade your using. For me personally blade life depends on a lot of factors, wood being cut, thickness of the wood, size of the blade, speed of the saw, the tension of the blade, and. If you find yourself having to "push" harder than usual then it's time to change the blade, I will say I find it amazing that your blade lasted as long as it did. I buy my blades by the gross because if I'm cutting hardwood it's not uncommon for me to go thru several blades on a project. So I guess the best answer would be if you find yourself "pushing" harder than you feel is necessary it's time to change the blade. Good luck, the puzzle looks great! Chris
