Many years ago my wife and I visited Rothenburg ob der Tauber. It is one of the most scenic and historic walled cities in Germany. The view is of the Rotor Tor (gate) and we had the opportunity to walk around the top of whole wall. It's a magical place full of timber frame houses and interesting shops. It' a project I had thought about doing for a long time. I started the design 12/17 and didn't start the cutting until 3/7. I gave myself some time to work on it and had to walk away a few times. There were a lot of holes! Things were kind of fragile too. Keeping pieces in place helped retain the strength until I was finished. Love Blue Tape!! I finished it today. Dimension is 17 x 12 on BBPW. Finish is Semi-gloss lacquer and I made a custom frame to fit. I must say that it was one of my most challenging scroll saw projects but I'm glad I did it.6 points

My daughter got married
Woodrush and 3 others reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
My youngest daughter got married last month and my wife reminded me that I had not made them a wedding plaque. OH, my. I went to the computer and pulled up this Sue Mey pattern and went to my shop and put it in my 'top priority' projects. I got it mailed off this morning. So glad my wife reminded me when she did Dick heppnerguy4 points -

Folks that are making masks RJF
OCtoolguy and one other reacted to teachnlearn for a topic
There are patterns and resources for making masks that I posted. This article today outlines a company checking the materials and realizing Blue Shop towels work the best. If you know any crafters or groups making these, pass it on. RJF https://news.yahoo.com/using-blue-shop-towels-homemade-221911287.html2 points -

Bone Knife & Sheath Intarsia
ChelCass and one other reacted to spirithorse for a topic
I'm not really pleased with this but, I absolutely had to cut something and this could be done in one day. I'm a sucker for Native American patterns and this is supposed to represent a knife with a bone blade.. Pattern by Tim Rogers. My cutting is about 17" x 14 1/2". Woodburned wolf paws. Since I tapered the knife blade to make it look like a real knife, the knife then had to be raised to make it look like it was laying on top of the sheath properly. Thanks for looking and God Bless! So this is where we are. Having to avoid each other because of Covid-19. Well, we all have to try to be safe so I guess for a while we'll have to keep our distance with maybe an elbow bump once in a while. Here's a sign as a reminder. I cut mine from oak plywood and mounted it on the off cut for a base. I can only wonder if someone generations from now happens upon this message what he/she will think. Free Pattern2 points

Recently @RabidAlien posted the pattern of the Jazz Trumpeter. One I wanted to try so I did. Not posting this because I am happy with it but more to give advice to anyone else that cuts it. As you can see with mine, it does not show up well. The reason is I did not enlarge the pattern enough, this is approximately 10" x 7.5" x 1/4". When I do it again (out of wood right now), I will increase the size by at least 50% more. That way the lines will be thick enough to let the white show through, and I will cut it in 1/8" pieces (stacked), that will also let the white show up more. It is a fun cut and not real difficult. There are some very fragile area and making it bigger will also strengthen them some. I really enjoyed playing around with it, not sorry I tried and it will be on my do over list. Is making a trip to a wood store essential???!! Feels like it to me.. Just thought of another option, reverse it, doesn't look too bad.2 points

QUESTION ABOUT PATTERNS
amazingkevin and one other reacted to BadBob for a topic
I scan mine, clean them up with GIMP, and copy them to Inkscape and convert them to SVG files. From that point, it is easy to make them any size I want. I haven't had one, yet that was too big for my printer, but should that happen, I would send the print job to a nearby office supply store for printing. Books are a pain to scan, but compared to what I used to have to do scanning and converting is brain dead simple. Have you ever tried creating a pattern on a 1-inch grid from a poorly printed 3-inch pattern in a book? I was looking at a new book I purchased reticently, and that is almost all patterns and thinking that I should cut the spine off this one and scan it. Add all the pages to a PDF file just to keep them together is a viewable format. Import this into Calibre. Then back everything up and toss the book into the recycle bin. At this point, I have no use for the paper copy. All it will do is sit on the shelf, collecting dust, and take up shelf space I could use for something more useful. It took me a long time to get over, wanting to keep books but after years of watching them fall apart sitting on a shelf or in boxes. I got over it, and I gave away hundreds of them. The bed of my Ford Ranger was near full. I'm still getting rid of books.2 points -

Teddy Bear walk
ChelCass reacted to don in brooklin on for a topic
I saw a post about Teddy Bear walks and all of a sudden in our neighbourhood I started to see bears in window. I decided I need a bear too and so I made one in wood. This is a Steve Good design for the a bearbox that I enlarged to an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet. Started yesterday morning and had ready for last night.1 point -

Folks that are making masks RJF

A face mask is going to use a sheet or two for layered per roll. Can't figure why people have to grab in hoards. We have kept a roll in the car for years for spill, napkin, or one day my wife's seat was wet. When I first got them my wife was fighting me and telling me we have 'Bounty'. Now that she has used them, they have their own place next to the 'paper towel'. RJF1 point -

5X5 is a little cheaper than 4X8. Don't know why but Paxton Lumber said so so I purchased 5X5. I buy 1/8 and 1/4 BB. Don't use 1/8 much but use lots of 1/4. For backer I purchase cheap Luan 3/6" plywood.1 point

getting started on new wood projects
heppnerguy reacted to Dragonkort for a topic
well its been a nice day. finished my plastic canvas project and started tracing and putting some wood patterns on to the wood. im going to try to make several of steve goods beauty toys... the hair drayer comb perfume bottle sissors…. and the bird in a bird cage. I like both those patterns.. im going to make several of that one too because I want one for me to go with the crocheted one mom made for me and one for my brother who didn't get a crocheted one ( I tried to crochet him one with out the pattern, it was ok and he took it home but it really didn't come out very good) the wood one will look a lot better. if we ever find moms crocheted pattern i'll crochet him another one. iv got all her patterns that we were able to find but of course that one pattern is the one we didn't find. ah well any way im off to do some more tracing in hopes I can do some cutting tomarrow.1 point -
