  5. Had a good time cutting this portrait of Doc Adams from Gunsmoke. Pattern by @lawson56. 1/2" Red oak. About 5" X 7". When I'm cutting a portrait I usually take a picture of the back side after cutting the eyes, nose and mouth and post it on Facebook to see if anyone can guess who it is. Usually only have maybe one correct guess. Most everybody got this one right. Doc has some recognizable eyes.

  8. Been on this site for a couple of years now, and usually just clicked on a post and scrolled down to the blue line to see the latest comments....sometimes, that's a LOT of scrolling. I happened to let my mouse sit next to a post title the other day, long enough for the popup to show me what I was hovered over. Turns out, the little blue dot (or star) NEXT TO the post title takes you straight to the first unread comment in the thread. Hovering over the thread title shows a preview of the original post, so I can see if it was a pattern/question/comment that I'd commented on already, and then click on the blue dot to drop straight to the next unread post. Yeah....it takes me a while to figure stuff out sometimes.

  9. Here are 5 facts about Lady Bugs 1) Ladybugs are a type of beetle. 2) Some ladybugs have no spots and others have up to 20 spots. 3) To help defend themselves, ladybugs play dead. They also can release a yellow fluid that other bugs find stinky. 4) The color of the ladybug sends off the message to its predators that it may taste bad or be poisonous. 5) Ladybugs cluster together as a way to “deter predators by increasing the concentration of their smell and their warning coloration. Now that you know something about Lady Bugs, here is a simple puzzle your children or grand children might enjoy piecing together (after you dazzle them with your knowledge). I cut mine from 1/4" birch plywood. It's a flat puzzle so lay it on a flat surface when assembling. Free Pattern

    Key Holder

Been asked to make a key holder for the wife. Still have to put on the hooks, but first time using Canary wood. Absolutely love it! Smells nice cutting, response well. Cut with a Flying Dutchman #1 skip tooth. Used Team oil to make it pop. Hope the SSV nation likes this as much as I have loved making it and staring at it. P.S. I think I figured out my problem with the photos going sideways. iPhone 8 has to be turned sideways.

  12. I have many of these cars from a variety of materials. I made this one from two layers of 3/4-inch MDF glued together and then cut on my scroll saw. I sanded and sealed the body and applied multiple coats of acrylic paint with a clear glossy topcoat.

    Basket - C01

The pattern is by Alex Fox. I enlarged the pattern to fit a 10" x 10" piece of 1/4" Mahogany. Since I cut this at home, I cut it on the EX21 using FD UR #1 blades. The finish is three coats of spray Polyurethane Clear Gloss. I normally do not use gloss, but it fits this project. Comments welcome.

  15. ok I made all of my kids some christmass presents according to what they are interested in. When I asked my youngest daughter what she would like she said she wanted a D & D screen to put on the table to sort of hide her books and notes and such... my ex husband and I started playing D&D back in the late 70s when it first came out so of course my kids learned to play to. now when they were younger I would make up D & D type games to go with there history lessons lol they had to really research the person they were playing and stick to the personaly of that person during the game.... it made the learning fun and entertaining lol it wasn't until they were grown that they relized what I was doing lol then they accused me of being sneaky!! lol can you immanage little old me being sneaky? lol any way my Heather now runs a D & D game of her own with her husband and there friends.... and as dungen master she wanted a screen... now I don't know where you could be buy such a thing and not having found any patterns on line for them I just sort of had to make my own patterns..... so what I did was grab 2 coloring book pictures that fit the D &D theam and another from a wood magazine I had and transferred the pictures to wood... then I took my trusty little dermal tool and bits... and sort of line carved and etched the pictures on to the wood... after those were finished I put a frame around each picture then put hinges on them so they would stand and be a screen.... then I wood burned the name of all Heathers direct relitives and all the pets name we ve had over the years in the bricks of the castle wall in the center frame. im not to sure how well the pictures came out bu t here they are::::this is the center piece... its a dragon with wings sort of sitting in the door way of a castle... you can't really see it but those black little lines or squiggles... that s where i wood burned all the names in the bricks ... sometimes i make things a litte more complex then just simple projects lol everyone one whos seen it has asked if i could do another screen maybe with different picture and how much would i charge to make them..... so far iv been able to sort of stear them to other things.... because of course i could make others but i have no idea how much to charge for such a thing!! lol i told my kids if they ever want to get a present for one of there friends to let me know and then i ll see what i can come up with for them... only thing is they wont be able to pick out the pictures they want done. lol i had thought about painting the pictures once they were done, but everyone told me NO !! lol to just leave it as it was so thats what i did. the only real problem i had with making this is that the 3 pannals wont fold down flat for carrying when going to some eles house or to be put away so i put little hook type things on the tops of the pictures so the screen can be hung on a wall and then taken down during game time. like i said i dont really know what kind of wood working you would call this but Heather liked it as did a lot of her frieds and thats all that really mattered to me. lol

  19. There are kangaroos and koalas and snakes all over Australia plus sharks and dolphins. Emus I think are mainly in the center, I have seen them near the South Australia / New South Wales border. Tasmanian devils live in Tasmania. Wombats of different species live in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland not sure about any where else. Kookaburras and Sulphur Crested Cockatoos I think are in all states but certainly in Victoria, so are the Black Cockatoos. Crocodiles in the Northern Territory and Northern Queensland. Dingos in New South Wales and Northern Territory. Hope this helps a bit. Marg

  32. oh I simply love that idea !! I saved the picture that shows the diagram for making the light box..... with spikes help im sure we could figure out how to do it!! and I copyed the picture of the DM screen this is the closest iv ever gotten to making a layered pice. this was a picture I saw in a magazine. I showed it to ritia and asked her to help me make a patten from it Its a layered a piece but theres no cut out holes that would let the light shine through. Ritia helped me with the layering process to...showing me where to put each piece of the picture so it would look right. I have trouble with depth perception so its hard for me to get this sort of thing right. I think what your talking about is a little bit different and easer. in this picture each piece is cut out and glued to the baker board to creat the picture. not sure if that's any kind of official wood workig thing lol but that's what I wanted to do so ritia fixed up the pattern for me. I think what your talking about is more like cutting several fret pieces out of thin wood and then layering them one on top of the other to show the depth and the light would shine through the holes where the fret work was cut out of eah piece? then you would just buy a light kit of some k ind to fit your project and then light it up behind the entire finished picture ? I was not kidding when I told you people I don't really know what im doing. lol I try to figure out how things were put together mainly from the pictures.. I do read the directions and discripetion of apiece but for the most part I look at the picture to see where everything goes and the before I glue the piece together I get some one who has depth perception to look at it and help me get the pieces placed right. now with this picture there were no directions because ritia and I made the pattern from a picture in a mag... lol might have been from one of those old D&Dmagizines the ex was always getting the mail... don't even know if there in busness any more. lol thanks for the wounderful idea!!! hum wounder if I can find the pattern for this picture and figure out a way to make it into a light box? the same with heathers screen pictures... oh if case your woundering the words at the bottom of picture says sometimes the dragon wins lol and you cant really see if very good but the dragon is using whats left of the knights sword as a tooth pick and hes cleaning his teeth!! all that other stuff on the ground are bits and pieces of his armor lol

  49. Well it's been the longest time I have been off work in 40 years. Yet I have enjoyed scroll sawing my grandkids names out in walnut and maple laminated. Finished up the resawing of Red Oak logs into lumber waxed the ends and stickered them. Finished up 8 thresh holds with oak on floor coverings. Cut out a Ranger Derby car. Replaced 20 picket fence slats. Washed the cargo trailer and have not visited a store, gas station or another building in 4 weeks. WOW! Posted a picture of the Bandsaw Resaw Sled. I have 3 more 4' long logs to resaw sometime soon. Will be glad when we get past this hunkering down.
