    This weekend's cutting

Well I have been staying busy. That's a good thing. Thanks to Russell for the word in word pattern and the rose is a modified Sue Mey pattern. Thanks for looking and have a great and safe day. Mimi

  2. My son finally got bored and is cutting things out on the scroll saw. I need to get some of the blades Kevin got with his Dewalt because he is breaking a few while learning.

    Vase

The pattern for this Vase is by Steve Good. I used Poplar 1/4" and 3/4" pieces. It was cut at home using the EX21 and FD Polar #5 and FD UR #1 blades. Sanding took some time, but worked great with the Seyco Flex Drum Sander. The finish is spray Polyurethane Clear Gloss. Comments welcome.

  5. Hi all, I just finished this shark car, from team umi zoomi (my daughters favorite show), for her 2nd birthday present. It still needs some work, mostly minor, but this was the first project I've made tilting the cutting table on my saw and I learned alot doing so! I used screw eye hooks and cotter pins for the tail. Made with pine board. Also my first project using my dremel tool for alot of the shaping. I kind of liked sanding on this one. Very zen. Enjoy!

  6. As you probably know, making straight cuts with a scroll saw requires a lot of concentration. As I outlined in the thread: I am going to be making a lot of frames to send to friends. Today, I cut 10 frames and each of those frames has 76 individual straight cuts. That's one heck of a lot of concentration. Here is photo of the stack of cut frames: I used a Flying Dutchman #5 Ultra Reverse blade and the wood I 6mm thick Baltic Birch plywood. I guess that I could have staked these at least two deep, but I am not fond of stack cutting.

    Six Months Ago/Today

Village, I embarked on a journey last Oct when my neighbor gave me a 1990 13 inch Craftsman Scroll Saw. With your guidance and encouragement, I will mark this day with my first project ( Bottom) and the Jimi Hendrix (top) I just finished. Thank you for all the help and mentoring.

    Wooden Toy Bat Car

This toy might be the prettiest car I have made and one of the most challenging. I'm not sure what kind of wood it is. I thought it was spruce. For some reason, polyurethane would not cure on this wood without heating it in the oven. So I started using shellac. It works great.

  10. Great projects! As many of you know, my wife and I have had some really severe health problems and now problems with the insurance company so, I haven't scrolled much. Thanks to all those that have offered their prayers and a special thanks to two members here that I reached out to, to cry on their shoulders. Their prayers, their concern, and just letting me vent is greatly appreciated. Anyone that wants to take time to offer their prayers for my family would also be appreciated. I finally decided that since Judy Gale Roberts was kind enough to offer her Nurse Teddy Bear intarsia pattern FREE to help scrollers recognize nurses during these sad times I accomplished three of the bears. I have two nieces that are nurses and one sister that is a nurse so, they will receive these when I can deliver them. This photo was taken while they are still laying on wax paper with the first coat of polyurethane on them. God Bless! Spirithorse

  14. I have done a number of scroll projects that I put in the bragging section - Happy Easter, Bear Walk, and more Bear Walk. But different for me in this time of isolation, I dusted off the lathe and participated in some club projects. Wig Stands for Cancer Patients - have done lots of these in the past and have got 3 done for this drive. Have wood for 2 more. Also, I am going to donate 5 pens for Health Care Workers. Haven't done a pen in a couple years. These are slim lines with a RN in clips.

  17. I finished one order and was hesitating on the next so I tried something else that scares me but is my own so I can screw it up without a problem. These are 13 hours into it -- unfortunately I have to start the next one so am shelving this for now -- maybe (or I could just be insane for trying this but it's working) 3/8 Baltic with a #1 modified geometry on a Pegas

  23. These are the projects I've worked on, and am working on, during this unfathomable period of time. The 3D-compound project was made with Mendocino redwood slats glued together; the bookends are not completed as they need to be glued and stained; the "Daddy's Hand" is for my son who's newborn boy spent the first two months of his life in the hospital; and the rocking reindeer is half inch baltic birch plywood with three different finishes (rubbed grey paint, medium walnut Danish Oil, and mahogany stain).

  24. I made an owl, from a photo I purchased. Now that it's hanging on my wall, I notice more and more mistakes I made. Smh at myself. @meflick my daughter is also sewing masks - so far she has donated more than 100 to charitable organizations who provide food to school children and to medical personnel.

  25. I've fortunately been able to spend some time in the workshop. I'm doing a series of this type to include a zebra and an elephant. Hopefully this is the first of many. Mt wife is busy making masks and they've been a huge hit.

  27. I have started to attempt things that I have not tried before and am unsure of. The first on my list is to master the use of epoxy with scroll sawn objects. I started this a couple of weeks ago and am documenting my successes and failures in the thread: In the meantime, here is a photo of my latest experiment which is currently underway: When (not if) I finally succeed, I will insert a photo of that project here: xxxxxxx

  28. I recently purchased a miniature dust collector. Octoolguy aka Ray made me aware of it. We both ordered one. The attached photo shows it in a plastic form. The ones we got were cast aluminum which are no longer available. I forget the measurements but the unit is like seven inches tall. I placed it in an Oggi container also available from Amazon. The thing is there are no complicated connections. The hoses are from my cpap machine. The are replaces every so often. They are also available from Amazon for $5.99 for a ten foot hose. The two orifices on the DC are one inch which is exactly the same size as the hose end. The slips in easily and firmly. The PVC fittings are just one inch pipe and fittings. It is sort of plug 'n play. The vacuum source is a very noisy Oreck hand vacuum and the dust collection is spectacular. Both on top and bottom. The photo next to the last is an old photo and shows one side capped which is no longer the case.

  29. hey that is so cool !!! now how did you do that? did you use a photo for the dog? or a picture?? and if you did did you use modpodg? im still trying to get working with modpodge down. for some reason the edges of the picture seem to come up sometimes.... i usuly try to make puzzles with clander pictures or from magainees and the like...what i do is first put some modpodge on the wood...then i put the picture down on the modpodged peace of wood right away...then i put modpodge on top to sort of seal the picture and wood together... then i put my puzzle pattern on the back...and cut it out.... and like i said usuly on some of the pieces the edges sort of curl up off the wood. i then try to take the modpodge and brush it on the pieces that are curling up to try to fix it. what am i doing wrong?

  39. I'd love to try some thing like that. And I may after I finish 3 other projects. You will make it. I find the modified geometry blades too aggressive for me on most thing, in fact I really only use them on 3D cutting. I do like the Pegas Skip Tooth blades thought and what I use most the time now. Please keep us posted. It is looking awesome. How big is it?

  42. Since four of my shows have been canceled I have spent some time doing some things that I have wanted to do in a long time but have put off. I have a mini split heat pump in my shop for heating and cooling. It wasn't designed for a super dusty environment like my shop. It has a filter in it but not adequate. When in use I had to blow it out every other day with my air compressor. Came up with this idea. The box hangs on a cleat for easy removal. I used foam around the bottom to seal it up. Time will tell how it works. I also built this lumber rack on wheel which I desperately needed.

  44. Because of the issues I have with my neck I rarely get to do scrollsawing. I have turned to other crafts/hobbies that are not so straining on my neck. I have many, many hobbies to keep me busy during this time so all is well. Yesterday we needs some groceries. Do NOT want to go into any stores we ordered our groceries on line from Walmart. They shopped for our requested groceries, bagged them and brought them out to our car and loaded them into our car. We were able to get what we needed and not endanger our health. Kudo's to Walmart.
