  2. Here are a couple of items i cut this week. Not a lot of time in the shop for now but I have gotten some. Here are the last two items I made. The Greyhound bus is one that I cut for myself about a year ago and have it hanging on my shop wall. It is a Sam Custodio pattern and my son made a comment that it was one of his favorite pieces, I have made. Well his birthday is in a couple of weeks, so I cut this one for him as an add on gift. The plaque. a lot of you will recognize as a Steve Good pattern and I choose to make this one for my wife for an Easter gift. I knew she would enjoy this one. So here is my contributions for now. I am working on a couple of other projects and will be posting them in the next few days. So you see, I am still alive and well. Dick heppnerguy

I think I had a pretty good day today -- starting to get the hang of it _ still need to work on my techniques

  10. Hi All New to scroll sawing... A couple of my hobbies include basic watch repair and servicing, and woodworking projects. I have a small work shop in my basement but it is pretty well equip for my needs. I recently combined both hobbies and starting making mantel clocks when I ran across people making clocks totally out of wood. I purchased a cheap wen scroll saw just to stick my toe in the water. After cutting my first gear I became very interested in learning more about scroll sawing. I seen some of the work you guys do here and can only hope I can get as proficient, Anthony

    Six Months Ago/Today

Village, I embarked on a journey last Oct when my neighbor gave me a 1990 13 inch Craftsman Scroll Saw. With your guidance and encouragement, I will mark this day with my first project ( Bottom) and the Jimi Hendrix (top) I just finished. Thank you for all the help and mentoring.

    Wooden Toy Bat Car

This toy might be the prettiest car I have made and one of the most challenging. I'm not sure what kind of wood it is. I thought it was spruce. For some reason, polyurethane would not cure on this wood without heating it in the oven. So I started using shellac. It works great.

  13. Hi all, I just finished this shark car, from team umi zoomi (my daughters favorite show), for her 2nd birthday present. It still needs some work, mostly minor, but this was the first project I've made tilting the cutting table on my saw and I learned alot doing so! I used screw eye hooks and cotter pins for the tail. Made with pine board. Also my first project using my dremel tool for alot of the shaping. I kind of liked sanding on this one. Very zen. Enjoy!

    This weekend's cutting

Well I have been staying busy. That's a good thing. Thanks to Russell for the word in word pattern and the rose is a modified Sue Mey pattern. Thanks for looking and have a great and safe day. Mimi

  15. While working on Sue Mey's 'Farm Viewed Through a Window': I realized that just the frame portion of the pattern would make a good picture frame. Therefore, I expanded that portion of Sue's pattern sufficiently to hold a 8 inch by 10 inch photo. Next, I cut the frame out of 6mm thick Baltic Birch plywood. I decided to try one more thing and to arrange things so that the picture in the frame was translucent and that there was a light source behind it. The photo chosen for the prototype is one of the sunset over Lake Pivabiska looking out from the porch at our cabin. I simply printed it on plain 'letter' size paper, then sprayed it with three coats of Rust-oleum clear satin rattle-can stuff: I glued some narrow strips of 3mm thick Baltic Birch plywood to the back in order to keep the photo in place: Then, two screw eyes were screwed into the top edge of the frame, some wire was attached to the eyes, and the frame was hung in our kitchen window: Now, I can enjoy the sunset at our camp without even being there. That's good, because we might not get there this summer. My next experiment will be with building a lighted box to place behind the frame behind the frame

    Good day

It’s a good day! After I got finished mowing, my order came from Ocooch Wood! Fast too, just ordered it Monday evening! Oh Boy! Fresh wood!!

  17. @Foxfold @Wilson142 here ya go. 3 pics. Not sure what order they will post in but in one pic you can see the convex end on the vac and the concave end of the OJ bottle. The next pic shows how well they mate together. I haven't hot-glued them yet. The 3rd pic is just to show that the bottle has the cap off of it. I used a hole saw to cut a hole in the bottom end of the bottle that matches the exhaust on the vac. Once I get everything figured out as to mounting etc. I'll glue them together and maybe shorten the neck on the bottle. I was blown away at how quiet it is with the bottle up against the vac without any seal so it will be even better once I hot-glue it together. The MicroVac is only 4" in diameter so it will fit up under my stand and not even be seen.

  18. Finally complete but for lacquer -- This is all Baltic Birch cut with a #1 modified geometry Pegas blade on a Pegas scroll sawFrom the ground up --There is a 1/4 backer with 3/4 added for a border (the blue)- then white letters are cut in 3/8 -- the black letters in 1/4 -- the gray and white border on the triangle is one layer 1/4 (gray 1/4 across) and one of 1/4 on top (white 1/8 across centered on the gray. The eagle is 1/2 mounted on a 1/8 backer mounted on the large backer of 1/8 and shaped with a Dremel edit : for some reason it reversed the order of pictures and I can't seem to fix it

  19. I posted a reference to one project earlier in this thread but there is another one I am now engaged in that is closer to the spirit of 'we are all in this together' that the pandemic is encouraging in most of us. That project is to create then mail simulated sunsets on Lake Pivabiska to may friends: I talk abut the project in the thread:

    Vase

The pattern for this Vase is by Steve Good. I used Poplar 1/4" and 3/4" pieces. It was cut at home using the EX21 and FD Polar #5 and FD UR #1 blades. Sanding took some time, but worked great with the Seyco Flex Drum Sander. The finish is spray Polyurethane Clear Gloss. Comments welcome.

    Hawk motor

That's exactly what I did.. I ended up taking the motor apart to separate and feel the bearing.. I also felt like there was a bad bearing in there.. but I put it back together with new bearings in the pitman arm and it's been running good since.. This was 2 years ago I did this.. I still see no way to actually change that big bearing.. It must be pressed onto the shaft.. as i was never able to separate the motor shaft from the bearing.. I was a little uneasy to get too aggressive with it.. I had the set screw out that was in that hole that you mentioned.. Anyway, glad to hear you was able to get it apart and do a good inspection and that you'll be back up and running soon..

  45. Great projects! As many of you know, my wife and I have had some really severe health problems and now problems with the insurance company so, I haven't scrolled much. Thanks to all those that have offered their prayers and a special thanks to two members here that I reached out to, to cry on their shoulders. Their prayers, their concern, and just letting me vent is greatly appreciated. Anyone that wants to take time to offer their prayers for my family would also be appreciated. I finally decided that since Judy Gale Roberts was kind enough to offer her Nurse Teddy Bear intarsia pattern FREE to help scrollers recognize nurses during these sad times I accomplished three of the bears. I have two nieces that are nurses and one sister that is a nurse so, they will receive these when I can deliver them. This photo was taken while they are still laying on wax paper with the first coat of polyurethane on them. God Bless! Spirithorse

    Six Months Ago/Today

Neat projects. I still have my first scrollsaw-- a little longer ego than yours though. I bought it new in the fall of 1953--yes it still works. No I do not use it much. It is very limited on the blade stroke and cutting ability; as it does not have any rotating parts of any kind! As the blade moves less than 1/6 inch it is the safest power tool in the shop. It started life as an 11 inch throat-- the best welder I ever knew lengthened it for me sometime in the early 1970's.
