    New Merle in Walnut

I made a few changes to my Merle Haggard pattern. My wife's cousin saw my original and asked me to cut one for her. I decided I can't give this one up so she gets the original. And the walnut blends better on my shop wall with Willie and Johnny. Backer is some two toned sawmill poplar with walnut stain.

  5. I have been working on a lantern. Posted under "another something new" so I won't post here. Also been cutting 22 , only 6 so far, of the 10 piece flower puzzle that Al Baggetta posted http://www.baggetta.com/pebooks/Free_CountUpToSpring/Count Up To Spring Flower Pattern.pdf These were going to be "Count down to Mother's Day" puzzles. My daughter is a teacher and I thought these would be great for her class to decorate and then give to their mom's. Covid got in the way. I also did this balloon as something to do that didn't require a great deal of thinking!!

  8. "Cannon to the right of them Cannon to the left of them Cannon in front of them Volleyed and thundered; Stormed at with shot and shell...." Every school child was bombarded with these poetry lines by Tennyson in school. The power of the military cannon was most important in war times past. Thought I would try to replicate a model of the old war cannons -- or at least come close. Here's my stab at it. I cut the cannon itself from a piece of 2 x 4 cut to size so that I could do a compound cut using my scroll saw. The wheels were also cut on the scroll saw and attached with a dowel to a platform, to which the cannon is glued. Well I won't go into detail, because it's all in the free pattern sheets.

    Six Months Ago/Today

Village, I embarked on a journey last Oct when my neighbor gave me a 1990 13 inch Craftsman Scroll Saw. With your guidance and encouragement, I will mark this day with my first project ( Bottom) and the Jimi Hendrix (top) I just finished. Thank you for all the help and mentoring.

  12. It's been a while since I posted anything here, so here goes: My youngest daughter is a real sports nut and collects all sorts of memorabilia. She asked if I could make a shelf to hold her bobblehead collection (I had recently made a shelf for her hockey pucks.) I looked around the Web and found a shelf in Steve Good's catalog and adapted it to the sports theme, replacing a girl and flower scene with hockey, football, baseball and basketball players. Not quite finished; this is a dry fit.

Here's a little sign that future generations can look back on as a reminder when asked "Do you remember what year that virus flipped the world upside down?" We won't soon forget 2020. 15. Wow Wow Wow! Everybody's been keeping busy, it looks like! Hope everyone is well; been a lifetime since I've been here (sorry to say) part of the reason being, ahem... (I forgot my password and sign-in and couldn't find them) lol Exciting news since my absence, I've gotten a new workshop/shed built; (new one is 16x24) this was built last year, and have been gradually been getting it completed. Last fall I had the electric installed, and over the last few months, the insulation and walls have started to go up, and Ken started to paint the walls today (with paint we had at the house) I was sent home Mar 23 and have been home since. Here's a few things Ken and I have done, starting with a Amazon knockoff of a curtain rod bracket, some Easter outdoor and indoor decorations, a giant Spring Tulip, my Christmas Show signs, ring dishes, tablet stands (Steve Good design) and an accent wall in our living room I've been wanting to do for at least three years. In the Christmas Show picture, I had some eye glass holders. They sold like crazy! As did the rabbit egg holders this spring. That pattern came from thingiverse.com, and I took it to a 2D pattern; cutting it to fit different sized eggs. The smallest being the Cadbury Egg holder. I need to work with it for next year, since I still have approximately 50 eggs to get rid of lol

    Amish couple

I cut this one just to give intarsia a try once more. I used to do only intarsia but got tired of them. It looks like I am losing some of my skills from being away from it so long so I might try a couple more to see if I can get back into the groove. Dick heppnerguy

  17. To oppose to what all of you are saying; Years ago I took an Adult Ed course at a community college. They had a half dozen expensive industrial table saws for teaching their carpenter students. NOT A GUARD IN SITE. It doesn't matter if you are operating a power tool, a car, bulldozer or a toothbrush. It is and will always be a matter of how careful, or careless do you want to be. jerry

  23. Here are a couple of items i cut this week. Not a lot of time in the shop for now but I have gotten some. Here are the last two items I made. The Greyhound bus is one that I cut for myself about a year ago and have it hanging on my shop wall. It is a Sam Custodio pattern and my son made a comment that it was one of his favorite pieces, I have made. Well his birthday is in a couple of weeks, so I cut this one for him as an add on gift. The plaque. a lot of you will recognize as a Steve Good pattern and I choose to make this one for my wife for an Easter gift. I knew she would enjoy this one. So here is my contributions for now. I am working on a couple of other projects and will be posting them in the next few days. So you see, I am still alive and well. Dick heppnerguy

  24. I am in love with this wood. It's called Black Limba and when I saw it I had a thought (usually a dangerous thing). But it worked!! This is also my second attempt at angle cutting on my scroll saw (the first is the plywood trial in the pics -- a disaster). My first I cut in the wrong direction. The design is also my own, I think, but after all the pics I looked through prepping for this - who knows

  27. I have done a number of scroll projects that I put in the bragging section - Happy Easter, Bear Walk, and more Bear Walk. But different for me in this time of isolation, I dusted off the lathe and participated in some club projects. Wig Stands for Cancer Patients - have done lots of these in the past and have got 3 done for this drive. Have wood for 2 more. Also, I am going to donate 5 pens for Health Care Workers. Haven't done a pen in a couple years. These are slim lines with a RN in clips.

  29. As you probably know, making straight cuts with a scroll saw requires a lot of concentration. As I outlined in the thread: I am going to be making a lot of frames to send to friends. Today, I cut 10 frames and each of those frames has 76 individual straight cuts. That's one heck of a lot of concentration. Here is photo of the stack of cut frames: I used a Flying Dutchman #5 Ultra Reverse blade and the wood I 6mm thick Baltic Birch plywood. I guess that I could have staked these at least two deep, but I am not fond of stack cutting.

  31. Had a good time cutting this portrait of Doc Adams from Gunsmoke. Pattern by @lawson56. 1/2" Red oak. About 5" X 7". When I'm cutting a portrait I usually take a picture of the back side after cutting the eyes, nose and mouth and post it on Facebook to see if anyone can guess who it is. Usually only have maybe one correct guess. Most everybody got this one right. Doc has some recognizable eyes.

  40. ok I made all of my kids some christmass presents according to what they are interested in. When I asked my youngest daughter what she would like she said she wanted a D & D screen to put on the table to sort of hide her books and notes and such... my ex husband and I started playing D&D back in the late 70s when it first came out so of course my kids learned to play to. now when they were younger I would make up D & D type games to go with there history lessons lol they had to really research the person they were playing and stick to the personaly of that person during the game.... it made the learning fun and entertaining lol it wasn't until they were grown that they relized what I was doing lol then they accused me of being sneaky!! lol can you immanage little old me being sneaky? lol any way my Heather now runs a D & D game of her own with her husband and there friends.... and as dungen master she wanted a screen... now I don't know where you could be buy such a thing and not having found any patterns on line for them I just sort of had to make my own patterns..... so what I did was grab 2 coloring book pictures that fit the D &D theam and another from a wood magazine I had and transferred the pictures to wood... then I took my trusty little dermal tool and bits... and sort of line carved and etched the pictures on to the wood... after those were finished I put a frame around each picture then put hinges on them so they would stand and be a screen.... then I wood burned the name of all Heathers direct relitives and all the pets name we ve had over the years in the bricks of the castle wall in the center frame. im not to sure how well the pictures came out bu t here they are::::this is the center piece... its a dragon with wings sort of sitting in the door way of a castle... you can't really see it but those black little lines or squiggles... that s where i wood burned all the names in the bricks ... sometimes i make things a litte more complex then just simple projects lol everyone one whos seen it has asked if i could do another screen maybe with different picture and how much would i charge to make them..... so far iv been able to sort of stear them to other things.... because of course i could make others but i have no idea how much to charge for such a thing!! lol i told my kids if they ever want to get a present for one of there friends to let me know and then i ll see what i can come up with for them... only thing is they wont be able to pick out the pictures they want done. lol i had thought about painting the pictures once they were done, but everyone told me NO !! lol to just leave it as it was so thats what i did. the only real problem i had with making this is that the 3 pannals wont fold down flat for carrying when going to some eles house or to be put away so i put little hook type things on the tops of the pictures so the screen can be hung on a wall and then taken down during game time. like i said i dont really know what kind of wood working you would call this but Heather liked it as did a lot of her frieds and thats all that really mattered to me. lol

    Vigilance

The pattern is by Charles Dearing. Some time ago, I asked "Brown or Black" for the backing. Brown was the overwhelming choice. This was cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #0 Spiral blades. The wood is 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood and backed with a dark brown mat board. Of course framed at ArtCrafters. Comments welcome.

  47. Welcome Darus. I see that you are just getting your site started and that, as yet, there are very few reviews, and no reviews at all of scroll saws. Are you planning to mention all types of saws? For instance: Will the site mention historic saws n longer in production? Will the site review non-powered-saws? Will the site review specialized saws such as small bandsaws used to cut glass?
