    Wow lots more done

Well I have been super busy. I got more done this weekend. Still have a stack of things to do so back at It I go. Who needs social distancing when I have a great hobby to keep me busy. Have a great day and stay safe. Mimi

  3. I saw this pattern by @Fish when I first joined SSV and have been wanting to cut it. I like smaller portraits so I just did from the elbows up because things were too small with his whole body in a small piece of wood. It's cut in 5/8" quarter sawn red oak, and is 7 3/4" X 7 3/4". I saw that you did another pattern with his left ear Dan but I preferred this one since it looks so much like the original picture. I used black canvas material for the backer. Thanks for a great pattern Dan.

    Columbo

Something different for a change. My daughter loves Columbo so I thought that I would cut it for her for when I eventually get to see her again in person. Pattern is by Dennis O'Donnell via FaceBook. 2.5mm Bamboo on a store bought frame. Marg

  6. Mother's Day is just around the corner and I have just the gift you can cut for her -- a nice thick MOTHER puzzle. This would look great displayed on a shelf or table, and it's fun to play with too. I cut mine out of 3/4" cherry and coated it with a clear spray. Sure to make mother smile. 7. Perhaps my eyesight is worse than other Hegner owners but when I thread the blade into the holder the blade and the holder are the same color making it confusing to my eyes. Sometimes it causes me to fiddle just a moment before getting the blade in the right position. Not a deal breaker but I painted the blade holder front white to give a bit of contrast.

  8. Something for the motor heads in the group. Admin If the topic is deemed inappropriate feel free to delete it. Between making saw dust I have been fulfilling another bucket list item. My workshop is full of the tools that I wanted and needed. So the profits from my sales had nowhere to go but burn out the bottom of my pockets. After 49 years of owning my Brit sorts car (TVR) It was time to get the motor tweaked. Completely rebuilt and properly tuned on a Dyno. All I need to do is bolt it back in after I clean up the engine bay and chassis. Went from about 90 HP to 148 HP in a 1700 pound car, should be fun. It is a 4 cylinder Ford 1.6 Liter now 1.7 Liter. The motor is hanging in my garage while I wait for the weather to warm up a bit so I can work on it outside, some wiring to do and my garage is too narrow for me to work around the car. The carburetors had been in a box in my basement for at least 30+ years.

  11. We are of the age that we are on the endangered species list. I found Instacart. I order my groceries, someone shops for me, while texting so I can approve what ever replacement might be necessary, I pay through the app. Groceries are delivered to my porch. NO CONTACT, NO GOING OUT. I may never go into another grocery store, they also do CVS. Now, if I could just find toilet paper.

    DeWalt Arm Lifter

Probably was too heavy of a spring.. Someday I'm going to have a Hegner to try out.. but the Hawk spring has just enough tension to raise it but not enough that I even notice to bring it back down.. Maybe it's getting worn some.. My older Hawk needs help sometimes for it to go up on its own.. so that shows how weak it is.. The newest Hawk I have not run in 4 months or so.. I do remember it having more tension on it to bring it back down.. but not a lot.. Much easier that the EX as you raise and lower it every time and that upper arm for a weak person could get quite tiring.. Especially someone that had some sort of health issues..

    DeWalt Arm Lifter

your are right about the round barrel type clamps. It may have had the auto arm lifter, I really am not sure. I never used it much. I know it is an extremely well made saw. It was just a hassle to use and when I got my DeWalt, I found it so much easier and nicer to use. You are very correct about the saw. It was still a great buy at $65 Dick heppnerguy

  15. Hi I'm wondering if anyone uses any kind of spray gun for scroll projects? I was using a spray can then started using a preval aerosol with water base deft varathane. The preval aerosol is about $10.00 Canadian so im wondering if anyone is using and inexpensive spray gun. I have a compressor and I see, Lee valley Canada sells a sprayer for about $56.00 I would not need a $300.00 unit , just something for scroll projects. Thanks Jim

  18. Nicely done! Sheila and Keith have a lot of beautifully designed word art patterns. As we all know, letters are some of the more difficult cuts to do well. That makes some of their patterns pretty challenging. Yours came out really well.

    DeWalt Arm Lifter

The woodshop at the Arizona RV resort I winter at has a DeWalt that someone has added a spring contraption to lift the arm. I've found it annoying for it to pop up when releasing a blade and tough to hold it down to reinstall. Maybe it's sprung too heavily or I didn't give it enough time before moving to another saw. On a related note, they have a couple new Delta saws. They have a button to push in the hold the arm up. However, the button is at the back and is a stretch to reach. Additionally, it allows the arm to come back down far enough to be useless. Couldn't wait to get back to my saw.

  23. I use the "Critter" spray gun for finish spraying. It only requires about 40 PSI and the spray material is in a pint "Mason" jar. The clean up is easy cause I have a jar filled with either acetone or thinner and switch jars when I am finished and spray that through the "gun" . If you get one make certain you get the one with the stainless feeding tube. The aluminum breaks easily. You can not alter the spray pattern but for finishing you don't need to. They are inexpensive and work well.

  27. As you probably know Ray, these kits are laser cut. I am not aware of any plans. I think those kits are not that expensive. It might be worth it to buy the kit and draw patterns from the existing parts. Just a thought.

    DeWalt Arm Lifter

I thought the same thing when I had the Jim Dandy easy lift on my DeWalt.. But then when I got the Hawk.. I realized how much simpler yet that they are.. The EX is better than the DeWalt as you don't have to buy / make things to make it stay up.. But after having used the Hawk with the spring loaded arm.. I just don't think it gets any better than that.. well also the Hegner too I think

    DeWalt Arm Lifter

I posted the arm lifter I made for my DeWalt. Now that I've used it over a year I can say that I can't imagine anything simpler or more efficient. The only thing that didn't come from my scrap box was the Genuine DeWalt screws I ordered to attach it. I wouldn't had had that expense if I wasn't so anal. Here's a link the the topic:

I understand your situation completely. Everybody has a different situation. That's why it's so ludicrous for them to keep saying we are all in this together. We may all be in the same storm but we are most all in different boats and some will make it far better than others.

Kevin, we go shopping at will. Some places demand a face covering but we have not been turned away anywhere. BUT we still have not been able to find good paper towels. Cheap ones are available at Walmart but those don't last long.

  40. I have a few higher end spray guns as I used to work the autobody business.. and spraying from the equipment seems like a very good idea IF.. you're able to set up and spray a lot of pieces at once.. Otherwise you'll spend about the same money every time you clean up the spray equipment.. Now.. you did mention water base.. and assuming you can do a good clean-up with just soap and water.. It may very well be worth the effort.. I know there are some folks on here that use spray equipment.. and have much success with it.. It doesn't work well for me as many of my items are "made to order" rather than a built up stock for in person shows.. so many times I'm only putting a finish on 1-2 pieces at a time.. the clean up time to clean the spray equipment would out weigh the cost of just using a spray can.. I don't know how hard it is to clean some of the cheaper spray guns but mine you have many pieces to take out and clean.. so you basically take the gun apart and clean up all the pieces etc.. I suggest a small spray gun rather than the larger ones.. maybe look at touch-up guns with smaller paint cup.. Years ago I bought a quart can of water based poly.. I never did open it up.. and I keep thinking I need to just do the spray gun thing.. a can of the stuff locally is about $8 ( I think 16 oz. can) and a quart is like $12.. so yeah.. If I got a small touch-up gun and could do several pieces at a time.. It's save me a lot of money.. and I probably will do this once I start running my CNC sign making business soon...

You know there are a few here that do above and beyond the extra mile in woodwork. And when you see their name come up in bragging rights, that it,s going to be just that. I,ve notice this alot with your projects!!! This group of people here need a rank something equal to the mile high club or something of that sorts. I myself love being wowed seeing your work!!!

  43. I bought it while stationed in England in the AF (1971). It had been purchased by another GI and built for export to the US so it was already left hand drive. It was last restored by me in 1998. I love the picture with my Jeep as it gives scale. Both pictures were taken in 2 years ago. Getting in and out is always fun.

  48. I have been working on a lantern. Posted under "another something new" so I won't post here. Also been cutting 22 , only 6 so far, of the 10 piece flower puzzle that Al Baggetta posted http://www.baggetta.com/pebooks/Free_CountUpToSpring/Count Up To Spring Flower Pattern.pdf These were going to be "Count down to Mother's Day" puzzles. My daughter is a teacher and I thought these would be great for her class to decorate and then give to their mom's. Covid got in the way. I also did this balloon as something to do that didn't require a great deal of thinking!!

  50. It's been a while since I posted anything here, so here goes: My youngest daughter is a real sports nut and collects all sorts of memorabilia. She asked if I could make a shelf to hold her bobblehead collection (I had recently made a shelf for her hockey pucks.) I looked around the Web and found a shelf in Steve Good's catalog and adapted it to the sports theme, replacing a girl and flower scene with hockey, football, baseball and basketball players. Not quite finished; this is a dry fit.
