    Forest scene.

Hi All, Here is a Sue Mey pattern. I decided to go with a natural edge on this occasion, maybe I will do the coat hanger in the future. A very nice and easy pattern to cut. I used Apple which I planed down to 6mm. Keep safe everyone All my best, Paul.

    Love

Hello friends, good morning. this is a job to be done with dremel As I do not have the necessary accessories, it was bad for me to do it. So I cut the letters with the scroll saw and glued them in relief. the result was not so bad, at least it did not go to the firewood LOL Greetings to all, I hope you are well

  3. We have a friend whom my younger daughter is a care taker for and her birthday is coming up in about a month. We should be in Oregon about the time of her birthday, so it will be perfect timing on our part. She has a Rottweiler who is her constant companion and she loves her dog a lot. So I thought she would probably really like one of these. I am not very happy with it but I have enough going on, right now that I do not want to do it over. Dick heppnerguy

  4. Because of all the different techniques involved – double dovetail joints, splined miters, wood hinge - this project has been in my to-do file for a long time. Self-distancing at home gave me the excuse to give it a whirl. My goal wasn’t any particular “style,” but I believe it looks Southwestern. Woods used are maple, walnut and mahogany

  5. I don't know if I mentioned it or not but my youngest daughter Heather is graduating from collage in June. She's spent the last 4 years going to collage an working full time... and getting very little sleep I might add.. well she s finished with her externship when they closed the schools down here in mich. im very proud of her!! I cant give her a party as I had planed but shes coming over today to drop me off some yarn and iv made a goodie box for her,. lol I would have put this on a table at a party for her but since we can't do that im sticking it in the box of goodies for her.. I wish her picture was clearer in the picture but oh well. im keeping 2 of these, one im giving to Heather and the other one im keeping for me...with her picture in it and a 2020 written on the bottom base . I got the pattern for these bubble head graduation picture frames from the winterfield collection I think.. I used to subscribe to them and got packits of there patterns every 3 months I think it was I might look into doing that again some day, not that I don't already have more patterns then I will ever be able to make lol

  7. I bought a new 14" saw from Grizzly 3-4 years ago.. Not had any issues with it.. My biggest regret is that I didn't get a bigger saw.. By the time I bought the riser block and other things to use as a resaw saw.. I had about as much money invested as a bigger saw would ave cost.. Other than that I've not had any issues.. I've heard a lot of good reviews from all three brands you mentioned.. I bought it specifically to re-saw because the power company came through and took a lot of trees down from around the lines.. I was planning to make myself some free lumber from the 3 foot sections that they left for me.. I quickly found out by the time I cut-dry-plane all this to size.. I had many more hours invested and my time was worth more than the lumber I created.. I did make a lot of board foot with this.. but I also had a whole lot of wood.. and ended up giving most of it to my neighbor to heat his house, LOL From a hobby standpoint it's fun to do and make your own lumber.. but from my business standpoint.. it was cheaper to just buy ready cut lumber and milled close to size..

  9. Not too fond of snails -- the real thing -- but if you look at them through the eye of an artist they are kind of cute, hauling the shell all over the place. Stewy isn't as handsome or colorful as Turbo, from the kids movie of the same name, but he can be just as fun to play with. Cut him out of 1/4" - 1/2" birch ply. Take Stewy apart and he sort of becomes a humpty -dumpty of snaildome. See if you can put him back together again. Most young children will love to try. They might also like to color or paint his parts. Download this free PDF pattern

  11. Iguanadon posted the Bear Pile pattern from Harvey Byler and it was really interesting. I cut that one and and the Bunny pile and sent them to my Grandkids. They really like them. And then, Don in Brooklin did something interesting in making a couple of the Bears in the Bear pile taller so they stood out. That was a very good idea and decided I needed to try it. I took some 3/4" Cherry and glued some 3/16" thick oak to the back of it. I cut both the Dog Pile and the Bunny Pile. After I cut a couple of pieces from each puzzle, I sent the remaining pieces through a drum sander and reduced the thickness of the rest of the pieces by about 1/8" and cut the rest of the pieces out. I then rough shaped the the pieces using a Dremel tool . After this I used strips of sandpaper to smooth out the rough cuts and bring out the details. I use regular sandpaper with packing tape on the back and cut to narrow strips. I also us cloth backed sandpaper. This is how the final puzzles look I make trays for the puzzles from a 1/2" Piece of Baltic Birch on top with a cut out and 1/4" Baltic Birch on the back. The trays make it easy for the Grandkids to put the puzzles away and not lose any pieces.

  13. I just read a rather lengthy topic about using a plunge router base for Dremel tools. A rotary tool base that no one mentioned was the Veritas Plunge Base for Rotary Tools. This one has been on my wish list for a while. Not only is it a precision made tool, but it is more versatile. It's a bit pricey, and if all you do is scrollwork, it is probably massive overkill. Stack Cutting

I have tried all of the above. I do lots of stack cutting especially for my Christmas ornaments. I use a Pin Nailer in the waste area. No muss and fast. I do it on an anvil and then flip it over and hit each pin with a small hammer, to make absolutely sure that the bottom surface is smooth.

  16. If you have time I would watch a the used market in your area for awhile. High end band saws show up on craigs list from time to time that are very lightly used. As a company I like Grizzly, if there is a problem their customer service is top notch. I would go there first and unless there was a compelling reason to go somewhere else I would buy from them. If I'm going to spend my money for something that expensive customer service, parts availability, and support are at the top of my list of must haves.

  17. I've been looking at bandsaws for re-sawing for quite awhile and if I had that budget, I'd go for the Laguna. Rikon second, and the Grizzly a distant 3rd.

  18. Here's a rather inexpensive little gift you can make for mom. It's my design for a table top lantern, lit by a tealight candle or by a free flashlight you can get from Harbor Freight. These are usually offered as freebies with purchases. DO NOT USE A REAL BURNING CANDLE. This is wood and you know what happens to wood when fire meets it. There are three different patterns in the ebook, I only cut out the first. I lined the inside of each panel with some regular printing paper to diffuse the light and just glued the panels together. You could make a top or bottom for it if you like. Free patterns and project on my FREE PATTERN page.

  22. I own a Grizzly G0457 band saw. Initially it worked great, until it didn't. It might have been something I did, or not. I'm not avoiding responsibility here. My problem with the brand is that there are no locally authorized repair shops. They have two service centers one in Bellingham, Wa and one in Missouri. The saw weighs about 300 lbs. so shipping would be prohibitive from a cost standpoint. Their customer service is accommodating, but have been unable to help. Until I have a reason to be in either one of those locations, I guess what I have is a heavy expensive coat hook. Jim

thanks for the video. I enjoyed watching it. The engraver sure has some advantages, but at my age, I am not even going to look at them. I have enough money put out for my hobby already, but they have some fun things one can use them for. Dick heppnerguy

    opinion on new bandsaws

My nephew bought the new Rikon 14 inch saw, A very impressive machine, with lots of great features. Regarding Grizzly , a good friend bought a 8 Jointer, a brand new model, vibrated like crazy, hard to believe considering how heavy it is. Grizzly was never able to resolve it. He basically ended up changing everything that moved and still no go. he even ordered the helix head from Grizzly for it only to find out from them that "oh yeah" it doesn't fit this model. I am not sure what the final resolution was since I have not seen him since this Corona crap. Bottom line not impressed with how Grizzly handled this. The machine is sitting on a concrete floor absolutely level and solid.

No worry,s Dan!!! I need to be in a zone to tackle something like this.I really needed to do this to unwind from doing quick and easy stuff. I did learn a lot with the #3 blade is that pieces are cut gently with this fine tooth blade. So breakage is at a bare minimum in close proximity of other cuts!!!

    Stack Cutting

Ha, @NC Scroller, you say no mess.... you should see me with a hot glue gun.... strings of hot glue every where.... on everything..... I have never figured out how to use one, I guess...

    Stack Cutting

Hot glue gun. No mess. No waiting. As soon as the glue the last corner I put the pattern on and start cutting. If I took the time to do all those little things I want to do around the shop my scroll saw would never get used.

    Just finished

The third guy is on COVID-19 quarantine and couldn't join the others! That's where the "modified" comes in at...lol. I cut just a single 1/4" piece, and by time I got to the 3rd guy it was small. He was the last of the guys to be cut, and although I hadn't cut the open background out yet there was a lot of bouncing movement...his head and right arm broke! I was just going to trash it, then I thought maybe I could glue it. After looking at it, the other two were almost centered, so I thought I would just "make guy #3 disappear" and if it looked too bad when I finished it...into the trash it would go, as my first thought! I thought it looked OK and finished it. I've got a ton of likes on a couple other forums I'm on. Only us "old farts" would know that there is normally a 3rd guy...and most of us have forgot...LOL!

that is fantastic!!! i love seeing all the work you people do.... for some reason when im doing fret work on baltic burch if its got to many inside cuts...it sort of splinters if you know what i mean...and if i try to make cuts that are real close together i find that i often have a problem with pieces breaking off.... i try to always stack cut when im doing fret on baltic burch in the hopes that the layers won't splinter and i wont break off any pieces... is there some kind of trick to this that the books havent told me about? these problems are the main reason i dont try to cut more complex and challanging work. if i have these problems with the simpler stuff im afraid trying something harder would be a disaster. just woundering.

  42. she did love it!! she and her husband drove over and spike took the box of goodies out to her and put it in there car, and i could see from the windo how much she loved it. she refusied to come inside to see me and spike wouldn't let me go out so all i could do was talk to her for a sec through the closed windo and then wave her goodby. now for a little venting... cause who else do i have to vent to. lol if my family dosnt stop treating me as if im some kind of fragial sick little old lady im going to smake every last one of them up side the head!!! grrr....all my siblings and children and there spouses keep telling me there not going to vist or like heather they wont come inside because of all my health issues... even spike is making me feel like some kind of invalid....telling me i cant go outside and hug my 5 foot 9 baby girl...now i told spike to knock it off unless he wants a smake up side the head!!! lol which is why i dont let them know the real conditions of my health problems lol if there treating like i have one foot in the grave now ... i shudder to think how theyd treat me if they really knew my condition... ok venting finished.... on a lighter note i did finally get my birthday present from her.... a granny squares afgain.... to go with the other afgain she gave me a few years ago...lol both are of course beautiful!!! well hope everyone is having a great evening

  46. I thought I'd combine an inlay with a bit of scroll-sawing -- this is the result. The design was repurposed from a Steve Good pattern, and the inlay was inspired by my wife's new crocheting product — a red squirrel (https://irresistiblecreatures.com/) which is also below.
