    Napkin Holder

Pattered by Steve Good. I used cherry wood. This took me a long time. My first try I broke it. I’m happy with the results and it is now on my dining room table.

    Interesting new item

My lovely wife had a custom branding iron made for me with a secondary logo I use for my little woodworking hobby. My main logo has too much minute detail for the iron maker to recreate well. The iron works great to burn in my logo on some of my larger pieces. I am still playing around try to figure out the proper burn time and pressure but it will come. I came up with the idea of cutting out the burn for a wooden “business card” if you will to hand out at shows and fairs. Sort like the idea and the cost is minimal as I can use scrap. The finished product is 2 inch diameter a bit larger than a poker chip. Comments welcome.

Looks good Kevin! You need to post a pic of you wearing your mask so we can recognize you if we ever run into you!

  9. @Annis, this is why I asked a long time ago for folks to add their location to their signature. It would make it so much easier for all of us to help folks if we knew where they are located. Unless I missed something above, I don't know where you are. I am in Southern California and if you want to buy a Hawk saw, I have a VERY good clean one that I will sell you for that same $475 that you mentioned. It has less than 25 hours on it and has all the good stuff on it. It shines like a brand new one. I would not be selling it but it is just too big for my little shop. It is a 226VS Ultra in MINT condition. I would go so far as to put a 1 year warranty on it. But, I don't know where you are.

    Dog and Bunny Piles

Iguanadon posted the Bear Pile pattern from Harvey Byler and it was really interesting. I cut that one and and the Bunny pile and sent them to my Grandkids. They really like them. And then, Don in Brooklin did something interesting in making a couple of the Bears in the Bear pile taller so they stood out. That was a very good idea and decided I needed to try it. I took some 3/4" Cherry and glued some 3/16" thick oak to the back of it. I cut both the Dog Pile and the Bunny Pile. After I cut a couple of pieces from each puzzle, I sent the remaining pieces through a drum sander and reduced the thickness of the rest of the pieces by about 1/8" and cut the rest of the pieces out. I then rough shaped the the pieces using a Dremel tool . After this I used strips of sandpaper to smooth out the rough cuts and bring out the details. I use regular sandpaper with packing tape on the back and cut to narrow strips. I also us cloth backed sandpaper. This is how the final puzzles look I make trays for the puzzles from a 1/2" Piece of Baltic Birch on top with a cut out and 1/4" Baltic Birch on the back. The trays make it easy for the Grandkids to put the puzzles away and not lose any pieces.

    BOTAS motorcycle

Been wanting to do this a long time. And next time it will be bigger. This baby,s a full 16.5" x 10.5/8" in 1/4" 3 ply plywood cabinet backer I found or salvaged. I spent a lot of time sanding and detailing but the finish coat raised all the slivers everywhere.cut with FDScroll reverse #3 blade. Good practise piece. I spent my extra time in 3 or 4 days and cut till tired. Rattle can primer & top coat.

Hi everyone, just finished this for a my sister in law who's a nurse in California. It's one of Sue Meys patterns. I stacked cut two of them out of 1/8 B/B ply with a 1/4 inch backer. Hope she likes it.

Me too Les but here on SSV it's like family and it just makes things so much easier. Somebody asks where to buy wood. That is no different than asking "how high is up?"

    opinion on new bandsaws

From what I see, the Jet is damn near identical to the Shopfox. I've had my Shopfox, oh I'd say 6 or 7 years. I use it a lot. The only trouble I've had is the on/off switch. Piece of cake to replace it. I have zero complaints and I like my saw, it does what it's suppose to do.

  33. Ratdatelle, No lol I got the pattern I think from the winterfield collection a few years ago, I used to belong to there pattern club. Heather did indeed love it. !!! and I kept one for me with her picture in it. I was thinking its a shame that that's the only bobble head pattern I have and then I got to thinking...even though I cant draw I think I might be able to make my own patterns for different ones...It uses 1/4 in wood and is basically a body and a head....now if I can find some people patterns to trace...and im pretty sur I can...I could just enlarge or reduce the pattern to size, cut the head off and trace the picture onto wood and just cut it out and paint it. Of course the detail might not be as much as on the picture but as long as you could tell what they are it should be ok... so now im looking for pictures ( I think coloring book type pictures would work best) to print and cut out and see how it works... I don't see where I would have to much trouble turning the pictures into bobble heads...so im off to go in serach of coloring book type pictures lol

    DeWalt question

dont buy an new excalibur! they are now made in china and not the quality of the ones from 5-6 years ago. king scroll saws are made in taiwan by the company that used to make the excalibur. older excalibur made in taiwan are good saws. doug

    DeWalt question

@annis, I bought my Dewalt type 1 in Jan of this year. I asked here and had a ton of insight. Like you, I started to become nervous about buying an old saw, but what I received is an absolute dream. I fall in love with it every time I cut in it. Just remember to take into consideration of all these great comments and use them for an informed decision. In the end, it is up to what you decide. Each person has their own experiences, some good, some not so good. I hope this helps.

    DeWalt question

Ok all this is making me nervous about buying used. The pictures of the RBI he posted include everything but the serial plate, which I see but can't read. Makes me suspicious. He want $425. What can y'all tell me about a new Excalibur 16 or new Jet® JWSS-18B 18'' Scroll Saw The Jet resembles the Ex ; Is that a coincidence ? are these reliable AND can you get replacement parts? Thanks
    1 point
  37. The Axminster EX type saws are made in the same factory as King, Jet, Seyco, Pegas, and Carbatec. Seyco and Jet are further from the original designs than the others. Pegas has slightly deviated. King and Axminster, and Carbatec are probably the closest of any of the saws to the original designs. I will note that Axminster and Carbatec have other saws besides the Excalibur types.

  45. Howdy folks! I'm Steve. I recently became a member and I would like to introduce myself. I've been looking around on the fourm for awhile and liked what I've found so much that I wanted to join up. I live in Texas, just outside Waco. I call my woodshop Cross Timbers Wood Crafts. I've been a woodworker for a long time but I didn't start scrolling until 2016. I've still got a long way to go before I can call myself an accomplished scroller, but I'm learing as I go. I wish I'd found this fourm back in 2016. My first scroll saw was an old Delta. It was difficult to change blades and vibrated so bad that I didn't want to use it. So I bought a DeWalt 788 (which I promptly renamed Lemon 788). It had problems right out of the box. There was always something wrong with it. I know there's many who like the 788, I guess I just got a bad one. Now I have a Seyco ST-21, and I must say that my cutting has improved with the Seyco. I just need more time on it. Well, now that you know a little about me, I'm looking forward to getting to know y'all and be part of the group.

The Jet has a unique upper blade clamp that clamps down on the blade as you tension it. And it has a lower blade clamp that is not fixed like a hawk. This design is great for bottom feeding only. You can not top feed. For this reason, I would never own one.
