    Basket weave

Another great pattern from Steve Good. This is a basket , the wood is popular, I stained the top and bottom with golden oak and the rest is black walnut.

    Just for me ...

Tony is making me my own workshop so I thought I'd make something to go in it. It will hang on the wall above my saw to remind me. I hope it doesn't matter that it wasn't done on my saw but with my router. !! A Sam Custodio pattern.

  3. I took another one of Steve Good's patterns but reduced the size to match what stock I had to make these picture frames. They will hold 3.5" x 5" photos instead of the 4"x6" he originally called for and are made from curly red oak. These five are for my two daughters, two of my great-nieces, and my cousin's granddaughter. Although I originally made these just because, my eldest will turn 22 tomorrow and so the one set up for landscape pictures is her birthday gift. The four dark ones have a black cherry stain with a lacquer finish while the light colored frame has just lacquer on it (that great-niece said she wanted a light colored object - still not knowing what). 4. I made the pattern for this from a drawing I found online. You all know what a fondness I have for Old West themed projects. There are six gunfighters in this picture. This one is 11x14x1/8" Baltic Birch.

    Don McFarland pattern!

A few days ago, I posted a pic similar to what I’m posting, looking for the pattern. Mr. McFarland created this below and sent it to me! I think he did a great job. This will be for my department at the VA in Birmingham Al.

    Mineral oil question

This has probably been asked & answered before but my search skills never find what I need. I finished the bowl I've been working on and dipped it in natural Watco oil. Can I now apply a couple of coats of mineral oil / bees wax mixture? If the answer is yes, is it something that will need to be refreshed from time to time or is it "one & done"?

  9. Last fall I moved my shop from the garage to the barn. The shop vac that I use for Scrollsaw an sanders started to lose suction. Checked the dust deputy bucket and it was almost empty. Checked the vac and it was completely plugged up. Couldn’t figure out why the dust deputy quit working. Been working great in old shop! After much head scratching I figured out I had put the suction hose on the wrong port!!

  10. I cut this fun pattern by @lawson56 of The Monkeys for my shop wall today. Got in a rush to finish and nailed the backer to the front. Not my first time to do this. Thankfully the back side looked about as good as the front in this case. I loved watching these guys on Saturday mornings as a kid, so I'll enjoy seeing them on my wall. Even if it's a mirror image. 1/2" oak, about 6 1/2" X 9"

    My Basket Weave

Tammi201 drew my attention to the Steve Good pattern for this basket in the thread: that she posted yesterday. I immediately made my version of the basket using Figured Maple for the sides and Walnut for the top and bottom. As Tammi said in her thread this is surprisingly easy to make. The only difficult part, for me. was gluing everything together.

    Tomato whisperer

This is an Al Bagetta plan. The overlay is red Cedar and the backer board is a local grown Oak. The stake was cut from a 4x4 redwood post. I cut two ad I have tomato plants in two different locations, however, my wife commandeered one to give to her girlfriend who is growing tomatoes also.

  15. If you find your self a bit board you might want to try this little fun puzzle I've created for you. First, use the pattern to cut out these individual race car puzzles from 1/4" birch ply or some other scrap wood you have lying around. Then mix up all the piece in a coffee can. You can now use this as a competition with a friend to see who can build a race car the fastest. In the process you can trade (or nastily withhold) pieces your opponent might need to finish. Or you can play by yourself to see if you can put the two cars together in record time. Use your imagination and have fun. Download free pattern.

  16. Well after almost a year out I am finally able to walk about and also get to my saw although for only small amounts of time but I am upright which is always a bonus. I have made a few things recently will add to my album at some point I did check in now and then but just as a spectator , hoping to now move along a lot quicker and get some vinyl back on here . been a while since some vinyl got posted so only right I do something about that As it has been a while I have attached a few of my cuttings I have done and I even added one in wood to show my saw does do wood too. Good to be back and I hope to be back on here more in the near future and helping with patterns etc as I used to before my op. Good to see some of the usual names here still and I Thank the ones who sent me messages asking where and how I was it meant a lot . Stay Safe all and I hope to post more soon once the Nurse (wife) lets me outside more to me workshop .

  17. Hello friends, I hope you are in good health. This pandemic is affecting us all, we are isolated without being able to work normally. But it also gives us time to learn new things. I show you my last work done with dremel, now in wood. Thank you in advance for your comments. A greeting and a big hug for everyone.

  19. Simple little project. Still hoping to get to Arizona late this month to see my daughter. These have 1/4" rare earth magnets countersink on the back so they will stick to the fridge. I have quarters coming for the empties.

  24. Thank you Marg, It did take a little longer to cut.. but not extremely longer.. I knew something was off.. but didn't even consider the blade.. I thought it was just me as I haven't used that saw in quite a long time and they do cut very different from the Hawk that I normally use.. then the dust sticking to the pattern I just blamed it onto the new shipping label papers that I printed the pattern on.. but I was struggling a bit to stay with the lines and normally I don't have such struggles with that..again just thought it was being on the more aggressive saw. It really didn't come out too bad.. I may start using both ends of the blade to save on blades

  25. well heres some pictures of some stuff iv made. the first one is just a heart box I made...I put red felt on the bottom inside and then tried to inlay the rose. then theres the 2 welcome butterflys...I stacked cut them on 2 different shades of Baltic burch then just switched the insides parts of each, somewhere or another I found a piece of hard wood so I took my book on making these kind of bowls and made the little dinosaur one. I had fun cutting that one out...now I just have to wait for some more hard wood to fall into my lap so I can another one. lol like I said I have a whole book of these kinds of bowls the next one is a combound cut dragon holding a little plastic purple heart..and last but not least my cute little layered angle pig. I cut out the pig and the looked in my craft room for wings lol there a gold kind of thin metal and all I had to do was glue them on lol well I guess my breaks over so I should get back to doing something around here lol

    DeWalt Arm Lifter

Saw a thread a couple years ago about these lifters but no way was I going to pay for that because I know better and can figure something out myself. lol I had my saw in the garage so I put it right under the open garage door and put a ring into the garage door. When it was open I just wrapped a long bungee cord around the arm of the saw and hooked it to that ring in the garage door. worked great. take that and your $50 lifter. Of course I forgot i was hooked up and got up and slammed the garage door closed and heard something smash into it really loud. uh oh. Opened the door and the saw was dangling there by the bungee wrapped around the upper arm. Lesson learned. Dont connect your saw to a giant swinging door.

    Mineral oil question

My concern with using mineral oil at this point, is that you've already sealed the pores of the wood, to some degree, with the Watco. Mineral oil never dries. It simply soaks into the wood. I'm not sure what will happen if you apply it over the Watco. If you have beeswax, I would simply melt a little down and rub it on, over the Watco and skip the mineral oil. Or for the benefit of science and the rest of us on the forum, you could do a test on some left over scraps. Finish it with the Watco, same as the original piece, then try the mineral oil/beeswax mix. See what happens. It may be fine, but I wouldn't try it on the final piece without testing first.

    Mineral oil question

Interesting bowl and very nice inlay. As far as the mineral oil and wax, it is not a durable finish. If the bowl is used much it will need refinished. I do this on some wooden kitchenware, and all you need to do is rub some on the bowl (I use my hand to apply it, it is actually good for your hands), let it set for a while, then buff it up. Tom

  39. Hello Kris, yes, first I drew the pattern on the glass with carbon paper, as you can hardly see it, I remarked it with indelible ink and it was easier that way. Another technique would be to put the pattern inside the bottle, stick it on the inside and start working directly, and in the end you remove the inner paper, I hope the advice will help, regards.

  48. domain (Dan), I got the original pattern off the internet a few years ago and I'm sorry that I can't direct you to a web site for it. But, here is a picture of the printed template that I used, if that would be of interest. The Phoenix Raceway is in Avondale, and is just over 14 miles from my house, which is in Goodyear. I'm not a race fan, but I do enjoy hearing well-tuned cars. There's something invigorating about hearing those engines. I heard the NASCAR Championship was to be here in January, I think. With this coronavirus though, I wouldn't place any bets on it.

  49. Lockdown projects - I like this idea!! Actually, my year of new projects started long before the lockdown but I've managed to start/complete quite a few over the past few months. And now, with the latest complete, another is on the table with the first couple pieces cut already. First pic is what I've managed to complete, center & bottom is the new project and my progress so far. The American Legion sign was/is over 60 years old and was showing its age rather plainly. Looks pretty good now, restored to her original greatness.
