    First completed bowl

This is my first completed bowl (I'm working another but it still needs work - experimental idea). The wood is 3/4 Black Limba. It screamed "Take Me" when I saw it at the store so I did. I also did a serving tray from that same piece of wood. The bowl is 15 inches long by 12 wide -- The tray is another post earlier. Need much more practice definitely but I'm happy with it as a first -- Finished with Danish oil and spray oil Poly

    School plaque.

Hi everyone, just wanted to put this on. Russell was able to add the bottom and name for me. Allso Dave did a pattern for this to but she went with Russell. This is a Steve Good pattern with the name addition. It's 7 inches in diameter. P.S. These are her school colors.

  7. The items that immediately come to mind are the two Spring themed Welcome Plaques that we hand on our front door (only one at a time ). The first one is a Sheila Landry design: The second is my design but incorporates bird patterns that I purchased from Sheila: Right now, the second plaque is on our door to welcome visitors (I'm sorry to say, from a distance of 2 metres).

Nice Job!! I did a few of those last year but I blew them up larger and made easter baskets for all my grands -- Yours came out much better though (paint hides some things)

  9. I just love this pattern from Steve as I used to make as the hostess gift till I ran out of friends. I also made with one extra layer and a thicker top and bottom and divided the interior to make a pencil holder. Used cheap pine and was a great gift.

Another great pattern from Steve Good. This is a basket , the wood is popular, I stained the top and bottom with golden oak and the rest is black walnut.

  11. Hello everyone, my name is Graham, I'm new to scroll sawing, but not to the world of Arts & Crafts. I enjoy drawing, painting and anything that can be hand made. I'm looking forward to this new adventure. Keep well and as important stay safe. Graham.

  12. I took another one of Steve Good's patterns but reduced the size to match what stock I had to make these picture frames. They will hold 3.5" x 5" photos instead of the 4"x6" he originally called for and are made from curly red oak. These five are for my two daughters, two of my great-nieces, and my cousin's granddaughter. Although I originally made these just because, my eldest will turn 22 tomorrow and so the one set up for landscape pictures is her birthday gift. The four dark ones have a black cherry stain with a lacquer finish while the light colored frame has just lacquer on it (that great-niece said she wanted a light colored object - still not knowing what). My Basket Weave

Tammi201 drew my attention to the Steve Good pattern for this basket in the thread: that she posted yesterday. I immediately made my version of the basket using Figured Maple for the sides and Walnut for the top and bottom. As Tammi said in her thread this is surprisingly easy to make. The only difficult part, for me. was gluing everything together.

    Mom's Cream Can

My mom was kind of a homespun artist. A lady born and raised on the North Dakota prairies with a fourth or fifth grade education. In spite of her lack of a formal education my mom had so many accomplishments. The painted cream can is a sample of her work. Our home was so unique people would come to visit the inside. It was kind of a very nice mini museum. Our yard was equally unique A good portion of the yard was decorated with geometric designs made of colored glass. My mother collected buckets of Noxema, 7-Up bottles, Pond's Creme and other colored glass. She would smash them and shake them for hours until the the sharp edges were worn off. She would use these to make colorful designs in the yard. In the fall all the glass was picked up, washed and saved till the next spring. She was a glutton for hard work. Sorry for the rambling but I've always been so proud of her!

    Blade opinion

One thing I have learned about blades . If it works for you and your cutting style then everyone is happy . I use FD blades, I like them and they fit my style really well. I have tried other blades and not had the success with them I thought. Like a lot of others, I have followed the discussions on the Pegas MG blades and it piqued my curiosity so I tried them. To me I just prefer the FD. I'm am quite sure that given enough time and practice any blade could be learned and mastered. A good example would be spirals for those that don't use them a lot. I can go between spiral and flat with little problems, although this was not the case when I first started using spirals, took a while to learn them . Just like starting out scrolling, practice and patience has a huge effect on the outcome of many aspects of this hobby. Be patient, practice, learn and enjoy the experience . Of course this is just my opinion and experience through my never ending learning curve.

  16. Never heard of Black Limba. But had a shop teacher tell me he “could build a world around what I don’t know an put what I do know in a thimble”. Nice bowl and wood!

  17. Been scrolling off and on for guessing 30 years. The internet in general has probably been the most helpful to me than anything. Patterns, forums, ordering supplies has all made a huge difference in the scroll saw world. I started using a Craftsman then had a few cheaper deltas. Now I have an excalibur and recently found a really good buy on a jet saw. When I first started I was basically self taught so had a lot to learn. Used carbon paper to trace patterns lol. I still don't consider myself a great scroller and it is only a hobby for me. Just something I started doing and I find it is relaxing to me.

it was one of these Steve Good box patterns that started me in scrolling. I was making intarsia and getting tired of how much time they took, but not interesting in scrolling because I thought it was all about silhouettes and nothing more. As I was looking on the computer, I came across one of Steve Goods box patterns and was amazed that something like this could actually be cut on a scroll saw, so I had to give it a try. And like you, I found them not very difficult to make and quite attractive little pieces. So now i do mostly scrolling and love it a lot. I still think intarsia is a great media and I do one every now and then, but I enjoy scrolling more. My intarsia skills are not as good as they once were but one now and then is OKeh to do. I am happy for you, that you gave this a try and I bet we will see you cutting more of them in the near future. there are many box patterns out there for free. Dick heppnerguy

    Don McFarland pattern!

A few days ago, I posted a pic similar to what I’m posting, looking for the pattern. Mr. McFarland created this below and sent it to me! I think he did a great job. This will be for my department at the VA in Birmingham Al.

    Rhino toy

This is what I made today, along with 103 toy trucks. I just found an image of a Rhino and cut it out of 3/4" sugar pine. I like this, so I plan to make at least fifty of them. Our club donates toys to local children's hospital and The Salvation Army & to Ronald McDonald House.

  26. This pattern is part of my Western theme cuttings. Nothing like a beautiful horse in full gait. I submit to you one famous horse called Cochise, owned by none other than Little Joe. You remember him from the popular show Bonanza. If you recall the horse he was a sturdy paint with white spots. I did two versions of this art piece. One of them has the spots of the horse raised in the wood. The wood is stained a dark color and the spots left in the original color. The other piece has the spots removed from the body and open air shows behind the running steed. I also used the base slightly modified so that it hints at the silhouette of the horse. Makes for an interesting piece. Download from Free Page

  27. Last fall I moved my shop from the garage to the barn. The shop vac that I use for Scrollsaw an sanders started to lose suction. Checked the dust deputy bucket and it was almost empty. Checked the vac and it was completely plugged up. Couldn’t figure out why the dust deputy quit working. Been working great in old shop! After much head scratching I figured out I had put the suction hose on the wrong port!!

  28. The air switch is too complicated and expensive. I control my dust collector. With a remote control switch, I purchased at Lowe's in an after Christmas sale several years ago. It controls three outlets. There are a lot of these for sale on amazon.

  30. Will that would be something a person from Winchester would do(lol). My uncle grew up in Winchester and he did stuff like that. All kidding aside I plugged the cyclone on my dust collector and didn't realize it until I had to start ducking chips coming out of the planer.

    Blade opinion

I used FD for years then switched to pegas. I had the opposite experience of you. The FD blades I had to cut feeding into the blade at an angle due to the way they are made. After awhile didn’t have to think about it. But the Pegas blades the first time using took some getting use to due to them cutting straight, for me.

  38. You are not alone with gluing the wrong side, I too am among the many who have. I usually just wash off the clue and redo it. I have even spray glue, thinking I had a clear finish can in my hand.. Your piece came out quite well, in spite of the small error done. because it had no words in it, it really does not matter Dick heppnerguy

  39. Yes he is. Even not knowing of him the movie would be worth a watch. He was just such a gentle, soft spoken, amazing man that it might make you wonder if he was really like that or was it just an act. But yes, he was. If you've got 4 minutes this is an amazing clip of the real Fred Roger testifying before the Senate in 1969.
