    '57 Chevy Bel-Air

Just finished a 3/4 view of a 1957 Chevy Bel-Air convertible. I had been a request from Heppnerguy. As usual, the design took longer than the cutting. 8 day/4 day. Plaque is 17 x 10 on BBPW with 1/4" backer. I also did a video of the project that I am still editing and because of the size, I will have to post on YouTube. I'll update this posting once I'm done. Mom's Cream Can

My mom was kind of a homespun artist. A lady born and raised on the North Dakota prairies with a fourth or fifth grade education. In spite of her lack of a formal education my mom had so many accomplishments. The painted cream can is a sample of her work. Our home was so unique people would come to visit the inside. It was kind of a very nice mini museum. Our yard was equally unique A good portion of the yard was decorated with geometric designs made of colored glass. My mother collected buckets of Noxema, 7-Up bottles, Pond's Creme and other colored glass. She would smash them and shake them for hours until the the sharp edges were worn off. She would use these to make colorful designs in the yard. In the fall all the glass was picked up, washed and saved till the next spring. She was a glutton for hard work. Sorry for the rambling but I've always been so proud of her!

    Stack cutting

I read a post the other day on stack cutting and thought I’d try it. I can’t find the post again to credit the person for the idea. I used reclaimed oak flooring from a house that’s getting renovated.

    Too Much Trouble

This 6x9” Stevie Ray Vaughn cutting is a case of too little of a good thing. Again, I decided to cut a slightly modified Charles Dearing portrait much smaller than the artist intended.Actually, only the guitar was too difficult. I used mainly a combination of Pegas 2/0 spirals and Pegas MG 2/0 and MG #1s with micro drill bits. 1/4” Baltic Birch mounted on 3/4” Pine, stained True Black.

    Repair Project

Here's a little project where my scroll saw was handy. We purchased a set of wrought iron patio furniture a couple years ago. The paint was in sad shape and there were several spots where it was oxidizing. With the Stay At Home order it seemed like a fine time to restore it. I gave the pieces a good TSP bath and rinse. Then with an angle grinder and wire brush cleaned up all the rust and loose paint. Finished with a new coat of flat black. What has this to do with a scroll saw? Several of the feet had lost their plastic inserts and so I took a UHMW cutting board from the kitchen. Made it 2" shorter and cut circles on the scroll saw and epoxied them onto the chairs. Worked fine.

    Just for me ...

Tony is making me my own workshop so I thought I'd make something to go in it. It will hang on the wall above my saw to remind me. I hope it doesn't matter that it wasn't done on my saw but with my router. !! A Sam Custodio pattern.

    School plaque.

Hi everyone, just wanted to put this on. Russell was able to add the bottom and name for me. Allso Dave did a pattern for this to but she went with Russell. This is a Steve Good pattern with the name addition. It's 7 inches in diameter. P.S. These are her school colors.

    Blade opinion

Blades are of ones own choosing . I have tried them all and I keep coming back to olson's . for me dthey seem to outlast all others.FD or pages. I guess that is the reason there is so many brands. IKE

  17. I cut this fun pattern by @lawson56 of The Monkeys for my shop wall today. Got in a rush to finish and nailed the backer to the front. Not my first time to do this. Thankfully the back side looked about as good as the front in this case. I loved watching these guys on Saturday mornings as a kid, so I'll enjoy seeing them on my wall. Even if it's a mirror image. 1/2" oak, about 6 1/2" X 9"

    Need some help

My fellow Aussie scrollers. I have a customer that wants a woody of the singer Pink. For me to send from Canada would be needlessly pricey and I doubt it would survive the trip. Hope I'm not wrong but I suggested to her that someone closer to home could cut it for her. She is willing to pay $50 Canadian plus shipping. If anyone feels up to the job please let me know. I would hate to let her down. Attached is a picture of the one she would like

I could be wrong, but do you mean Advanced Machinery? They are the American distributor of Hegner scroll saws.

I use a 4 1/2" grinder with a coarse flap sanding disc on it. The disc last a fair long time and it gets the job done in fairly short order. The problem I have had with the wire brushes is after a while they tend to shed some of the bristles and can stuck in you . Just a thought for consideration .

The sander could imbed sanding grit into the wood, not good for planer knives.

There are different circular wire brushes that mount on drills and motors. They have tough wire to brass Maybe one of these could do without putting gouges in the wood. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=wire+wheel+brush&ref=nb_sb_noss Will add Drill brush has grades of brushes for cleaning. https://www.amazon.com/stores/Drillbrush/page/F5733C91-A33F-428E-8474-CD115411E213?ref_=ast_bln RJF

    Blade opinion

I agree with Wayne. Find a blade you are comfortable using. We all have preferences. I use both FD and Pegas and very satisfied with both brands. Even though I sell Pegas, I would not attempt to talk someone away from a blade they are comfortable using. Yes, TPI is important. On Pegas MGT blades the 2/0R is 15.4. On Pegas Skip blades 2/0 is 28.2. When comparing brands always consider the TPI.

    Blade opinion

Well said Wayne, I started with Olson and got very comfortable with them as they were the only blades I used for several years. Tried the FD blades a couple of times as my skills improved and could not follow a line especially in the 2/0 range. Now after 16 years I can cut with pretty much any blade with some reasonable precision, but for when I need real fine detail and a gentle approach, I still go to my old comfort level Olson. That said I used the Pegas MGT 1R 13.7 TPI for my last Intarsia project. very small kerf and a fast cut.
