  5. I usually get my wife roses on Mother's Day but with the lock down still in place it was going to be a challenge this year. So I made a card and a Steve Good pattern. This is the inside of card and the flowers in African Mahogany. I hope all the Mothers out there have a great day.

  6. A very good friend and neighbor with Parkinson’s passed away, we used to go for breakfast at different restaurants around town and also go out for dinner with our wife’s. Any way his wife asked me if I could make an urn for his remain, she said it is a sentimental value to her. Well I am not in the urn making business, so after discussing her request, she wanted something simple but with nice wood (I made lots of crafts fir them before). In the shop I go with a heavy heart even though we new that the end was close, this is what I came up with. His name was Gerry Brown.

  7. I started out to make this little intartia bear because I thought it had so much meaning and was so nicely designed by JGR. I just had to give it a try. Overall, I thought it was going pretty well until It was time to do the lettering on the medicine bottle. I had given it some thought and figured it was too delicate of letter cutting and so I decided I would just write in on with a small sharpie. I had one chance to get it right, as it was already glued in place. Well quickly I found out it was a big mistake and it ended up taking so much away from the piece. As you can see, the ink in the sharpie absorbed into the grain of the wood and resulted in a really bad case of the ink running into the pours of the wood. That was the start of my frustrations and disappointments for the past couple of weeks. I will post the new piece of bad failures for me in a couple of days, when I go ahead and post my most frustrating piece, ( for me ), I have ever made. Dick heppnerguy

  8. I have not done a lot of stack cutting but unless you are using quality BB tear out can be expected because the outside veneers are so very thin on ordinary plywood. I use a sacrificial piece of 3/16" luan underlayment.

  9. After my big disappointment from the teddy bear I saw an easy piece on Steve Good's page that I needed to cut, just to bring back some confidence I lost from my last piece. So I did this one and felt a little better. Not much of a challenge here and do not even know what I am going to do with this one. But it did the job of making me believe a little in myself once more. So not all was lost in the long run. Dick heppnerguy

@avenuewood, I heard back from Wolfgang at A/M. He told me that they are open and have answered every email they had received. He also asked me for more info on your situation. You might try again and specify Wolfgang. I told him that you were trying to order the swivel ends for the Quick Clamp. Ray

Am I right in thinking this bump stop is the small boss with a rubber ring around it? Just how much extra height does removing it give you?

  15. You stated that the bottom layer is "tearing out" badly? Is it the actual wood that is tearing out or is it just the "fuzzes" that is always to some extent, present on the bottom layer. I use the FD ultra reverse blades when I stack cut the bb ply and they will produce fusses but not as much as a regular blade. As NC Scroller stated if it is not true BB ply but the utility ply or even their cabinet grade ply, you run the risk of the ply tearing or even breaking out! Erv

  17. I get most of my wood from a place that sells hardwood lumber and cabinet grade plywood. There sell rough cut thicker stock either 6/4 or 8/4. In a pinch Lowes and Home Depot sells poplar and oak that is 1 1/2" x 1 1/2". Cost is about $6.00 for a 36" piece.

  21. The first thing that comes to mine is this real Baltic birch or the birch plywood they sell at Lowes or Home Depot. If the latter there is not much you can do. Sorry to say you got what you paid for. The second thing is you said you were using #3 FD Ultra Reverse. Is the blade installed with the crimp at the top? Can you post a picture of the bottom layer?

  22. I don’t have any experience in this, but maybe put some painters tape might help.

    Mothers day

My hubby made me a pen for Mothers Day. Gigi style blank, Maple, Cocabola, Chechen, and Black Veneer. What makes this even more special is he used the lathe tools that were is fathers. His father taught his wood working when he was growing up. His father passed away 33 years ago.

  26. I have a Rikon 14" deluxe with a 1/2" blade the does a great job resawing. I resaw it then sand it with my drum sander or plane it. I can get the wood down to .075 or less with this method. The thinner wood I use for bands when making shaker oval boxes.

    bandsaw/ resaw questions

I too enjoy resawing lumber. The only downfall, okay, one of the downfalls is setting my saw up to resaw, tuning it to a gnats butt. Once that is accomplished, I don't like switching blades to do other work. So now I'm looking for another bandsaw, and then I'll have two, one of which will be die dictated to resawing. I have the Shopfox 1706 with a riser.

  36. It looks like the bear wrote it and for me it is perfect. If it was done neatly or engraved it would have spoilt the whole piece. A beautiful piece of work Dick.
