  2. Yet again more inlays in box lids. I have kept busy making toys but a friend, since 1947, asked me to make some custom boxes for his grands. Maple inlaid into aromatic (eastern red) cedar.

  4. We had an old card table that the top was bad on so I made a new top for it. The top was too big for my scrollsaw so the wife drew a football around Herky and I cut it out with a jigsaw and then cut Herky out on the scrollsaw then painted and glued back in place. Gonna give it to our son he's a big Iowa Hawkeye fan.

  6. Today, May 12, is our 25th anniversary. Made this for us using lace wood with painted backer. It is a Sue May pattern for the outer ring I found in the pattern vault here a pattern that Grampa made for the hands. Then made a copy of a wedding picture.

  7. ok here are the pictures of what iv been working on I made 2 sets of steves lift people for the dewalt since that's the machine I have. now I could have just left both sets blank, but that's now me lol so I made my little people into me and spike. lol spike usuly wears jeans and a tee shirt and since he was wearing a red tee shirt when I painted these he's wearing a red tee shirt, and im of course in jeans and a pretty top. now for the faces, I lowered the wood face some and then glued spikes head picture and my head picture in to on the wood face. now sine spike dosnt really have any hair that's all I did with him now for me when I lowered the face a bit I tried to take care and only lower the face leaving the hair at its orginal hight. and yes I relize my hair is now white lol but I decided to make a younger version of me from when my hair was blond back then. lol I will put one set in the wood shop so they can hold up my scroll saw arm, the second set will just sit on my nick nack shelf. im thinking of making more of these for family and friends using there pictures. im just now sure what to do about the arms being up lol I need to think of something for these people to be holding up over there heads. now if I knew of anyone who still fished I could do one of my comopnd cut fish for the little people to be holding up over there heads...but none of us has been fishing in years lol I think these might be something that would sell except for the fact that I would need a small picture of someones face to put into it lol not everyone knows how to edit pictures to crop and then make the right sized head and not everyone has a program like printshop to make this easer to use lol oh well I have me ad spike and if I can think of something to put In the hands they might not look like there holding there arms up as if in a stick up!! lolnow i come to the birds in there bird cages. I made four of these and put up some up some pictures of then in progress as well as pictures of the finished item. now the first and last pictures of the birdcages and birds is after I cut out the pieces and started sanding them, don't ask me why the computer put one at the top and one at the bottom as that is not how I put them in here lol then comes the pictures of them after being painted. the next picture is of them hanging in the work shop after being polyurthined and last but not least is a close up of one of them after I put the feathers on them and the very last picture is of one of the finished birdcages and birds ready to put in the craft boxes. now of course I have to decide on what I want to start or work on next!! lol I don't think i'll be in the wood shop tomarrow as I have to sew all my granny squares into a sweater lol I just hope it will fit me lol id hate to have to give it away lol besides im not sure who besides me woud want a granny squared sweater lol they were real popler back when I was a teen and very young adult but I don't think many people today would want one lol I am still a prodict of my generation !!! spikes little flower girll hippy !! lol like I told spike the only old part of me is my body ! lol

  8. I used all pieces of scrap wood that I have in my scrap box, mix and match wood of different thickness to get the size required for the bird houses. This way you get all kind of different colours, the front might be cherry, the back Walnut that is the beauty of cutting them. Your cost on wood is really nothing better use than the wood stove. Just let your mind explore all the possibilities.

    First completed bowl

This is my first completed bowl (I'm working another but it still needs work - experimental idea). The wood is 3/4 Black Limba. It screamed "Take Me" when I saw it at the store so I did. I also did a serving tray from that same piece of wood. The bowl is 15 inches long by 12 wide -- The tray is another post earlier. Need much more practice definitely but I'm happy with it as a first -- Finished with Danish oil and spray oil Poly

  13. I have both laser and inkjet. I rarely use the inkjet printer. it's slow and it sits a long time there always seems to be an issue with the ink cartridges. It has no network connection. The laser is color, prints faster, has wired and wireless network connections, and costs under $200. Inkjets print better photos, but a few years ago I did the math and it was cheaper per photo to have the photo printed at CVS. Up load, wait for an email, and pick it up when the wife does her milk run. I factored in the cost of ink, photo paper, and the fact that some times I need to print the photo more than once because of operator errors, printer errors, ink cartridges, and the cost of the printer. I don't know why I still keep the inkjet.

    Bread Basket

Our neighbour, Penn, has taken up bread baking as one of his pandemic-coping activities. I have gladly taken on the taster/tester role. Penn's French Baguette utilizing old Cheddar cheese is particularly good : I made him this, Steve Good designed, basket as a small thank-you gift:

  16. I'm going to try this again. Hello everyone. Last fall I posted pictures of a lighted shadow box of ELVIS that I made as a present for someone special in our lives. Our niece turns 50 this month and she may be the biggest Bruce Springsteen fan in the country , she has seen him in concert more than 10 times, so I decided to do this for her. I used an old LP record that I had here in the house and found the image of THE BOSS on the internet, made a copy and started cutting the vinyl record. There were a few very small opening that had to be cut but I used a number 2 Pegas blade on the slowest speed and fortunately, I was successful. I then custom made the mouldings on the router table and sanded the back side of the plexiglas and proceeded to put this together, I had to drill a small hole on the front of the frame for the IR receiver, which is used to control the LED lights in the frame. This receiver can be seen on the lower right side of the frame in one of the pictures that I will attempt to attach here, you will also see how the USB power cord is attached through the side of the frame. I also will try to attach a very small video that shows the LEDs pulsating to the music, it will be nothing short of miraculous if this works. We can’t wait to give it to her tomorrow. Thanks for looking. I hope this works. The Boss Video with audio.MOV

Fairly new scroll sawyer. Have RBI Hawk model 226 Ultra purchased back in 2003. Of all of that time much of it with the scroll saw doing nothing but sitting. Wanting to get back into it. I am an optometrist getting ready to retire on the 1st of December this year, and will have lots of time on my hands. Only problem now is I have a scroll saw that is under the weather so to speak. I think I managed to botch up or lose a part to the rear tensioning assembly and I am badly in need of help. This is one of the reasons for my joining your group. I live in Southern California in the Community of Trilogy in Corona. Cell phone (texting or phoning) (951)907-4708 e-mail: docjosh@msn.com would be anxious to hear from someone who can help Thanks in advance

    Belt Sanders

I purchased the 4x24 Triton belt sander today. I need it for a farmhouse table my daughter wants made. I was all set to buy it from my local woodworking store but they have curbside delivery and wouldn't take cash. So I saved $8 and ordered it on Amazon. You try to buy local and pay a little extra and they didn't want my cash. So if I had to use a credit card might as save money because I will have it to use before they open backup.

  33. Yeah, I saw that too. My printer is discontinued. Someone is trying to make a hefty profit off of his. I found my receipt. I paid $230 plus tax. It's a great printer.

  37. I do just enough color that I feel I would need a color.. and if this transfer deal like the video of this topic showed i could see me doing quite a lot with that.. I've had a idea bouncing around my brain a few years with doing this transfer type stuff to wood.. The one you mentioned I looked up.. I won't be paying no grand for a printer.. I doubt I've even used a grand worth of ink through my inkjet printer in all the years I've used it.. including the price I paid for my printer, LOL.. But not to say I wouldn't buy it on sale or a refurbished one.. for a few hundred less.. I'll keep my eye open for some refurbished, or sales.. even maybe used..

  44. Modified this Steve Good magazine holder pattern a bit. Stretched out the front piece (actually, just cut three of them end-to-end, one long piece), added two additional dividers in the middle (stack-cut 4, then notched out the front on the two middle pieces so that the front piece would fit, as the original design called for the front piece to be attached on the inside of the sides, not to the front of the sides), and opened up the back a bit (didn't have enough 1/4 BB ply to make a solid back). Were I going to make another one, I would attach the front and back pieces to the front and back of the sides/middle, as having them recessed the thickness of the ply reduced the front-to-back space just enough that some of my pattern books didn't fit. Still, it helps to clean up my office desk, so overall I'd call it a win! Lots of curves to this one, it was a fun cut overall.

I can't buy much of anything locally. Certainly not rough lumber. The nearest place I can get hardwoods other than the big box stores is 125 miles away. I have never seen 1-1/2-inch lumber in Lowe's or Home depot, perhaps because I wasn't looking for it.

  48. Can I ask why you don't want stain on the back side? What does it hurt? The only way I know how to help this would be to apply a coat of sanding sealer, aka clear Shellac, to the back of you wood before you cut. It should help but not prevent completely as the wood is made up of straw like fibers that suck up the stain.
