Why am I happy, well today I cut my first mini bird house. I have been wanting to do them for years and I have had the patterns for years too but they always went to the bottom of the pile, so today I bit the bullet. I was surprised at how easy it was. Photo next week. Marg.

  5. I used a quilt block pattern to make this memory box. It was a lot harder for me than I thought. I cut all the triangles on my scroll saw so there was no way I was able to get them all perfect. I used cedar, poplar, yellow heart, nogal, blue pine and bubinga.

  6. This may sound a little old school but I know it helps me in times like your going through. First grab a pen or pencil and a notebook, then a cup of coffee. Make a list of what you do. Then a list of what you want to expand in or learn. On a second clean sheet draw a line down the middle and list the 2 saws on the very top. A couple lines down from the top draw 2 more lines dividing the halves into quarters. Above one quarter mark pro's and above the other Con's, repeat for the other side. Write down the pro's and con's for each saw in the appropriate column . Once you get this completed study each column and figure out which best suits your desires. This helps me put things into a clearer perspective for making a choice. Hoping this helps you some. One thing to keep in mind though. The Seyco has a built in electronic angle gauge for doing beveled cuts which eliminates the need for a separate gauge for setting the tilt of the arm on these saws.

  7. Actually he purchased the saw from me through ArtCrafters. Most everyone I dealt with is very satisfied with the Pegas Scroll Saw. Looks like you are in New Jersey. The saw is shipped from Carlstadt, NJ, so shipping would be minimal. Any questions, send me a pm.

A VERY big thank you to all of you who have helped. Lock this information into your memory banks. DeWalt blade clamps with the swivel pin fit Hegner scrollsaws.

  11. We've been going through that on this side of the state also. They are supposed to open the open air farmers market the beginning of next month. Hopeful they do . Even all the shows around the 4th of July have been cancelling also which is going to hurt a lot of crafters I know. Hopefully Gov. Wolf will will use good solid judgment as to when the time is right.

  12. work shop looks great!! and hey the more room you have the more fun you can have lol its just me and spike and the animals and we an acer of land. lol when looked at this place I loved it!! the house had everything we could need or want...it was in town which is something we decided on because of our ages and health and oh my all that land!! now I grew up in the country... not like country is today lol some times we were the only house on the road. lol every now and then there would be maybe 1 or 2 other houses on the road, but to get to your neibhors house you had cross a field or 2 . lol and everybody played in the hedge rows lol there was only one rule...you can cut through the field to get to your neibhors house as long as you didn't step on or knock down the stuff growing in them lol you had to make sure you walked /ran in the rows between the crops.lol we used to play hid and seek in the corn fields lol now spike on the other hand grew up in chicgro...the windy city since I cant seem to spell the name right lol if he had a yard at all it was very small. he took me to see it one time its onllya few hundred miles from us... and none of the homes had any yards...I asked him where the kids played and I almost had a heart attack when he told me in the road.... now if you went in the road out in the country there was a good chance you would get hit by a car going 65-70 miles an hour at least!! lol so this was perfect for us...still in town and I had my land lol and what do we do with all that land? mow it!! lol iv wanted to plant a garden since we moved here but spike has no idea how to do that and we don't have a rotiller….until me he didn't even know what a rotertiller was let alone how to use one lol and unfrountly im to short to use one lol when I was married to the ex he got the smallest one he could find so I could use it but even with thehandles all the way down all I could do was make a hole in one spot lol ahh well off topic again lol I know how happy you are with you new workshop, I couldn't wait to get everything set up and ready to use in mine when we got here!! I will not say any thing about keeping it clean lol the only time mine is clean is when spike gos in and decides it HAS to be cleaned lol I just tell him its on my lists but I have these projects I have to finish first lol

@Kris Martinson. Big thanks to forum member Kris for sending me this fantastic pattern of the great John Wayne. I have used Cedar for the pattern and Yew for the frame. Cedar is a fantastic wood to cut and smells great. This was cut with a Hegner and Olson 2/0r blade. I just need to add a few coats of Danish oil and John will be ready for the wall. Regards, Paul.

  20. A good tip Dick. I have a 1/4" 6mm bolt about 4" long onto which I ground a rather shallow but sharp point. If I am using the small drill bits eg numbered, I use this to press into the holes from the rear, It makes a funnel shape and a bigger mark for old eyes to see and thin blades to find.

  22. well right now im working on putting my sweater together and iv started carvining on the 2nd bulldog tooth pick holder but i thought id put up a few pictures anyway as i have no idea how long those 2 projects will take to finish. lol now lets see the first one is a puzzlee of a roman solder i think ..lol then theres the pumpkin lamp it looked pretty good when it was all let up, and now still with the howlleen them i made a pull along black cat. lol i used my zapped cat pattern i got form the winterfield collection and just paited it blaxk and put it on a base with wheels...i sold 3 of those right way lol then of course dragon lovers must have at least one dragon in there kitchen so heres a dragon paper towl holder lol l thught this one was cute. lol and then theres the airplain lamp someone asked me to make for there son, i didnt have a lampshade to put on it but the people didnt care they could get there own lamp shade..now lets see oh yes the bless this house sign i took a pence and outlined the tree and house so id know where to put the green and blue on the baker boad. now my girls used to love barbie dolls and of course they needed furnture for there dolls so i learned how to make a few things for the out of wood, those sold real good to lolo and the last picture is of my oldest daughters shapie dog named coco. he died a few years back but helen really like the picture of him and she still has it hanging on her wall. the front and baker board are made from the same materal...i just turned the baker board over and painted it black. i think it came out pretty good and helen loved it so thats all that matters to me. lol well im off everyone have a great day evening or night depending on where you live lol

i am not sure I understand this exactly. Are you saying the kids are cut into the wood, rather than glued on? So did you route it out with a dremel used as your router? Just wondering because I have been thinking of doing that with my Dremel also. Dick heppnerguy

    Drilling Tiny Holes

I use a dremel brand, plastic one that I also got from Home Depot and I have not had any problems with it so far. I can see what I am doing, I do not believe I have miss drilled any holes with it yet, but anything is possible.. It seems to work really well for me and gets me into any part of and size board I need to drill a hole in. I like mind and the price was well below any of the ones above. Dick heppnerguy
    1 point
  30. Jerry, the reason I am posting this is I use this when I am doing small fret work. It holes I need to drill are so small I have to use a drill size that barely allows my #2/0 blade to fit into it. This leaves a hole about the size of a small sewing needle. I can not use a larger bit or I will destroy what it is I am getting ready to cut. Because the hole is so small and usually there are many holes drilled in the piece, It is very difficult to thread the blade up through the hole as it is extremely difficult to even see it. When I say, 'use a bit that is a little larger then the hole', it is to create a funnel shape one the back side of the board and this allows the blade to almost slip into the hole by itself. I understand what you are saying but one has to be very careful and as soon as the larger drill bit makes even the smallest amount of sawdust, you are done. I have never yet found this method to be any kind of a problem what so ever. I do appreciate your warning me about the possible problem. I only do this on a drill press and I do it very lightly and carefully. I do thank you for your heads up, but it is not a problem in the least, the way I do it. If I were using a hand held drill, I would not use this method, for sure Dick heppnerguy

    Drilling Tiny Holes

I remember the old topic about the plunge router for the dremel and when this device was shown.. I have the site bookmarked.. The actual plunge router variation from the company you got this from is quite pricey if I recall correctly.. and I pondered on it for a long time before just going with the dremel plunge router.. The issue with the dremel set up is as it gets a little worn and probably a little sloppy right from the start but you have to be careful to lower it down straight.. as there is some slop from side to side on it.. The other issue is that plastic base gets dirty and hard to see through it.. I do however like the larger base of it for stability when drilling out near the edges of a project.. I like the Seyco scrollers drill.. however that is also pricey and it's not something that you could change the motor out if it were to go bad.. at least this device you can get another cheap dremel and still use your press.. I still use and use a lot my dremel plunge drill set up.. BUT.. I rarely use it for precise drilling unless I have to because of my project being to big for my small drill press.. which isn't often.. I keep my smallest bit in my drill press because I typically use it for drilling holes for small veining type lines I need to cut.. which I do quite a lot of veining cuts for body lines on the car clocks etc that I cut.. Then I use a bit larger bit in the dremel set up.. not very much larger though.. Think I run a #56 in my dremel and a #60 in my drill press.. the #56 is the smallest that a pegas MG #5 will go through and the #60 is the smallest the #3 goes through.. Those are the main blades I use.. Thanks for showing how you modified that fixed base router to be a plunge router... I might have to look into buying one of those better set-ups.. BTW.. this is the link to the items that was in the original topic last year.. Plunge Router Base https://www.stewmac.com/luthier-tools-and-supplies/types-of-tools/routers-and-bits/routers/stewmac-plunge-router-base.html Fixed Base Router As Shown By Les https://www.stewmac.com/luthier-tools-and-supplies/tools-by-job/precision-router-base.html This is another option that I ran across the other day at Home Depot https://www.homedepot.com/p/Wolfcraft-Portable-Multi-Angle-Drill-Guide-with-Drill-Chuck-4525404/303283380?MERCH=REC-_-PIPHorizontal2_rr-_-100349264-_-303283380-_-N

    PARADISE again!

Nice work, Kevin! I just cut a pattern that was too large to turn on my saw but, instead of resorting to spirals (which I knew would end up being a disaster) I just drilled entry holes on the top of the letters and at the bottom of the letters so that I could cut part way around in a clockwise direction and then half way around in a counter clockwise direction to complete the cut, That worked out well for me with this particular project. Also, a member of Scrollsaw Woodworking and Crafts magazine mentioned years ago that on occasion, he put the blade in his saw backwards so that he could pull the wood toward him to cut rather than pushing to wood back toward the throat. I have used that on occasion also but, must really go slow and carefully because it is uncomfortable. You know what I mean, just not the way we have trained our minds to do things. God Bless! 48. When I made them a few years back I used the wooden pegs.. But I gotta be honest.. and the oddball of the group.. I like the look of the metal one shown in the photo.. so just goes to show you.. this is a matter of opinion.. just as scroll saws and saw blades, LOL Hawk is best...no Pegas is best.. no DeWalt is the best for the money, LOL Let your customers decide which way they want it.. I personally like the contrast between the metal and the wood.. Want to get into painting the wood ones? start offering colors, stain them etc etc.. But I do like contrast with many wood and home decor types of things.. That's just me though..
    1 point
  49. Okay.. Here is what would have decided me, had the Pegas been available when I purchased the Seyco.... The Pegas is a around $50 cheaper.....
    1 point
  50. Tough decision,,,, only you can make. I have had an Excalibur and now a Seyco. I have the Pegas blade clamps,,,,, had them on my Seyco and have changed back to the original clamps.. More people swear by the Pegas clamps so I am very much out voted.... I think I would like the Pegas way of tilting the table better than the Seyco, but I have so far never cut where I need a tilted table. I plan on doing so, but not beyond what my Seyco can tilt. I do love the large table of the Seyco. I love it whole bunch. But the Seyco is not as pretty as the Pegas..... Oh, my it is a tough decision. I was lucky, the Pegas saw was not available when I purchased my Seyco.... I really don't know which I would have ended up with. Good luck....
