  1. I used a quilt block pattern to make this memory box. It was a lot harder for me than I thought. I cut all the triangles on my scroll saw so there was no way I was able to get them all perfect. I used cedar, poplar, yellow heart, nogal, blue pine and bubinga.

    Drone view of market

A friend of mine flew his drone over my local weekly market today and started this video clip at my booth. I definitely need one of these drones. My first event of the year. It was so-so, nothing fabulous and below what I had hoped for a holiday weekend, but hey at least I'm doing markets again. DJI_0028_3.mp4

  5. In My opinion you got the best saw Hawk made, LOL... I have a 1993 220VS with the round clamps and the Fasco (SP) motor that they say can have issues.. It's a decent saw and I've not had any issues with it.. I also have a 1998 226 Ultra.. and it's a awesome saw.. I wanted a new style so in 2019 I bought a brand new BM-26.. I like that one better than the old 1993 but it's a tough call as to whether I like it better or not then my Ultra.. All are great saws.. Have fun with your new saw and hope to see you posting some project photos etc..

  9. Enjoy your new saw. Now you can get some wood from Dave at D&D in Saylorsburg. I also buy Baltic birch plywood from Rugby in Blakeslee.

  10. Congrats on the new to you Hawk.. If you have this round style lower blade holder then the saw would ( I believe ) be a 1994 -5 saw If you have this style clamp.. then you have a 1996 or newer Hawk Ultra .. It's my understanding the the Ultra was born in 1996 and they ran with them until the G4 saws came out in 2005

  14. You may have dodged a bullet. In my talks to Bushton, the only problems they seem to have is machines with motors from Fasco. A Dayton motor will be great. Enjoy!

  15. I've had mine for 24 years 226vs. Bought it brand new in 96. It's been a good saw and its had a lot of use. The notch is starting to show some wear. The only thing I have had to replace on it was the spring that holds the arm up. I would like to get a new Hawk but am a little leery of Bushton and their customer service right now.

  16. this is from another forum i go on,the dayton motors were used from 94-96. the guy who gave that info was a former RBI employee.they are really good saws and parts are still available. they sometimes take awhile to get from bushton.best if you call and talk to someone. congrats on your first saw.bushton manufacturing now uses MET motors and controls. doug

  21. Good advise here. Try all three brands mentioned above. Personally I have settled on Pegas blades that I get from Denny.

    Source for Blades...?

As a scroll saw instructor, I recommend starting with a skip tooth blade first. A skip tooth is a good general duty blade that clears dust away more efficiently than most others blades. Without reverse teeth you don’t have to worry about The the blade trying to lift the wood off of the table. Flying Dutchman, Pegas and Olson all have a good skip tooth blade. I would get sizes #1, #3 and ##5. Once you master those, then go on to different styles. When I teach a beginners class, I start the students off with Olson #5 skip tooth blades, on 3/4” pine. Personally, I use mostly Flying Dutchman Ultra Reverse blades in sizes 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. I also use FD Polar blades which is a skip tooth blade, and I also use Olson reverse tooth blades. I have tried Pegas Modified Geometry blades, and they are good, but not good enough to change over.

I believe that name is correct but I honestly do not remember for sure.. He ended up an alcoholic and died outside almost homeless. Really sad way for a man to go after servicing so well for our country. Dick heppnerguy

    compound cuts

All, thanks for your inputs. I will try a #5 Skip. cheers.
    1 point
  48. Yes your blade is too small for 1.5" wood. I would use nothing less then a #5 skip tooth blade. Flying Dutchman makes a skip tooth blade they call a Polar blade. That is my go to blade for compound cutting. A #5 Polar is 16.5 teeth per inch. Pegas and Olson also make skip tooth blades that have roughly the same number of teeth. NOTE you want a skip tooth blade and not one with reverse teeth.
