    Steampunk clock

Purchased a new scroll saw from a local store and jumped right in and started making gears for a steampunk inspired clock. I tried a couple different programs to print gear patterns but I couldn't get the right shape of the teeth I wanted. I ended up drawing them out myself. This honestly took longer than anything else! Had a few end up in the scrap pile but in the end got what I wanted. Used an air brush to paint it (also first time using one of these)

  2. I purchased the 50th Anniversary Plaque from Sue Mey. A friend will have their 25th. He is my age, so I doubt they will reach 50. I modified the pattern to 25th rather than 50; did not do the relief, and added a backer. This was cut on a Pegas using #1 and #3 MGT blades. The top is 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood approximately 8" square. The bottom is 3/8" Baltic Birch plywood stained with Samen Raspberry stain. I used 3/8" because of the coin and saw tooth hanger. The finish is one dipping in diluted Shellac and 3 coats MinWax spray Lacquer Clear Satin. Comments welcome.

    Shop sign

I have been pondering, designing, cutting and waiting on this project for several months. I started out just wanting a sign for my shop. Eventually I knew I wanted it outside and viewable from both sides. Then came the idea of needing a sign bracket, ya the order of design was a bit backward . After searching for days and getting no satisfaction I decided to design my own sign bracket. Long story short, 2 machinist later I finally found someone to build my bracket. I am moderately satisfied with the bracket outcome although to be honest I was hoping for better quality. I learned a great deal through the process and have refined the process for the sign and its assembly. Imam also looking for another source to build my sign brackets and pondering offering these signs on my website. Details: sign is a 8” diameter circle, triple layer of 1/4 inch stock. The two outsides are BB and are stack cut. The center is mdf. After assembly the sign is covered in Helmsman outdoor marine varnish, 3 coats. After fitting the sign into the bracket (both are hand made so neither are perfectly round) I coat the outer edge of the sign with silicone and slide it into the bracket and pin it in place. After wiping away excess silicone I let it dry, my hope is the silicone helps seal the edge from rain. Now I just need to find a place to mount the sign outside my shop. I hope you enjoy. 5. This is a project I started back in March just after this virus situation hit us and all of the craft shows upcoming was cancelled. I didn't thank I would be this long in completing it but I did take my time as there wasn't any rush. There was a lot of items that required the use of a lathe and a band saw, both of which i do not have so a little bit of working around some of those problems took some time! The tires was one of the items requiring a lathe but the scroll saw took care of that, the only thing that I couldn't do was a lighter small ring of wood that simulates the rim was to be cut and inlaid where the "lug" nuts are. It could also be painted while the wheel was still on the lathe. As you see the "rim" is black. There was a few other things that was over come by using the tools I had on hand! All of the wood that is painted either pine, ceder fencing, or poplar. All comments welcome. Erv

  7. I ordered blades on Friday and Denny said he would put in Saturday’s mail, here it is Monday afternoon and I received the blades. I would say that is excellent service and everyone in need of pegas blades I would definitely order them from artcrafters for their fast and committed service, RJ

    Pink

Thanks to @thatknobtony I got to make this for a lady in South Australia. The wood is 1/2" Australian Blackwood.. Unfortunately I could only get the fluro pink paint, spray paint is in a bit of a short supply at the moment due to isolation, because everyone is doing DIY. Marg

  9. Kudos to Axminster for upgrading those clamps. They should just go with the Pegas color scheme and bearing upgrades and be done with it. Also noticed they are carrying the Jet flavor now also. Will be interesting to see if Carbatec follow with this approach, and Seyco too.

    Pegas blade calamps

OK, I don,t feel so bad now as I thought I was the only one that strange things of losing things in plain site only happened to me! I spent most of the day Monday trying to find the tool to deepen the opening for a wood screw and I had replaced it right where I could find it! I looked and searched through the tool boxes, all of the drawers, in places where I knew it wouldn't be and finally give up and mickey moused the opening with a small knife. Later I needed a different drill bit, went to the box it was in and quess what, there was the tool right where I put it so I would know where it was! Erv

    Pegas blade calamps

You clamp the bottom blade clamp exactly like the top blade clamp. I find it easiest if the arms are in the lowest stroke position.

Sorry,no I don't have mine anymore One is behind the plastic cover that says Porter Cable,The other is directly below that one at the bottom,They look like allen screws,I cant remember what size,Your owner's manual calls them Special Screws if I remember right.I hope this helps Sorry I just saw your attachment on page 25 look for 36F2 And you will see the screws I,m talking about.Sorry I took so long in getting back to you.

  16. Not quite sure what you mean. The blade should slip in between the set on the left side and the T screw on the right. When in place, just tighten the T screw.

  20. My niece's oldest son is a baseball nut just like his uncle. We both need to see this COVID nonsense end so some body can yell "PLAYBALL". Until then, knowing how much he is missing his pals on Little League, I cut a puzzle of him receiving his "All Star" trophy last season. 139 pcs including my first attempt at cutting figural/whimmsies. I hope this works, thanks for looking. Sorry about the image, it was taken on my phone and then turned on it's side by the APPLE goblins, and I can't figure out how to fix it.

    just a question

ok I don't know where or when I got this pattern, but as I said until recently I hadn't got into the woodshop for almost 2 years....and my memory isn't the greatest. now I THINK I know how to cut this but just to be on the safe side and so as not to waist any wood, when I put this on the wood I cut out the lines right ? and the parts that have the x marked are places where I cut all the wood away. no rush with this because even though I have the small blades now I still have to get some really small drill bits...thanks !!

    Steam Locomotive

I seen the plans (16 pages worth) on Woodsmithplans.com. There is a lot of scrolling an sanding. Made from black walnut an white maple. The plans didn’t show the hand rails, front steps or the ballast in the track. I felt it was needed. I don’t have a way to do turning. So I just started sanding the main round engine using belt sander and anything else I could come up with. This is a gift to my youngest son so I wanted it to be totally made by me. It is hard to see in pictures but the sign on stand reads “New York Central Railroad Twentieth Century Limited Super Hudson Streamlined J3a Built 10 Between 1937-1938”. This has to be the most rewarding project that I have made in the 10+ years of woodworking! To see the emotion from my son when I showed it to him is what I will never forget. I have included a picture of the real engine and you notice I used the same engine number it had. Sorry for the long post but if you want anymore information just ask. Have probably over 40 hours in it. The stand is 30” long. Thanks for looking!

    THINK in 3D

Just finished this 3D cutout. This was my first project with Pegas blades. I really like how smooth and crisp the blade left the wood. Still getting used to how the blades cut as opposed to Flying Dutchman. Looking forward to experimenting more with the Pegas.

  49. After I posted my soapbox issue, I went to Amazon to see what is available. They are not on sale right now. But also, if you are only going to print patterns or receipts, a monochrome b/w one at $100 ain't bad. The cartridges never go bad from what I have been told. You might have to shake them every once in a while. I haven't had to do that. I got the low ink message a couple of time on the black one but there is a way to "fool" the printer into thinking it has a new cartridge. I love YouTube.

  50. It's a beautiful spring day in WA! My first stab at Intarsia -- a box with a rose on the lid. I saw one by Robert Ardizzoni and thought it would be a nice mother's day present for my wife. It's made from walnut and maple. She has a bit of trouble getting the lid to sit properly, as it is hardly symmetrical!
