  3. Cut this puzzle today, dang near took a dozen blades and way too long to cut. Lesson learned puzzles from hickory is not a good time in the shop. Probably said too many choice words in the process too.

    Used blades

I have a small magnet glued to my scroll saw stand. When the blades get dull I put them on the magnet. I will reuse the blades when I need to rough cut something, such as cutting a 12" long board down to 4" long. By then the blade is usually shot, and I throw it in the garbage. I too, will use them to clean out the glue bottle. One other thing that I do is, I'll use them as hangers when putting a finish on the compound bird houses.

  7. I can't believe anyone sitting to have their pattern made would not take the time to do something with their hair! 1/4" BB, #2 Pike jewelers blade. Still needs a 50/50 BLO bath, a backer and a frame. Dimitri posted this picture a while back but am not sure if he is the designer.

  10. Finished up another Harry Potter quote for my wife, not sure if I posted it. 3/4" generic plywood leftover from the bed project. Stained Minwax Cherry. #3 Pegas MG blade, if I recall correctly. Also, a Steve Good pattern from his newsletter the other day, a Nautilus Gear wingding. The gears spin on 1/4" dowel axles, and the plans even include cutting the washers that go on the ends of the axle. Dry-fitting after I cut it, I decided that the upright and the washers were tight enough fits for the axle, so I used a round file to make the gear holes a tad bit bigger. Not frictionless, but not tight. Easy to spin, but they're not going to ever be mistaken for a perpetual-motion machine. 1/4" BB ply, mostly, the base was a scrap of something I found in the may-be-useful-later bin that collects all sorts of odd cutoffs and random spiders. No worries....between the spiders and scorpions, I don't have to worry about too many crickets or roaches in my garage. Stained Minwax Honey (upright, base, and washers) and BLO (gears and axles).

I have done that. It works well, but the surface will have a slight curve.

  13. All I did to the bottle is cut a hole in the bottom to fit over the output side of the vac. Then I used hot melt glue to attach it to the vac. I measured the decibels on the vac before and after, and got a drop of 8 decibels, which is supposed to be a drop of half the volume. The decibels were read on an app on my phone, so don't know how precise they are. This was suggested to me by Ray, and it works. Tom

  14. My coffee can is an old Folgers can I had in the shop. I don't drink coffee and my wife just buys these fancy little buggers. A coffee can should not be too hard to find. Any container with a tight fitting lid will work. You could even use a 5 gallon bucket and you could scroll for the rest of your life and not need to empty it.

Here is some links that might be helpful... clone https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082P28VQJ/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_4?smid=A2D157CTWK245Y&psc=1 Hose https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VLXG6RR/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_5?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 The part I can't find and hopefully Les will get a link for is the coffee can.. I can't find one.. I've ordered a couple different ones and each one was full of a ground up substance.. It smelled a lot like a cup of coffee but it's not.. it's like dried up coffee or something.. been nice if it had been an actual big can of coffee that I could drink.. I filed a complaint with the seller that the coffee can was filled with dried up coffee.. I had to throw it out.. shame too cause it smelled so good.. but gosh you sure can't drink it..I tried a spoon full and it sure is some nasty tasting stuff.. Smells great though.. I kept the one can and just left it open to make the shop smell good.. critters got into it and now I can't even shoot them.. they run about 2-3 times faster after eating it.. been thinkin maybe I should eat some..maybe I can saw faster and be more productive..

  16. There are no plans. The little cyclone dust collector is available from Amazon for about $11 if I remember correctly. On Amazon just search miniature cyclone dust collector. You may have to go down quite far on the list before you run into it. I'll try ti find it and post the url. I just mounted it in a three lb. coffee tin. It works well because the plastic lid seals well. I sandwich the plastic lid between two thin plywood disks for rigidity. The hoses are from a cpap machine. They are available on Amazon cheap. The rest is 1/2" PVC fittings.

    Used blades

Not cheap as me unless you're turning them upside down and using the sharp teeth on the other end... .. I don't care on some projects if they have reverse teeth or not so I sometimes flip them upside down and cut with the sharper side for a while, LOL

    Red Fox

The pattern is by Jacob Fowler and found in the book "Woodworker's Pattern Book". The wood is Cherry 3/8" x 7 1/2" x 7 1/2" and backed with Baltic Birch plywood 3/8" x 8" x 8" stained black. It was cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1 MGT blades. The finish is one dip in diluted Shellac and three coats Minwax spray Lacquer Clear Satin. Comments welcome.

  23. Not a whole lot going on so I thought I'd post a picture od how well the $11 plastic cyclone dust collector works. It works very well and takes so little space. I use a 3 lb coffee can. That is about as cheap as one can get. Er... I should perhaps say inexpensive.

  24. Hi there, I have been scrolling for about a year now, I find I am learning new things everyday. I get real enjoyment for creating gifts for members of my local Church, little plaques, 3d compound cuts ( I love those) never ceases to amaze me when pulling the outside layer away. I have been learning inkscape as well, for that more personalised gift, which I am thoroughly enjoying. As I have browsed through the group, there seems to be some truly gifted individuals on here, looking forward to learning something new from you all and pushing the boundaries of my creativity. I hope you all have a wonderful day.

  32. And after assembly. It spins, gears mesh, does absolutely nothing but look awesome and let me know that cutting gears isn't as scary as it looks. Maybe time (har) to start looking at wooden clocks again...

    Pink

Thanks to @thatknobtony I got to make this for a lady in South Australia. The wood is 1/2" Australian Blackwood.. Unfortunately I could only get the fluro pink paint, spray paint is in a bit of a short supply at the moment due to isolation, because everyone is doing DIY. Marg

    Used blades

Another hobby I have is blacksmithing. Not often enough to be good at it really. I have a handful of blades from my grandfather that I thought I could forge weld them into something. Of course I've never tried to forge weld before so that's an all new adventure too!

    Pegas blade calamps

My wife calls that a "John look". The number of times I have lost something and gone back over everything methodically, then declare it lost and project buggered, the War Office will say, "Is this what you where looking for?" and yep there it was, any closer and the bloody thing would bite me.
