  1. I have been trying to spend more time with my wife and less in my shop. She does not complain of my time there but we are getting up there in age and I know we do not have a lot of time left to be together, so I do not want to spend too much time away from her and then have to regret that I put my hobby time in front of our time together. . That said, The Jones plaque is for my older son as part of his upcoming birthday. The letter plaque is an added present to my great granddaughter who is having an birthday this week and I thought she might like this little tuck in. It is a Steve Good pattern. The Baby star plaque is for our third new great grandbaby born within this calendar year. This one is a Sue Mey pattern and I have another new great grandson who will be born this month also and I am just waiting for the date to get that one finished. Dick heppnerguy

  3. My daughter was here in Arizona for a couple of weeks with her new husband, helping my younger son to ready and move into his new house. While they were here, my daughter told me her husband's birthday is next month and since we will be going up to Oregon for a couple of months, she wondered if I could make a plaque of Chris's Jeep, as it is something he really enjoys. She sent me a photo of his jeep so I made a pattern from it and cut this plaque for her to give to her husband on his birthday. She saw it before she left for home a couple of days ago and said that she really liked it. I was about 1/3 finished cutting it at that time. Here is the results. Dick heppnerguy

  4. I can't believe I haven't found this site before now. I've been scrolling for about 15 years. I mostly work with smaller and simpler items - crosses and such. I came across this forum while looking for information on creating a pattern of my church (I'm a pastor). I don't trust myself, so I was looking for tutorials. I've attached a few of my more recent projects.

    Willie Revisited

I have scrolled a lot of Charles Dearing patterns recently. Charles writes that he gets requests to simplify his patterns. I like his more detailed works. He has a simplified Willie Nelson pattern that, though I liked, I found it too simple. So, after I finished it, I randomly drilled a bunch more holes Willy-Nilly, and just free formed my way to a bit fuller finished product. As I often do, I reduced the size down to 9 1/2”x 6 1/2.” I’m pretty happy with how it turn out.

  7. Great looking work Dick. Each will love and appreciate their gift. Terry and I both work in the garage so we spend most of the day together, very rare that we are apart. Marg

  8. We do cherish all of our time together.. We first met when my wife was only 12 years old. We started going together in high school and have been continually in love since 1957. Not a lot of life left for us so we cherish want ever God will give us. Dick heppnerguy

  9. You want embarrassing moment? Ok, I was working as a maint mechanic at a small production facility and took over a repair started by someone else. I should add this was in the days before lockout/tagout. I finished the small repair, turned the breaker back on and nothing. I checked a few things and decided it might need the electrician. He came down, took a quick look and then just plugged the machine into the outlet on the breaker box. Took awhile to live that one down.

  14. I agree Rolf I find the additional control provided by the footswitch to be invaluable when cutting delicate fretwork. I scrolled for the first few years without one, never realizing what I was missing. I was initially skeptical and it took a little while to get used to using one. Now you would have to fight me to get me to give it up.

  15. Kevin To solve that problem on my Hawk I plug the foot switch into power the other end is connected to a small outlet strip that has my saw, and vacuum and hour meter plugged into it. For the EX I plug the foot switch into the outlet on my Festool vac. The EX seems to draw more current and activates the vacuum, the Hawk does not trigger the vac automatically? Getting back to the original ? of how many use a HF foot switch. I don't, but They are probably fine, not much to go wrong. Most of the foot switches have a simple micro switch as the active component. I have been using the same one for 15 years. I also prefer being in total control of my work by using two hands. To have to reach down to turn my Hawk on and off or up for the EX, would be very annoying and I feel asking for trouble especially when doing delicate fretwork. JMO

    son-in law's Jeep

He loves his jeep and has a lot of fun with it, but at the same time, makes sure it is drive-able for the return trip home. He tries to take good care of it. Not sure if that is a good Jeep guy or not Dick heppnerguy

    Thank you

  32. Thank you Marg, They are all scrolled.. The one with a base on it is a smaller clock so I had to shrink the text down quite a lot and the details are someone lost in it etc.. plus the angle of the picture makes it looked carved.. If I ever make it again I'd probably size it up some to show the details better..

    Cthulhu Game Box

Since the subject of my project can't be classified as a "Spring" project I felt this would be the better place to show my latest project. It's a game box for my eldest son and daughter-in-law who enjoy role playing games, and really enjoy H.P. Lovecraft. So, the next time we are in Denver (we're in Arizona), we'll surprise them with this Cthulhu Game Box. It measures 9" side-to-side, 10" front-to-back, and 6.5" top-to-bottom. The main image on the lid is inset and detailed with wood burning, and the various icons around the box are heat transferred.

    How I spent my weekend

yes of course you can use it once I find it, but it could take awhile...I think I saw one in my plastic canvas books...if it is all we will have to do is enlarge it and cut it out...and im looking through my wood magazines to...if I don't find it in those mags i'll check my sewing patterns...if its in the sewing mag its the same thing just enlarge it and trace it onto the wood....and if you find one before me would you share it with me...like I said I have over 30 years of different kinds of patterns to go though from different materals...lol

  43. Drying time will vary considerably depending upon your humidity and temps.. Coming from someone who has worked with automotive finishing for several years.. Higher humidity can nearly double the full cure times..and in some cases.. triple the times.. JFYI

  46. They've been having some issues like this for the last couple years.. and this time of year they are harvesting ( farmers also ) so it might be really tough to get through to them.. as far as I know they are in business still.. Odd though someone posted just a few weeks ago that they had called and left a message and they got a call back in just a few hours.. They have always been slow or completely ignored the email system so that is certainly probably a waist of time trying that way.. Sure be nice if they'd hire some customer service help.. they sure lack on that side of the business, LOL Keep trying is all I can say.. OH, it's been said they are best to catch first thing in the morning too I believe.. Good luck.. They are awesome saws... until parts or service are needed..

    compound cuts

I cut a lot of 1.5-inch stock, mostly pine, poplar, and oak, with a bit of mystery wood from time to time. I use a #5 skip tooth most of the time. Slow is the name of the game. It took me a while to get this under control and only put enough pressure on the blade to keep it in contact with the wood and let the blade cut and clear out the sawdust. When I come to a corner, I stop for a second or two before making the turn to let the blade catch up.

  50. Momentary. When that blade breaks and scares the bejeebers out of you, the last thing you want to do is start looking for your switch to shut it off. Just my opinion.
